Was macht man bei der Hitze? In den Keller mit einem Buch. Nachdem ich "How to take smart notes" gelesen hatte, bin ich jetzt gerade bei "The 5 Elements of Effective Thinking". Das ist eines der Bücher, welches in dem anderen erwähnt wurde. Bin zur Hälfte durch und ich muss sagen, es ist echt interessant.

The past 2 years I've been reading books in acord to what's happening
I went from reading 3 books per week to not reading anything for 7 months after feeling too depressed with the topics.
For this #book recommendation I present: #social #intelligence by Daniel Goleman. A book from 2006 that will solve your doubts about the leaders of today and will shine light on what the right path was all along.

Has someone a #BookRecomendation regarding the history of #southamerica
Covering (colonialism,) the struggle independence and post-colonialism, US meddling, dictatorships, ideally until "today"
Context: my daughter asking question (her mother is from Venezuela).
Her mother's position is more or less, Maduro ist bad (with which I somewhat agree), the left is bad and responsible for everything that wrong.I think that is inadequate and too simplistic.
My current choice is
Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent (Spanish: Las venas abiertas de América Latina) by Eduardo Galeano.
Edit: TIL about https://lateinamerikaarchiv.de/ containing many books on Latin Amerika. While the page is German, the referenced books are largely available in either Spanish or English as well

I have doubts about some work "trends".
First, sometimes I really think full remote work can be indeed harmful to both employer and employee.
Second, about the 4 days work week, I question if would be better to have a 5 days of 6 hours work.
Does anyone have reading suggestions that walk through this subjects?

Anyone have a good book for teaching kids (8-12-ish) computer concepts. Not a programming book, but things like CPU, memory, storage and how they work.

CW: Semi spoilers for the Terraformers by Annalee Newitz
Here I was having a good time reading the third part of The Terraformers. Just full on heart-emoji-eyes for the newest protagonist, Scrubjay who happens to be a flying-train-person, and their cat-person friend named Moose 😍
... but then I entered chapter 40 and @annaleen decided to rip all of the hearts right out of my eyesockets 🥺

There's still time to enter our December #giveaway on TikTok!
In short, post a comment on the video telling me your favorite book, and the mood you're in for your next read. I'll use a beta version of the #storygraph recommendation engine to send you a personalized recommendation, then pick one lucky person to receive that recommendation in the mail!

This is the first book, I bought because of Mastodon and if this is the kind of book I read because of this app, I'm staying put. Spent wonderful hours imagining Kew Gardens without the airplane noise, wandered with William Hooker through the half built palm house and learned so much! Even though palms are the stars and ferns take a back seat, I congratulate everyone in advance for the pleasure of reading @KateTeltscher's Place of Palms

#bookishadvent day 18, #smallpress edition is “Seventeen Names for Skin” by Roland Blackburn! This short horror novel darkly satirizes the stereotypical illness narrative with a strong dose of body horror to match!

Hi fellow bookstodommers,
I've been a fan of urban dark fantasy like Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, Jim Butcher's Dresden Files and Simon R Green's Night side.
But I would like to read some more in this genre with non-western European root. So books infused Asian, African or South-American lore.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

Just finished "Hench" by Natalie Zina Walschots, a supervillain origin story where her superpowers are data analysis... In Excel... So you know she's truly evil. 5/5*

#bookrecomendation In the Field - The Art of Field Recording by Cathy Lane & Angus Carlyle
The book contains a fantastic collection of interviews with different #soundartists who use #fieldrecording in their work.
It sparked a lot of inspiration in me and I can definitely recommend it.
