  6. The Messiah Chronicles: A Live Journal – Part I

Author's Note: in this day and age it may be hard to tell what is real and what is not. Consider this post and all following posts in this series to be a form of experimental Fiction. All resemblance to persons living or dead is coincidental. The protagonist is not the same as the author, though some details are drawn from the author's lived experience thus far. I am the messiah. The second coming. It has taken me years to accept this, but I now understand my purpose. I am, in fact, Jesus […]

  16. It’s 05:00 and I’m tip-toeing to the skip with bin bags full of stuff wearing a grubby old tracksuit. My girlfriend Dani suggested bringing stuff home to charity shop it, but I don’t think anyone will want a well used tea spoon from Tenby, a souvenir of a 1970s holiday. The company are going to take this skip away, and next weekend I’ll drive back and fill it up again. What a time to be alive.

  17. New chapter in the Charlotte serial today. This one drops into the shop, where welding becomes its own kind of quiet:

“With the visor down and my eyes six inches from the arc, the world becomes small. It shrinks to the weld, the bright arc, and the cascading sparks.”

And Charlotte? She picks it up faster than she should.

  18. “Tomorrow morning. The storm will be well and truly a Witch by then. This is the first time I’m relying on Gaia’s control of the environment. I’m amazed at how granular I can be. But you should go see Mayor Chow and warn her, in general terms.”

“Tell me about this ‘unfortunate accident’.”

  19. Since the Witch will make lake freighter traffic inconvenient for a few days, the sea cans will start rolling out via road delivery. The shipping season will close at the end of the year and re-open start of April. So we’ll ship what we can by sea freighter, then switch just to road for the winter, picking up sea freight again in spring.”

  20. I will provide full documentation to all concerned authorities. During the confusion I will make another announcement. Then we’ll wait for things to settle before we deploy the Ultors and my avatars.”

“What about blast and radiation damage?”

    #Robots #Gaia #SelfConsciousness #SerialFiction

  21. “There’s a Witch of November brewing, which I am encouraging and focusing. When the freighter gets near the centre of the arc defined by Kincardine and Tobermory, verifiably on the Canadian side of the border, the ship will have an unfortunate accident. It will sink and at some point the pressure trigger will detonate the device. It’ll be a major international incident.

  22. We took the short walk to the mine head, then the elevator and golf cart downstairs to Mica’s home. We ignored the Ultors posted at various checkpoint locations, and they ignored us. They were all aspects of Mica after all. Once securely in Mica’s cab, I continued the conversation.

    “Details?”

  23. Part II

    CHAPTER 10

    The Gale

“The storm has started,” Mica told me one morning over my breakfast. “I’m tracking an interesting freighter on the lake. It just cleared the Straits of Mackinac, originating in Chicago.”

    “Cargo?” I asked.

“Something quite small and torpedo shaped, with a suspicious radiation signature.”

    “A nuclear fusion bomb?”

  24. My presentation — the one that my entire future hinged on — was unfortunately scheduled for Friday, the same day I was supposed to prevent the apocalypse.

  25. The drive back was tense. Quiet. Weirdly awkward.
It didn’t help that Todd’s windshield was gone, and the cold night air was blasting our faces. And it definitely didn’t help that I couldn’t figure out why Todd wouldn’t even look at me.

  26. By the time I crept out of the house, Todd was already waiting for me in the bushes. I was so happy to see him, and not just because he still had my demon-slaying sword with him.

  27. This demon was real. He’d come to eat me. I released him from the bowels of wherever, and now he was famished.
He was only six inches tall, though, so it would probably take a while to tear me apart.

  28. I almost passed out from the fumes and the temperature and the horrible realization that I had just opened a direct channel into Hell.
The thing, whatever it was, growled again. It was closer now. It was crawling out of the fiery pit.

  29. “It’s so strange,” Dad said. “First, the sky rained frogs. And now this stuff with the park.”
He was talking about the giant cracks in the earth.

  30. Because nothing in my life was going as planned, I literally collided with Todd while I was hurrying out the front door. That’s why you gotta keep your head up when you’re speed-walking.

  31. Basketballs hurtled past my head. The air smelled like sweat and desperation. Sneakers squeaked in unholy pain.
Gym class wasn’t exactly my natural habitat.

  32. Todd was late for our first study session. Not by much, though. Only about ten minutes.
But ten minutes is a good chunk of time when study hall lasts for only forty-five.

  33. Something crunched under my sneaker. The sidewalks were still pretty frog-covered, but by now the pieces had dried out in the sun.

  34. Most schools would’ve canceled class after the sky rained frogs. But not Farber High. Nope. We’d had a three-day sewage leak-a-thon this semester (pretty gross), so we couldn’t afford to miss any more class.

  35. Today sucked beyond all imagining.
    I smiled like an idiot.
Now, those two sentences don’t exactly fit together. Unless you’re a masochist, or like a proud vacuum cleaner or something.
