  1. Today I decided I'd see if I can use #PrusaSlicer on my ancient #FlashForge Creator Pro. Got the hacks installed so it can spit out .x3g. Did a simple print of some action figure and it worked (but can't get supports off). Decide to try real model. Need to orient part face down. But it rotates all wonky. And rotation fields are all zero! Enter new rotation and it moves then zeros out the fields! #3DPrinting

  2. @brett I use SpaceMouse Wireless and it is great for both 2D and 3D navigation in #Fusion360, #SolidEdge, #OnShape, #PrusaSlicer, etc. It took me a couple of days to get used to it, of course. I like rotating the model and looking at it from all sides and angles, zooming in and out to check some corners, filets, etc.

    Can you go without one? Yes, but it makes using these tools flawless and easier vs. with regular mouse. It works in many other apps, too, but its main strength is 3D navigation.

  3. Endlich mal wieder ein größeres #Projekt abgeschlossen. Aus über 30 Einzelteile ist dieser X-Wing aus #StarWars zusammengesetzt. Gut 40 cm lang und 30 cm breit. Die Flügel lassen sich aufklappen.
    Der Druck der Teile hat die letzten 3 Wochen über mehrere Tage gedauert.

    Nächstes Projekt: der Tie-Fighter 😉

  9. I’m about to do my first 3D prints, what’s the best #slicer for Linux? I’ve heard of #PrusaSlicer (C++/WxWidgets) and #Ultimaker #Cura (Python/QML), do you have any recommendation?

    (If there was an official Linux release, I’d start with PrusaSlicer by default, but I’m wondering if it’s worth the trouble to build it from source as it relies on an unstable version of WxWidgets…)

  10. Die dunkle und kalte Jahreszeit nutze ich um ein paar kleine Projekte am #3DDruck zu drucken.
    Aktuell ein Modell einer Sojuz-Kapsel. Gestern kam dann irgendwie nur Schrott raus. Stellt sich heraus: Extruder-Arm gebrochen. Kumpel hat mit heute ein Ersatzteil gedruckt und schon läuft die Kiste wieder. Auch nach 6 Jahren noch immer top.

  11. Meh, #PrusaSlicer *also* doesn't know the difference between an outer or an inner bridge (inner = the first layer of a top wall).

    I might just move over to #OrcaSlicer. PrusaSlicer seemed way better than Cura, but Orca apparently is the most advanced right now.

  12. @kbob @chrishuck @poleguy @neuron @hwang @wow_elec_tron I got the small Bluetooth 3D Connexion #SpaceMouse as a birthday gift and I like it very much. I’m using it with #Fusion, #SolidEdge and #PrusaSlicer on Windows. I chose the small one since I don’t like the footprint of the bigger ones and since it can use Bluetooth, a dongle and USB C cable (the dongle and the cable are included in the box).

  13. @jonathankoren Interesting! I use a 0.6mm CHT (high flow) nozzle on a with and pretty much all seams are too *thick*, which makes tolerances ultra hard to get right. It feels like larger nozzles aren't yet tuned all that well in the slicers...

    EDIT: scarf seams are also rather thick and ugly where they start and end.

    Is there an option to tweak the seam "thickness" manually? 🤔 I didn't find any.

    Having multiple extruders can help you make use of old/bad filament elegantly: filament that you would not use otherwise often may still be used for infill.
    That way, it still serves a purpose but you don't need to worry about bad bed adhesion or ugly surface artifacts. In #PrusaSlicer, just set the "infill extruder" in "print settings / multiple extruders" to whatever filament you want to use for that. Do not change the "massive infill" extruder setting; otherwise your top/bottom surfaces will also be printed with the "infill" filament.

  17. Tested PrusaSlicer 2.7.2-alpha2 on my Prusa XL, using PETG and the 0.32mm Speed profile. Happy to report most blobs along seams vanished!

    Seems like bottom layer issues also got smoothed out, hinting at a ramping algorithm tweak rather than over extrusion.

    The OK seam is due manual placement on the inner and outer, 20mm apart. Long travel paths for the print head, still result in holes along the seams.

  20. Well, I believe that organic tree support in Prusa Slicer is not a panacea. I have no idea how to retrieve them without breaking the 28mm PLA miniature. Any support settings recommandation? Printed with 0.25mm nozzle, 0.07 mm layer height. Resin miniature on the right for comparison. #3dprint #prusaslicer #prusa #mk3

  21. Gedruckt habe ich auch mal wieder etwas. Diesmal ein Spiel für die Kinder. Nennt sich "Rush Hour" und ist ein Knobelspiel. Ziel ist es das rote eingeparkte Auto durch Verschieben der anderen Auto auszuparken.

  22. @orangeacme I could not find any specifics on print speed other than the 500 mm/s in the datasheet, in videos they are printing way slower, so I guess it's the max travel speed.

    I set up a printer in Prusa Slicer, multiplied the speeds and extrusion widths.

    Using 0.3 mm layer height (seen in some videos) it would take around 16 days.

    Using 1.3 mm layer height (maximum from specs) it'd take only about 3 days.

    That's still a lot!
