I don't want to alarm anyone, but my current #KDE setup is very similar to how I used to have my #WindowsVista desktop.

It's so pretty. Also, Vista was the last good version of Windows, it just had a rough start. 7 was just an ugly version of Vista. Don't at me.

For those who love MSN/Windows Live Messenger, it has been revived! This site has been around for awhile, but I thought I should mention it for those who don't know about it and also for those who are tired of modern messaging programs which are often inaccessible. Note that you must create a free account with them and cannot use an old hotmail address or whatever you used with Microsoft's version. This is the same software, but modified to work on their servers. For that reason, even if you have the original on your computer, you should install theirs. There is a way to patch an existing one, but why go through all the trouble? Escargot works on Windows, from XP through 11, and it is completely accessible with NVDA, minus the games, which never worked with screen readers anyway. It's funny too cos prior to all of that, I had a laptop that had an AMD Athlon X2 QL-64, an NVIDIA 8200M G, and 4 gigs of DDR2-667 RAM. Yes. 4 gigs of DDR2 RAM.

It was my first ever PC. It was running Windows 7 when I got it. It prolly ran Windows Vista originally but I got Windows 10 to run on it even though the components are from 2008. It's also the device where I first dipped into Linux, starting with Ubuntu 18.04.

As many workers I must use #Windows daily, useless to say that it essentially a bag of crap...

I personally stopped to use it since 2009, I really forgot how bad can be for other tasks until my son decided to play videogames on its laptop...

While I am totally against it we allowed him because the excellent grades, so basically for school he must use #Devuan / #Linux and to play videogames he reboots in Windows and steam, although he plays mostly #roblox (🤢) with his friends.

And in Windows happens whatever craziest thing... And I am surprised how shitty can be Windows to do anything from graphics to play...

But even more surprise how videogamers cheat about Windows... It is the shittiest OS evere but they want to looks like software expert so they confuse high-end hardware with optimization, only because you need 3/4 of it only to run Windows smooth...

On any other OS but not the commercial ones, including: #Android; #ChromeOS; #MacOS; you get better performance.

I dare to say the #enshittification started with #WindowsVista...

Potentially stupid questions:

I found a Windows Vista "re-installation" DVD that came with a laptop a long time ago.

❓Could it be possible to make a Linux/Windows dual boot that way?
❓Or: Can I install Windows on an iMac?
❓Or is an old computer/laptop the better option?

I wouldn't want/ need internet connection, but it would be nice to have some Windows version available for my old mp3 player to hopefully work again.

Recently did a week long experiment in which I commited to use Windows Vista in the modern day. No joke, I used a secondary machine as my main rig for the week, in which I considered my own use case, aswell as a few other ones in an attempt to answer this interesting question. Wow, there's a #WindowsVista theme for KDE.

Vista was the last version of Windows that actually excited me. I even pre-ordered the Ultimate retail box to run on my new build (AMD Athlon & Geforce 7900GT) after using the beta.

Yes, that Vista. It was great. It was all downhill from there (yes, that includes 7, which was basically a service pack for Vista which made the UI slightly worse).

Are we still doing #ThrowBackThursday ? This is from 2007 when I was crashing the Windows Vista Launch event. I was walking past Best Buy in downtown Manhattan when a large crowd of photographers caught my eye. It turned out a guy in a bright red sweater was there presenting the then-new Windows Vista OS. I certainly didn't have an invitation, but I was carrying my Nikon D-7000 with a tele-zoom lens. Apparently, that was enough to get me mistaken for a member of the press – which I definitely wasn't! I really should have bought that #10000 Windows Vista box. 😂
