  3. Small weekend #3dPrinting #diy #maker project: adding corner protectors for my solar panel so I can take it camping. Whipped up the design using #FreeCAD then sliced it with #PrusaSlicer and printed it. It was a tight fit as I didn't leave enough clearance, but gently heating the printed part up with a flame torch and then sliding it into place worked well.

  5. To print something onto a disc, I then place the disc onto the print bed and secure it in the center with a piece of tape. To prepare the gcode for the print job, I use #Inkscape, #OpenSCAD & #PrusaSlicer. I first create the label in Inkscape. All text needs to be converted to paths, so OpenSCAD uderstands it. I then load the exported SVG into OpenSCAD and extrude it slightly with linear_extrude, so it is exactly the height of a printing layer. The result is then sliced and sent to the printer.

  9. The name plate was designed in #FreeCAD¹, sliced in #PrusaSlicer¹, and printed on my custom-built 3D printer. Its parts were designed and shared by @bear_lab and runs on #MarlinFW.

The leatherette was designed in #Inkscape, the G-code generated with #KiriMoto, and cut with a custom little #vinylCutter attachment for the 3D printer².

  11. Today I decided I'd see if I can use #PrusaSlicer on my ancient #FlashForge Creator Pro. Got the hacks installed so it can spit out .x3g. Did a simple print of some action figure and it worked (but can't get supports off). Decide to try real model. Need to orient part face down. But it rotates all wonky. And rotation fields are all zero! Enter new rotation and it moves then zeros out the fields! #3DPrinting

  13. @brett I use SpaceMouse Wireless and it is great for both 2D and 3D navigation in #Fusion360, #SolidEdge, #OnShape, #PrusaSlicer, etc. It took me a couple of days to get used to it, of course. I like rotating the model and looking at it from all sides and angles, zooming in and out to check some corners, filets, etc.

Can you go without one? Yes, but it makes using these tools flawless and easier vs. with regular mouse. It works in many other apps, too, but its main strength is 3D navigation.

  15. After my move from macos to #linux I was stuck in #prusaslicer. Was not able to find out how to pan the view with a touchpad.

I wonder how other people handle this, cannot imagine that all linux users always have a mouse with them. 😳

  19. What's up with #PrusaSlicer's algorithm seeing this very long, thin object and thinking "yeah… let's make those bridges as long as possible"? This makes absolutely no sense.

  21. Hilbert Curve surface finish with a round of ironing afterwards makes for a quite good surface finish even with just 0.3mm and 15% infill.

  23. Sometimes you've just to try things. Like I wanted to know what the "ironing" setting in #PrusaSlicer does. So I just tried it. And well I'm glad I only read the documentation AFTER I sent it to the printer, as otherwise I probably wouldn't even have tried to use it together with just 30% infill as the documentation says it is for 100%.

However it appears to turn out surprisingly well so far. So lets keep it running and check again.

  27. I’m about to do my first 3D prints, what’s the best #slicer for Linux? I’ve heard of #PrusaSlicer (C++/WxWidgets) and #Ultimaker #Cura (Python/QML), do you have any recommendation?

(If there was an official Linux release, I’d start with PrusaSlicer by default, but I’m wondering if it’s worth the trouble to build it from source as it relies on an unstable version of WxWidgets…)

  29. I've been making an effort to use #freecad more. This week has been using the #gridfinity workbench to make some socket organizers. #printables is full of them, but it's quick and easy enough to draw up exactly what I need quickly and drop it into #prusaslicer and send it to my #Prusa XL.

FreeCAD has come a long way in a short time and the roadmap for 1.1 looks like it hasn't lost any momentum.

    Danke @2nd_moon

  32. Meh, #PrusaSlicer *also* doesn't know the difference between an outer or an inner bridge (inner = the first layer of a top wall).

I might just move over to #OrcaSlicer. PrusaSlicer seemed way better than Cura, but Orca apparently is the most advanced right now.

  34. I've stumbled over this and are trying to improve the bridges on my printers, so far though without success. :/
    printables.com/model/1475259-3

If I raise the bridge flow too much everything just hangs through. The individual strings simply do not attach to each other. There's no feature to extrusion width of bridges thinner in #PrusaSlicer (the only extrusion width setting that's missing, actually). Meh.

  36. I have a VERY odd issue with #PrusaSlicer on my #Framework16: I can open it and rotate the viewport and everything, but as soon as I load a STL I can no longer navigate with my mouse or move the object around. Generally it seems the window is only very selectively updating. I have absolutely NO idea what's going on here, googling for prusa hanging yields no meaningful insight. Anybody here has a suggestion for me?

  38. If you have an 3D printer, you can use it as a 2D plotter with some simple slicer tricks: Here is a tutorial using #prusaslicer and an old #prusa MK3S

Der hat out of the box damals funktioniert und überzeugt einfach. #Creality #CR6SE #3DDrucker #3dprinting
