One fun feature I discovered running it for the last few hours is the ability to build furniture that hasn't been constructed yet. I just love this. It allows me to build all my bedrooms and then move on the next stuff and then it is slowly completed in the background. Such a nice quality of life feature.
You are also able to build engrave slabs and filter them when placing them, removing the struggle of placing the correct one.
I now see what you mean how it just adds to the game. But I can also see I've barely touched the surface of it.
It is really nice that the UI follows the style of the game and it feels as if it is actually part of the game and not a mod!

I think it is because you have so much more and they aren't easily selectable. With #Rimworld, you often select and control a single pawn where you don't do this at all in #Dwarffortress. So I think it is mostly due to me still transitioning between the two games.
I recently played way too much Rimworld, clocked like 200 hours in a few weeks, so I am taking a break noe and feel it it a perfect time to get into Dwarffortress.

I actually don't experience this because, for me in #Dwarffortress, my dwarves are basically an afterthought. I don't have a personal relationship and connection to everyone, like I would have in #Rimworld. But that is simply due to how the game works.
That's why I also struggle to get into the lore and story because I never click on individual characters.

I found this now by #BlindIRL on #Youtube. It is a long playlist of many short videos explaining the simple things that you need to understand before you can start doing the more complex things:

That's great, so the installation is now very easy, and it will just magically work!
-
Hahha! The student becomes the master! Yeah, it is the more complex mechanics, sometimes resulting in simpler stuff not working correctly.
-
If I don't have that, then my Bookkeeper is probably not working correctly?

Yeah, but if you want to set up a work-order to make 10 doors at all times and you want the same material to be used, you must first leave the screen and go check out your stockpile to see what you have.
The UI should show what each door will look like night to its name in the work order screen and also show whether you actually have the material available.
-
Yeah, getting into the actual role-playing aspect of it is very difficult. With #Rimwolrd and #Dwarffortress, I just started a game without much thought. Where other players make active choices that will change and impact their game both positively and negatively. I just can't get into that play style. Might try it again once I have a better understanding of the game.

Also having coffers and chests. Besically the same thing, why do we have one thing with 2 different names? Like rock jug and wooden mug? Infeel some of the items are named differently simply due to the material that they are made of, which is very confusing to new players.
-
One thing that is, however, frsutrating me, coming from #Rimworld to #Dwarffortress is the sheer amount of materials.
I just want to make 10 doors. With Rimworld, I can immediately just place 10 wooden doors. With Dwarffortress, I first need to make them in a workshop.
To ensure that the doors all look the same, I need to change the work order to use the same wood. But the UI doesn't show what I actually have available.

I am really excited about this game. I played #Payday2 since day one and own all of the DLC content. I played hundreds of hours with my #Steam friends, and in the end, its downfall was the stupid stealth system with pagers, where only 3 could be disabled.
If the stealth system is redesigned and levels might become more flexible and dynamic, I think this will be another great success for the studio!

The developers #Mera bought or hired used their experience and not trade-secrets. #Musk is going on as if #Twitter is some type of revolutionary technology he designed and built from the ground up.
Most developers can build a #Twitter clone in a few hours. It is the scaling and infrastructure that needs advance knowledge and experience.
This again just proves he really doesn't know anything of software development and how things work.

Of all the services out there, #Facebook and #Instagram are the services people leave the easiest. Even #Whastapp has been replaced by #Telegram and #Signal.
It's #Twitter and #Youtube that people seem to just not be able to ditch them. Because they simply don't have an aternative.
Youtube isban entirely differentbtopic, but one thing people miss about Twitter is the sheer amount of people to react to or will interact with their content. That's why, when #Mastodon was still small, it was deemed a failure.
#Threads has the conversion rate of #Meta and the features of Twitter. So they just might be able to do it.
The only downside I see is that it isn't as pseudononymous as people like from their micro-blogginf sites due to Meta wanting to connect your real name and other connectoins to your profiles.

#Gadot 4.1 is out and looking great. I really want to start playing arpund with it and ise it for possible simulations. I've long wanted to replace #Processing, and I think this is a great candidate.

I made the #Windows transition to #Linux and took the #Ububtu route. My experience has been positive, with the greatest drawback being game support on #Steam.
Otherwise, it feels less bloated. Everything I use is on my taskbaar, and I never open the start menu. If I need to, it is sleek and clean.
I also just like the look and various tools that we can download.
With the opecomibg #POPos update coming out, I am currently creating a live boot disk to see what it is like, and then I might make the switch from Ubuntu to Popos.#Windows #Windows10 #Windows11 #Microsoft #Linux #Ubuntu #System76 #POPop #DIY #selfhosting #homebrew

I think it is all due to the "Stae of #opensource in #3dprinting" by Josef #Prusa that led to this.
We have 3 routes we can take now. #Closedsource #Bambu printers, semi-open #Creality (which is just a copy of everything out their basically), and #Opensource #Voron.
I am disappointed in Creality just becoming copy-cats and also releasing stupid stuff like the Creality #SonicPad and locking it up as much as the #FLSun 400 controller.
But companies like #AnyCubic aren't even trying to copy #Prusa. They are just cntrl+f'ing them by now.

My first idea is to combine it with #Fullcontrol for custom designs

I'll check #PythonSDF out. Honestly, I've never heard of it before you mentioned it. It is my best language so I think I would be able to have fun with it. Thanks!

I also still need to mount the sensor you see hanging there. That is my enclosure temperature sensor, and the #HoneycombStorageWall replaced its original mount. But I am still working on a design.

@thinkyhead @layers @marlinfirmware
I agree, but one thing to note is, #Marlin is big, and you are big. You have a say and some power behind your voice, but smaller #FOSS developers still suffer.
One thing that disgusts me is 3D printing companies just actually doing this.
In the popular series "Blue Bloods", Frank Regan said that it is so disgusting when a cop commits a crime, because cops should not be kept at the same standard as other people, but at a higher standard.
Now we have companies coming in here. Like #SnapMaker, saying they love #opensource and they want you to create what you want at home and I would put money on it that would attempt a rip-off of #Printables or #Thingiverse in the future for "open-source", but then they do stuff like this.
I honestly didn't know this about them. I was actually interested in buying their #IDEX printer.

I just tried #OrcaSlicer for the first time, I've just not had time to test it until now.
Because it was based on #PrusaSlicer, #SuperSlicer, and #Slic3r, I hoped that I could just import my PrusaSlicer config, but could not because it expected a .json file and PrusaSlicer outputs a .ini, but I might have done this incorrectly.
So I configure a "Generic Klipper setup" and copied the values by hand by comparing settings with my PrusaSlicer setup and a bit of experience and intuition.
My first resulting print, a custim part by me compared to the PrusaSlicer, was worlds apart. The finish was greatly improved with bridges requiring no supports, however it did print a bit slower, 28 minutes instead of 18 minutes, but this might still just be speed settings.
I like the UI, although I am more used to PrusaSlicer, and I especially love that I can access #Mainsail and #Klipper from within the app.

Do you mean you use the line itself? Interesting...
But if you want to use it as a filament, you need to dry it properly. #CNCKitchen did a video on it.
