CW: Book review and mild promo?!
@bookishbrews I’m thinking I should have you review and/or set up an interview related to my novel The Erenwine Agenda prior to my reissuing it under my new (post divorce) name, and also have you review Otter Coast prior to its publication. Those are novels 1 and 2 in my trilogy (it’s the 3rd one I’m first drafting in Nanowrimo now). The trilogy is ecofiction and has mixed race characters (mixed Desi, mixed First Nations). And other race related themes that I won’t say because they would be book spoilers! Lmk how this works. E-mail [email protected] if preferred. Also tagging @ecofiction as I am interested in having you review these as well from an earth based ecofiction perspective.
And thanks!

This week's #JukeboxFridayNight theme - #BookishBeats - is made for me! Here's one I've long loved.
She spoke in dialect I could not understand
But one thing that she made clear
There was no coming on to her
There was no intellect
That she could respect
If it couldn't see
That the girl just wants to be

#bookishadvent belated day 23, #smallpress edition is [...] by Ava Hoffman –– Hoffman's visually and topically experimental poetry book toys with expectations of legibility levied on trans narratives. This is #transMadness, recoded.

#bookishadvent day 22, #smallpress edition is Heavenly Breakfast by the incomparable Samuel r Delany. This book-length essay frankly, humorously discusses queer communal living in 1967-68, and approaches its subject matter with a radically anticarceral, #antipsychiatry, and youth-liberation perspective.

#bookishadvent day 21, #smallpress edition is a small #zine with a huge impact - “every thug is a lady” by julia eff. I picked it up on a whim while in high school, and it transformed my relationship with gender(lessness) early in my journey as a trans person. It still means the world to me.

#bookishadvent day 19, #smallpress edition! in honor of my bday, i'm sharing one of my all-time favorite books. ever. Today's book is Salt Fish Girl by Larissa Lai, a #queercrip #canlit novel that fuses myth, poetics, & radical speculation + queer dreaming to imagine alternatives to eugenic racial capitalism. I love this book more than I can say. Read it.

#bookishadvent #smallpress edition, day 11 is Casey Plett’s “A Dream of a Woman”! Plett is one of my all-time favorite authors, and writes stunning trans fiction. This book, from Arsenal Pulp Press, weaves interlocking but distinct stories across a novel-length manuscript — truly a brilliant study in (trans-)form as well as content.

Mexican Gothic - Silvia Moreno-GarciaWhen Neomí receives a frantic message from her newlywed cousin, her father forces her to visit them at their estate in the mountains. What Neomí finds is a dark mystery that threatens everything she knows. My absolute favorite read of the year. Moreno-Garcia writes a beautiful, haunting novel.

CW: Japanese Bookish Advent Day 24 - Last day!
The last window of this event had to be a book by Keigo Higashino again! (He is the reason why I started learning Japanese in the first place.)
探偵ガリレオ (tantei galileo) and 予知夢 (yochimu) are the first two books of the Galileo series. They are not translated into English, but they are important to understand the relation between Kusanagi and Yukawa, which in turn gives more meaning to The Devotion of Suspect X.

CW: A window into a lost rural world
#BookishAdvent Day 24: The Country Child by Alison Uttley
This autobiographical novel of a child growing up on a farm in rural Derbyshire, before the wars of the twentieth century changed everything, is slow-starting, but rewarding to a patient reader. The writing beautifully evokes both the natural and the human world of a lost place and time.
