📢 #LiveStream - #DwarfFortress: The Eternal Plane
We've got a pretty solid start with our first migration wave, but we are still waiting for the first caravan to arrive. Since we're in tundra, we'll likely need an import agreement for wood to make sure we are well stocked. We plan on moving to the first cave layer as soon as possible but this will take a bit of time.

📢 #LiveStream - #DwarfFortress: The Eternal Plane
The Saturday Sneaky Stream continues. We're setting up in a tundra embark and will equip ourselves for a cave embark. We'll need plenty of materials and protect ourselves from the cave alligators and troglodytes. It's time to strike the earth!

The feeling of having missed out on a Dwarf Fortress autograph session just now pains me deeply.
Sure I didn’t know it existed two hours ago but grahghgghhhhjhhh

This fort is too stable. I need a new massive building project to kick off. I made a huge library that’s mostly empty. My upper fort is fully enclosed and loaded with bolt throwers. (I guess I could see about making some bigger siege weapons …)
Not that we’ve been attacked. But I sent some raiders to a nearby goblin fort and stole some items from them.
I’ve never had a fort running this smoothly. I guess I could try to figure out a way to make “indoor” above ground farms.

Due to a bug one of my dwarves created a massive tapestry. The full description was 6,423 words. It described 241 images covering 58 unique events.
Because I’m a madman, I put it in a Google document. The second tab has the unabridged description.
He really likes Agesperishes, the goblin-cap bracelet.
The game started in the year 500.
Enjoy.

I foolishly told my dwarves to remove two floor grates so I could install more wells. I didn’t realize that a pair of them would decide the best place to stand would be on the other grate. So the dwarf that finished first yanked the grate out from under the second dwarf sending him plummeting to his watery doom.
The grates were supposed to prevent that kind of accident!
At least my deep well is finished.

Been playing way too much. But I have my most successful fort ever. Admittedly I turned of lycanthropy. Just no fun. And the fort I reclaimed seems to be in a very civilized area, so no goblin sieges yet. But it’s a county now so our fame is spreading.
I am nearly converted to a purely underground fort. Just need to finish putting the roof on the upper walkway.

But there are ways to manage the menace of nobility (in Dwarf Fortress, of course) —like simply walling them off in an unpleasant corner and letting the rest of society live and labor as need, preference, urgency, and capacity allow. In an interview with PC Gamer at Gamescom, Dwarf Fortress co-creator Tarn Adams said there's probably something to be learned there.

[Veille 📣] Dwarf Fortress creator says the industry's in shambles over AI and layoff-happy CEOs: 'Everyone I know, their bosses are slowly getting psychosis' | PC Gamer

I'm more hyped about the coming "Myth & Magic" Update of Dwarf Fortress than GTA VI.
I'll expect lots of FUN¹ there

One of my blacksmiths had a strange mood and took over the magma forge. But despite butchering a few random animals to get him the leather he wanted, he went berserk. Being a strong and experienced fighter he murdered a dozen dwarves during his rampage. Most of the militia was in their new barracks training.
One of the victims was the peasant turned undertaker turned mayor, whose constant demand for boots contributed greatly to our leather shortage. New guy loved amulets.

But it seems like 90% of the citizens are either praying or socializing in the tavern.
I know it’s been rough, but maybe haul that body into the tomb we made for him so you stop complaining about having to see his dead body?
Hell, none of the adults wanted to put the coffins in place, so I watched the 6 year old do it.
But now they want a farmers guild hall. Come to think of it, besides the kitchen and still I need to setup the rest of the farm workshops.
So much to do.
-
My reclaimed fortress is going strong. My 3 dragon slayers were joined by a few brave migrants each season, and now we are 35 strong.
However, they are very slow to get any work done.
I walled off a section of the underground to do some farming and logging. I made a well to an underwater reservoir. I made a meager dorm while I turn mushroom logs into beds.

How could I forget to mention: a room full of cheese, which immediately became my food stores.
There were also some desks, I didn’t even know you could make desks in Dwarf Fortress.
-
Other weird things in this fort.
Magma forges perilously positioned to be flooded with magma.
Lots of bedrooms, no beds.
No trees. No surface water source.
Weird shrines to gods we don’t worship.
So many metal forges, not a single type of other workshop.
-
I gave up on my were infested fort. Even disabling the setting already infected npcs floating around they kept coming back.
But when I went to reclaim, I noticed that you can claim already existing ones, generated by the computer.
They are very weird. First off, very few stairs. The primary “stairs” are a large spiral of ramps going deeper and deeper within the earth.
But first I had to slay the older than history Dragon. Three of my initial seven dwarves survived.
-
Decided to turn off were attacks after this.
Reclaimed my fortress with a batch of dwarves. They cleared it out, but only two survived. Was watching them work when one of them decided to try butchering an animal. They accidentally cut themselves and their entrails fell out. They managed to crawl over to the hospital to die.
Leaving one last dwarf who socialized with ghosts until he died of fright.
Will try one more reclaim before I give up on this fort.
-
I had a nice little fortress going, with a population of 99 (mostly) dwarves. I recovered swiftly from the winter without water.
Then somehow a weremonitor [lizard] outbreak occurred. I abandoned the fort and sent a party to reclaim it. That went poorly. Two more tries and I think I’ve got it cleared of weres. Except for two trapped in barricaded rooms.
Turns out if you are going to a well stocked fort you can bring 7 marksdwarves in copper armor.
2 are left alive, now wait…
-
#DwarfFortress Fun Fact:
If all your dwarves die because you failed to get an underground water reserve but a bunch of non-dwarven citizens survive because they are poets who spent the winter drinking up all the booze in the tavern while your dwarves worked then even once you get dwarven migrants to arrive they won’t nominate a new expedition leader.
So you have to wait until you get population 50 so they will finally elect a mayor.
It’s really annoying not being able to make work orders.

Dwarf Fortress
lol. I was playing a bit on my solo fort. Was going well, 5 years without any goblin attacks.
Then I went from 99 dwarves to 99 ghouls in a matter of days.
I would keep going on this world, except I made it before the dinosaur update so I kind of want to try them next.
-
I’ve been playing in a long succession game of Dwarf Fortress. We lost one fortress and started a second one. New one has been going well, we’ve had several years without a goblin invasion.
After my last turn I decided to poke around and see what kind of art they’ve been making. Nothing too exciting in this fort history, a dog killed a troglodyte once.
But we have several statues of a key event in the downfall of our previous fortress.

The "adventure mode" fighting mechanics in #dwarffortress are so intimidating. It reminds me of #Gurps or #Degenesis mechanics 😅
