Over time, I've realized that a primary goal in my art is to not only feel seen myself but also for others to feel seen as well. I want my works to hit people in a way that gives them pause and makes them wonder how someone knew such an intimate detail about them and their feelings. This goal is very much still a work in progress, but I am enjoying the journey and the process of experimentation and expression.

A Tanka-Puente poem
my mind runs circles a mouse on its spinning wheel of anxiety I chase ideas around till even restlessness tires ~ No feeling is final ~ my fingers tap out five, then seven, then five more breath enters the lines by the time this poem ends I'll have ended something too
Tanka Tuesday: Tanka-Puente
For this week’s Tanka Tuesday prompt, Colleen encourages us to compose Puente poems with tankas as the first and third verses of our Puente poems.
Puente?
The Puente form has three stanzas with the first and third having an equal number of lines and the middle stanza having only one line which acts as a bridge (Puente) between the first and third stanza. The first and third stanzas convey a related but different element or feeling, as though they were two adjacent territories. The number of lines in the first and third stanza is the writer’s choice as is the choice of whether to write it in free verse or rhyme.
The center line is delineated by a tilde (~) and has ‘double duty’. It functions as the ending for the last line of the first stanza AND as the beginning for the first line of the third stanza. It shares ownership with these two lines and consequently bridges the first and third stanzas.
