On this day in 1876, #stl city residents voted to secede from the county. This terribly short-sighted decision has plagued our region for 150 years.

Where to drink wine in St. Louis this summer
Hilltop vineyards, historic cellars, Italian wine programs and sunlit patio pours set the scene for a Missouri wine escape where slow sips meet elevated views. AUGUSTA WINERY Located in the Augusta American Viticultural Area (AVA), the first AVA …

Make STL Cringe Again:

So, we have the continuing saga of trying to get my Bolt repaired in #STL First dealership's service department is beyond dumb, they shouldn't be allowed to touch tools let alone repair cars, and the current one? 1030 appointment Tuesday, as of yesterday afternoon, they haven't even gotten to looking at it.
Yeah, I'm so done with this, not only won't I recommend a Bolt to anyone any more, I wouldn't recommend a Chevy, because you're just screwed if'n the car needs anything.

Went to see the Roman Art in the Time of Trajan exhibit at the fabulous St Louis Art Museum but came away just as impressed by the monumental Anselm Kiefer installation in the entry hall. Magnificent!

Meh, today's been interesting. As usual I woke up around 0230 to use the bathroom, and checked Amazon Flex to see if'n anything good was on the board, especially as I won't be working the next few days, maybe the rest of the week.
3½ hours for $112? Sure, we can do that…
Oh yeah, that went well, pick up in St Peters, MO, 31 packages, 31 stops, most deliveries are in eastern Wentzville, but the last 8 or so are spread from Foristell to Jonesburg¡¡ Jonesburg is 25 miles away from Wentzville. Yeah, that ran long obviously, just for the route, plus I had a random extra package that was easier to deliver than take back, so I got it added and did that, and now I have to see if'n they'll bump my pay up, I've put in a request, but…
And after that, we grabbed breakfast from Sunrise Ranch, great food over there, highly recommended if'n you're out in the Wentzville area, then went and picked up a delivery from Walmart on the way to my chiropractor…
Annnnd, that went pear shaped, I picked up a 65 inch TV, with a Chevy Bolt. Yeah, had to move the seats forward until my stomach was nearly touching the steering wheel, maybe that wasn't such a good idea.Chiro, coffee from Bread Co, and then home. Reading and a nap, and now here. Holos.social seems to be behaving today, none of the problems I had yesterday, so that's good. I will give it points for one thing it does better than Wafrn (•pokes• @gabboman ), Diaspora boosts display properly there, unlike this place. I am curious about where my account lives there, it was always said that it lives on your device, the relay just works to keep you connected to the Fediverse, I guess reminiscent of early mobile web browsers, but right now I'm only running it on my desktop, so where's my data?
Tomorrow, car goes to a different dealer, hopefully this one knows how to repair cars, if'n you live in the STL area, stay far, far away from Lou Fusz Chevy, they shouldn't be allowed to look at tools, let alone use them. I will type up a list of what I need this time to help, gotta look up the TSB's that are involved. I was going to bicycle home, stopping at a new diner on the way, but I've done breakfast out two days in a row, so definitely passing on breakfast, and based on the forecast, prolly going to spend on an Uber instead of bicycling the 11 miles.

We just had an excellent meal at The Corner Pub in West County. The owner's daughter has celiac so they offer a full gluten free menu. It's the one restaurant Melissa can eat fish and chips or breaded options and not have to worry. They of course have a full regular menu as well.
I guess this is more for the Missouri crowd but if you're in the area from out of town it's worth checking out as well.

Early voted today in #Missouri! Monday is the last day for early voting and then polls are open 6 a.m. - 7 p.m. on August 4 (Election Day). I saw one turnout prediction of just under 30% which, given some of the crucial issues on the ballot, means we have some work to do on that participatory democracy thing.
In the meantime, it means that every vote is extra important! If you haven't voted, please vote and vote NO on Amendment 4 (which would make it virtually impossible to pass citizen ballot initiatives, while exempting the measures legislators put on the ballot from the same stringent requirements)
and vote NO on Amendment 5, which replaces the state income tax with higher sales taxes and new taxes on services. Most of us would pay *more* in taxes so the rich can pay less!

I'm not sure why they don't detain some kids and start ticketing their parents heavily. After a while maybe the parents will start parenting? If my kid was doing this take over and beat people up crap, she'd be grounded until 18.

For #Missouri's State Senate District #4 (covering much of St. Louis). Incumbent Karla May is not running due to term limits.
Steve #Butz's record on #abortion rights is not only concerning, it is down right disastrous. (Pro reproductive rights group) Abortion Action Missouri has even set up a page showing Butz's track record in supporting abortion bans. Gina Mitten has a strong record supporting women's health access, including access to abortion.

For #StL folks and #cinephiles:
Cinema St. Louis is a terrific organization that, in addition to putting on the St. Louis International #Film Festival, has smaller festivals supporting LGBTQIA+ artists and local artists.
More recently, it stepped in to save the Hi-Pointe movie theater from closing and has kept it a wonderful destination for independent films. They had already planned on making extensive repairs to the historic building, but last year's tornado made that project more urgent and expensive.
They've tapped into their reserves, used insurance money, and obtained some private gifts, but are still just over $90,000 short of what they need to get everything (especially the HVAC) in working order.
Two anonymous donors have offered to match all gifts made by July 31, so if you would like to DOUBLE the impact of your gift and help a great #StLouis institution please follow the link below to find out more and donate.

I recommend prospective users to read the FAQ. It comes with a lot of gotchas.
It’s really a digital version of the OPUS cards, with the same constraints.

Je suggère que les usagers potentiels lisent la FAQ. Elle vient avec beaucoup de bémols.C’est vraiment une version numérique des cartes OPUS, avec les mêmes contraintes.

So to compare...
Morning commute:
68 minutes with a car vs 73 minutes without one
And I get time to pick up a coffeeEvening commute
70.5 minutes vs 92 minutesNot only it's faster and far less stressful, but also more consistent.
I really wish I had better choices. -

Well, now I know what happened to that bus.
It’s running at least 15 minutes early 😅 I saw it this morning

I complain quite a bit about public transportation in Montréal.
Not because I want to, but because it can be *so much* better.
It’s not normal that a 30km commute in Montréal takes 2 hours avg. when the same distance in Ottawa takes 90min, or you could do 50km in Vancouver

Time to leave… seriously, this morning’s commute was a sign of how my day would unfold.
Am I making the train that left the Lucien-l’Allier station 40 minutes ago? Hell no.
So, I already have a 1 hour commute.
