'Lewis takes up a debate with several Black feminists who have, at various times, questioned the idea of family abolition, whose central argument has been that, very often, Black families have been sites of resistance against racism. Similarly, we could point to many experiences of class struggle in which sectors of working families have played a key role against the attacks of capital: supporting strikes, establishing relations of solidarity between factories and neighborhoods, staging rent strikes, maintaining soup kitchens, creating movements in defense of public services, and many other forms of resistance. The tradition of “women’s commissions” in strikes, for example, has allowed the working class to articulate fighting forces far beyond the workplace.
'To this criticism Lewis responds that, even so, we should not cease working for the abolition of the family, since we would not need its “protective shield” if we managed to build a society without racism. The argument contains a grain of truth, but it stops halfway. It fails to contemplate the role that the family relations within sectors of the working class and oppressed can play in moments of heightened class struggle. On another level, it doesn’t account for the fact that capitalism, while it needs such a “social cell” for its own reproduction, constantly undermines working families’ very conditions of existence. Marx and Engels remarked on this in the mid-19th century, pointing to the length of the working day, the lack of decent housing, and the general precariousness of working class life.'

Hello #Fediverse, here’s today’s daily OS-tan!
This one is of Mutsumi Madobe, a lesser-known member of the Madobe family and a personification of Windows Vista! Mutsumi is portrayed as the older sister of Nanami Madobe who represents Windows 7, though her origins could be seen as quite unique compared to other OS-tans.
Mutsumi first appeared through tweets made from Nanami’s Twitter account beginning on October 3, 2009. While she was never officially used for promotional campaigns, she did show up in some Madobe Family Trees included with official merchandise. On special occasions like April Fool’s Day 2010, she “took over” tweeting duties, using the hashtag #6me.
Unlike Nanami she has no official artwork but on April 20, 2010 the artist Sappappa designed an unofficial interpretation of her based on her tweets. This fan-made depiction gained enough popularity to inspire derivative artwork.
Mutsumi’s design and character reflect her connection to Vista. She’s a little taller than Nanami and is often noted for her larger bust, perhaps showing Vista’s higher memory demands compared to Windows 7 (the same case with XP Pro-tan). She loves eating gyudon and prefers to skip outdated software in favor of new releases: a subtle nod to the compatibility struggles that Vista faced during its time.

ExxonMobil (XOM) saw its stock price jump 11.3% in March, driven largely by a sharp rise in crude oil prices. Global benchmark Brent crude surged 43% to nearly $104 per barrel, its best monthly gain since May 2020, while U.S. WTI crude climbed 51% over the same period. The price spike followed U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran, which disrupted oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz and damaged energy infrastructure, including LNG facilities in Qatar co-owned by Exxon and QatarEnergy.
Beyond higher oil prices, ExxonMobil benefited from strategic developments in March. The company expressed interest in returning to Venezuela under favorable terms, citing its improved expertise in heavy oil operations. Additionally, Exxon and QatarEnergy completed the first LNG train at their Golden Pass project in Texas, which will eventually produce 18 million tonnes per annum of LNG—timely given Iran’s disruption of Qatar’s LNG exports.
Despite the stock’s strong performance, ExxonMobil remains an attractive investment due to untapped upside. The company has underperformed relative to crude oil gains, suggesting further potential if prices stay elevated. Structural cost reductions and high-margin investments position Exxon to profit significantly in a high-price environment. While not among the Motley Fool Stock Advisor’s current top 10 picks, the stock is still considered compelling for long-term growth.

I got out to Point Vicente yesterday and walked around the Vicente Bluffs Nature Reserve. The reserve is a nice, easy stroll along the clifftops and through the scrub, and it seemed like a good compromise hike while I'm still coughing. Maybe next weekend I'll feel up to something with more elevation gain.
