A federal jury convicted Justin Lee Plunk, 39, of Corinth, Mississippi, of conspiring to distribute and distributing child sexual abuse material through Instagram and Telegram.

The conspiracy operated from at least 2021 through 2024 and recruited minor girls, including children as young as 10, to create packages of abusive images and videos and participate in live video calls with paying customers.The operation used Instagram, Snapchat and Telegram. One victim was introduced to the conspiracy through Roblox.

Customers paid through Cash App, Venmo, Walmart gift cards and Roblox gift cards.Investigators connected Plunk to more than $57,000 in proceeds received through cash transfers and gift cards.

Plunk was previously convicted in Mississippi in 2016 of enticing a child for sexual purposes.He faces up to 40 years in federal prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on January 26, 2027.

Au mois de juillet 2026, la loi Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), surnommée « Chat Control » par ses détracteurs, a été reconduite dans sa version 1.0.
Il s'agit en réalité de prolonger jusqu'en avril 2028, une loi temporaire déjà adoptée en 2021 et qui expirait en avril 2026.
Avec pour objectif de lutter contre les abus sexuels sur les enfants, cette loi autorise le scan volontaire des messages non chiffrés (Gmail, Outlook, Discord, Snapchat, Facebook). Les services chiffrés de bout en bout (Signal, WhatsApp, iMessage) sont exclus de ce scan volontaire.
Les plateformes concernées peuvent donc scanner les messages, photos et vidéos privées à la recherche de contenus pédocriminels, sans mandat judiciaire ni ciblage préalable.
Le problème de cette loi est qu'elle permet la mise en place d'un système de surveillance de masse généralisée et s'oppose directement au principe du respect de la vie privée pourtant protégée par les lois Françaises et Européennes.
Cette loi s'oppose donc aux lois suivantes :

- Article 9 du Code civil : le droit au respect de la vie privéeUnion Européenne
- Article 7 de la Charte des droits fondamentaux de l'Union européenne : Respect de la vie privée et familiale
- Article 8 de la Convention européenne des droits de l'homme : Droit au respect de la vie privée et familialeDroits de l'Homme
- Article 12 de la Charte des Nations Unies / La Déclaration universelle des droits de l'homme
=> Les Nations Unis se sont positionnées contre la surveillance de masse, contre le scan des conversations privées, et donc contre Chat Control, en octobre 2025.
