  1. Why is #OrcaSlicer asking me to sign into Orca Cloud on top of my Bambu account? I just wanted some extra #3DPrinting options on my X1, but Orca seems to be morphing into another behemoth. Can't wait for it to be bought out and ruined by Bambu or some other Large Corp with deep pockets.

  2. If you haven't checked out OrcaSlicer yet, it builds on Bambu Lab's slicer framework while keeping everything powerful and 100% open source. 🛠️

  3. A new OrcaSlicer fork with innovative solutions for printing in colors. It uses overhangs to hide a previous color and require a single tool change per layer, reducing time and waste.

YGK3D explains in detail how it works :

This fork is based on 2 research papers:
    - Overhangs modulation :

    - Color Contoning : cdfg.mit.edu/publications/colo

  4. Orca Slicer 2.4.0 was released couple of days ago and for me it was a very exciting release as it added Z contouring.

Benchy's roof is a good example of slightly angled flat surface where the layers become very apparent. Z contouring aims to minimize this effect by adjusting Z axis movement below the layer size in these spots. It's basically better version of dynamic layer size as it automatically targets the problem spots.

Here's Benchy's roof in 0.24 layers, first picture as is and second with the Z contouring enabled. The layers are still there, but look at what happens to the layer steps at the back. It's almost smooth now.

I'm very curious to see how this'll look printed and I'll follow up as soon as this prints.

If you want to try, get the Orca 2.4.0, turn the UI to expert and you'll find Z contouring in the Quality settings.

    Dazu kommt der Streisand-Effekt.

  8. One neat thing about moving to Orca Slicer from Snapmaker's own turd is finally being able to automate the enclosure exhaust fan. Since I can add custom G-codes to be run at start and end of using some specific filament, I can now have the fan auto start when ABS, ASA or anything else super stinky is being printed.

  9. Changed to #Orcaslicer for my Bambulab printer. Still hangs my laptop when starting up (like Bambustudio did), but everything else works great. Even the Device tab loads my printer immediately without having to manually load and camera looks less crappy.

  10. 🔁 Bits have been flipped. New episode out now.

    📻 Ep. 6 — Bambu-zled

Geoff sounds the alarm on Bambu Lab's legal threats against an open-source Orca Slicer developer, the crew unpacks the CopyFail and DirtyFrag Linux kernel CVEs and AI-accelerated vulnerability discovery, and Adam reports from an off-grid California compound to explore parallels between physical self-sufficiency and digital self-hosting.

  11. Può piacervi o meno Louis Rossman, ma è da riconoscere la sua serietà nel difendere il concetto di Open Source.

  12. @soc I don't blame the dev.
But if you want to see blood in the water, Rossmann has published the code to his own Github and is daring BambuLab to sue him over it.

Bambu printer owners can now use the full feature set again and also Bambu will likely be embarrassed in court for violating AGPL and other things should they try to go after Rossmann.

Is the @eff already aware of this, especially the AGPL violation?

  13. As always: support and protect open source projects! Don't allow corporations with an anti-consumer agenda like Bambu Lab to silence developers!

Also: vote with your wallet! Don't buy Bambu Lab products.

Their anti-consumer behavior is why I went for a different 3D printer.

  14. Realizing that they probably don't have any legal merit to stand on, BambuLab has resorted to a smear campaign on their blog. The dev is explaining why their claims are bogus here:

  15. Do you use orcaslicer for your 3D printer? A developer who made a fork of it is being attacked by Bambu Lab for using AGPL open source code!

Louis Rossmann pledged 10,000 USD to fight this. I chimed in as well. Drop a comment on the video if you would help!

  16. #bambulab macht schon wieder unfug.
