And this goes beyond just getting the proprietor's cut, the vigorish, skimming your 5, or 10, or 30%.
Central control of a network means deciding what that network is. Where it begins, where it ends, what goes in, what comes out, who can receive, who can send, what interactions are possible, speeds and latencies, what messages are heard, what are not, who pays, who gets paid, who plays for free.
These factors are wholly ignored by contemporary US (Borkian) antitrust doctrine.
It's not just the vig.

Thought y'all might appreciate this video as the nail-biter it was for me. This is System/34 #3 in the restoration queue, and rescued from the basement of a home in Michigan. It contains the life's work of one of the first people to develop an "input method" to enter non-Latin languages with a standard keyboard. This S/34 is also one of the few that ever spoke fluent Chinese. Archiving this one is going to be a treat.

In many cases, other opportunities arise when you demonstrate your value, uniqueness, and/or unmatched expertise or skill in particular areas.
I'm not saying that this path is easy but what I AM saying is that it's possible. I realize that trailblazing or striking out on one's own isn't for everyone. However, for the ones who are willing to step outside of their boxes and look for new ways outside of "business as usual," the rewards can be well worth the effort.

What's not often spoken about is how useful it can be to remain completely uncategorizable. This can be maddening or confounding to some, but when you defy expectation & easy categorization, then you're in a league of your own.🤩 This way of thinking is the realm of iconoclasts, pioneers, & pretty much any trailblazer who's ever created anything new. We need more of these types of thinkers. We already have enough box-checkers in this world. So, diverge & conquer.😉
