  1. Good morning. 🌞🌤️🌦️

    6 September 2026

I’ve realized that if I’d stop putting off things that don’t actually need doing right away, I’d probably get a lot more done. I’ve become a master procrastinator. The funny thing is that, up until a few years ago, you might’ve thought I had OCD the way I was always in motion. Now I only spring into action when something feels urgent. I still do a better job than some folks though — I think.

These days I’m more interested in doing what I want to do rather than what I need to do, even if what I want to do is absolutely nothing. Somehow “doing nothing” has climbed pretty high on my list of priorities. In fact, as I’m typing this, I’m thinking about me and Charlie heading out to the porch so I can sit in a rocking chair and sip coffee. Charlie doesn’t rock or sip, of course, but he’s perfectly happy just hanging out with me.

I really should deal with the weeds growing in the gravel around the house. Maybe I’ll wait for winter to kill them off, or maybe I’ll hire someone. God, I’m lazy. I did get out and trim the sidewalks and driveway a few days ago, so that’s something. And today would be the perfect day to pull weeds — the rain loosened everything up. But we’ll see. I’ve already prioritized coffee on the porch.

In the back of my mind there’s a small worry about what happens if something takes me out of the picture and I don’t have everything squared away. But honestly, at that point it becomes somebody else’s problem. I’m not there yet, though, and I’m also not ready to spend whatever time I’ve got left obsessing over chores. I’d rather enjoy the morning, the coffee, and Charlie’s company — weeds be damned.

  6. Starting #stouturday with light fare, laundry, and wardriving. Reverse order, of course.

  7. The mister is off to a black tie event tonight, so I have activated my store of knowledge on the arcane arts of ironing. There is something highly pleasing about getting all those little pleats on the front of a tuxedo shirt neatly and tidily and starchily and crisply in line.

A wise friend of mine asserts that ironing is the best chore: starts off clean, ends up clean. I agree.

  8. There's a lot of oxygen in my blood, my heart rate is good, and I'm currently relaxed on my day off before errands and chores begin. We'll see if that continues... it's still early in the day, week, and new month of June.

  10. #CoLiving

Co-living is about living well with housemates, intergenerational homes and in intentional communities like eco-villages. Basically anything beyond the modernist nuclear family setup.

Does anyone have any resources around co-living from getting started zines to resources on setting up good housemates decision making practices.

Increasingly folks around me are exploring different configurations for living together and it raises questions around how to do this well.

    Keen for resources!!!

  11. Reading Time: 2 minutes

I love to recycle but recently on Saturday I have been hiking or climbing so I couldn't go to the recycling centre. The result is that I often accumulate recycling for several weeks. One day I finally have a saturday morning free, and that isn't a public holiday, and I take things to recycle.

My other reason for not going to the recycling centre much is that the road to and from the recycling is narrow. It's not narrow if you drive old cars, but it is narrow if you drive modern cars. My car is narrow and small so I can drive down that road, two abreast, but usually I wait for the path to be cleared, as that is the norm, at the moment.

I wish that getting to and from the recycling centre was more convenient. I wish that the road was slightly wider but also that commuters would stop going down that narrow road as if it was a short cut. There are plenty of wide roads that could be used by commuters instead. That's my reason for going at 08:30-09:00. It's abusrd to go there at rush hour.

If I had my way that road would be closed to cars, except for those going to recycle, or the local houses. It would become a cycling path instead. It has the ideal width to be a cycling lane and walking path. The paradox of this road is that it's narrow, so people race down over the speed limit, in the hope that they won't get blocked. It is a road that I hate cycling, and walking along, because of how dangerous people are when driving down this road. By going down this road as little as possible I help by not being part of the problem.

Another reason I went this morning is that it's raining. If it's raining people are likely to think "I can go next week". I like when it's quiet.

    And Finally

I am not being lazy by not hiking or doing other things. It's good that I take a break from hiking to do something as essential as recycling. One day I might even be fully up to date.

  12. Just running errands and doing chores today. Keeping busy over all. I really wanted to take the cameras out for a walk this morning, but the weather was awful. The light was the worst ever. So disheartening. Oh well.

After a couple of days of weirdness, my stomach has been a team player today. No issues at all. I’m proud of the little surgically altered guy. It did not wake me up last night, which was nice of it. My legs are another story though. Twice overnight I woke up with bad leg cramps. It’s always something when you’re an old fart like me. All I want is to sleep and my own body is stopping me from doing it. What a jerk I am to myself.

Before I get back to the housework, I think I am going to finally put in a vacation request at work for our staycation in September and our next trip back to Disney World in January. I think it’s time, don’t you? There. I just did it. Hopefully my boss doesn’t have a heart attack when he sees two week long vacation requests at once. They are spread out. It’s okay. I’ll wait a while before I put in for the second planned Disney trip. That’s a full year away.

The Red Sox winning streak ended last night. They played Cincinnati, who are pretty terrible this year, and lost. It made me sad. Here’s hoping for vengeance in today’s game. I want to win by 90, at least.

Okay. Back to work, red head.
