#Labor whether Feds or State (with exception ACT) is as doomed as LNP if it keeps occupying Center-right politics. So, yes, what's are the alternatives. I'd say small L #independents and More savvy #Greens but they're a long way to go. Hence get used to what we've got because LNP+PHON isn't going to get us anywhere but down the gurgler.Apologies for butting-in to the conversation, I can't help myself where politics are concerned -- tragic... yes I know.

Australia (South Australia): The Liberals (Centre-right) had their worst result at the 2026 state election, while Labor (Centre-left) won its highest proportion of seats ever. One Nation (Right) won its first lower house seats in the state.

#SApol #Auspol interesting that the current SA Labor govt is less socially liberal than its precedlng Liberal govt, but Alex Antic's Liberals are more conservative on things like abortion, voluntary assisted dying etc than Hanson's One Nation Party.
South Australia that created Family First in the 2000s now has 3 similar parties: Liberal, Family First & Australian Families.
PHON is more a Divorced White Men First party. -

#sapol If so many Liberal voters think that Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party is their best alternative, then surely someone in the party machinery must be able to work out that their policy framework has been drifting in the totally wrong direction. The few Liberal voters left must surely want the party to reclaim the centre, not expand into the far right.

Sure. But one seat off 20% of first preferences statewide still means you're irrelevant. The problem here is with conservatism. It is not fit for purpose.

Another example of this propaganda from Seven News Australia:
#Auspol #SAPol #SAVotesLabor won over 45 seats (24 needed to win) and they absolutely demolished the Liberals who have won fewer than 10.
One Nation (Australian MAGA) might be in with a chance for one, maybe two seats.
Seven News ran this story promoting One Nation as some incredible accomplishment from Pauline Hanson with a banner throughout celebrating that an “ORANGE TSUNAMI STRIKES”
America has taught them well.

Murdoch media have their eyes on the next federal election. This is what continuous campaigning looks like. Murdoch is destroying the LNP and will pour more money into promoting One Nation than any other party in Australia could possibly afford. This is how fascism takes hold in Australia. -

It’s difficult to articulate the devastation of the Liberal Party in South Australia tonight.
I mean, how do they think they’re going to form a shadow cabinet with 4-5 seats?

Across the state, people have rejected the two usual parties. Make no mistake, Labor have won in a landslide, but they can’t ignore the fact that their vote across the state has fallen by one and a half points. And loyal members of the Liberal and National Parties must be feeling pretty irrelevant right now, with the Libs down by a massive 17 points!
One Nation has picked up almost nineteen points while the Greens gained about the one and a half points that Labor lost.
These numbers are a bit concerning given how they may translate in the next federal election, with the prospect of more One Nation Senators in the Upper House.
Given the support for, and airtime given to, One Nation by the Murdoch media, the increase in their vote probably shouldn’t come as a surprise. Pro-One Nation media has been all over Meta social media, usually promoted by News.com.au, and commercial television networks, Seven, Nine, and Ten.
Despite the huge swing to One Nation, it would seem that they accomplished this by taking the vote from the Liberals, possibly helped by the defections of the likes of Cory Bernardi, James Ashby, and Barnaby Joyce, who are all big names in Australian right-wing politics.
I’m still pleased by how devastated the Liberal and National Parties have become, though a little apprehensive about a Labor government that has every chance to do great things, but will probably continue to be Liberal Lite.
There is some hope!

The South Australia Election 2026 is all over bar the shouting. As predicted, it's a landslide for Labor. The Liberal Party in South Australia are charmless, ineffective, and lacking in leadership, so it's fitting that people are making comparisons with their performance in state elections in Western Australia and Victoria.
Humble brag and a shout-out of appreciation for the Electoral Commission of South Australia (ECSA) and Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) for running the election process so smoothly and quickly. It's wonderful to see a result take shape in as little as an hour or two after voting centres close, and I feel they're independent and impartial; this situation is quite unlike some other countries that claim to be a democracy.

Counting is underway for the South Australia State Election 2026.
Gotta say, I'm relieved to see One Nation is yet to score a seat yet based on primary votes counted so far. That said, it's still quite possible they'll score some seats based on run-off from preferential votes.

Australia (South Australia): Polls are closed in the First Nations Voice election. While state results flow in tonight, the Electoral Commission will count the Voice election results on March 30; 64 candidates are vying for 46 seats.

Will wait here till SA's new Green premier is announced.

State Election in South Australia today!
If you live in South Australia, be sure to vote with a conscience, and get yourself a Democracy Sausage.
Bin Chicken Psephology Polling predicts:
- ALP will phone it in. They're taking it for granted they'll win with a reduced but still comfortable majority. The party have their head in the sand, but will hype it as "Steady as she goes."
- One Nation will steal anything not nailed-down, and grab practically all Coalition seats and marginal Labor seats. They're on track to become the most noisome, extreme-right neo-nazi state or federal Opposition party seen living memory (which, I have to declare, is saying something when you consider Queensland in the late 1960s to the late 1980s, or the recent run by Peter Dutton). It's going to throw the historically left-leaning SA into shock, and present a threat for all state and federal elections in Australia for at least the next 5-10 years, or however long it takes for global Trumpism to crumble. Pauline Hanson will be insufferable the entire time.
- Liberal Party and National Party will, in the slurred words of one poll respondent, "Receive an absolute shellacking."
