  2. The ripples of #JeremyHunt's scorched earth #AutumnStatement have reached #localgovernment pretty quickly... this is starting to look like the wilful hobbling of the country in the hope that the ensuing disaster(s) around the public sector will so damage the next Govt. that that the #Tories can claim to be our saviours after a one term Labour Govt. fails (for whatever reason) to be a salvation.

It immoral #politics of the wreckers! They're just narcissistic nihilists!

  4. When discussing tbe #autumnstatement, Fiona Bruce asked the #bbcqt audience to put their hands up if they felt confident about the future

    Only 1 hand was raised.

That person said how debt incurred from covid and the Ukraine war has to be repaid.

Household economics are not the same as a nation's economics.

How many more times do we have to say this!

"Debt is coming down. No it isn’t. That’s just a lie. We’ve beaten inflation. No we haven’t. It’s two-and-a-half times higher than the target rate. He was bringing down the tax burden by a record amount. No he wasn’t. The tax take was on course to reach a record high." John Crace

  8. Jeremy Hunt's #AutumnStatement was a state-sanctioned assault on the meagre benefits safety net that millions rely on to keep going.

Well, these people aren't just statistics; they're voters. And there are far more of them than there are of your fans.

    BYE NOW!

  11. There is an urgent need for our politicians to have the courage to tell us that repairing our broken society and making it fit for the 21st century will cost money and we need to be prepared to pay the taxes to pay for it | Peter Wrigley

"Thanks to his brilliance, he had managed to create extra fiscal headroom. Largely thanks to inflation and capped departmental budgets – hooray for inflation! – he had extra money to spend. So he was going to squander almost all of it on tax cuts and let public services die. Austerity 2.0." John Crace

#AutumnStatement Carrots for the Rich. Sticks for the Poor.

Spent yesterday in Stevenage town centre. NHS have outsourced pre-consultancy eye checks to a private company. Service pared to the bone in old office space. There's money in the churn.

The pedestrian precinct is pawn brokers, vapes, 2nd user mobile phone repair and empty shops.

It's grim on the margins down South, not just in the North.

  21. Today’s #AutumnStatement strikes me as an election budget. Most of it consists in laying landmines for Labour over whether they will repeal the measures, or removes fiscal headroom thereby guaranteeing a second wave of austerity—and a one-term Labour government. #Torynomics

  22. In other #AutumnStatement news... #JeremyHunt has not increased funding to the #NHS.

So, the any place for solving #NHScrisis remain un(der) funded.

Given the increasing public awareness of the founding problems in the #healthservcie, one can only presume that patients have been abandoned on the basis that anyone exposed to the NHS will now unlikely vote Tory in anyway... better to target money at #pensioners directly!

  24. UK Office for Budget Responsibility reports “the largest reduction in real living standards since Office for National Statistics records began in the 1950s”. #AutumnStatement #ToryIncompetence #Torynomics bbc.com/news/uk-67498305

  25. “As the Office for Budget Responsibility analysis shows, the supposed improvement in the public finances since the last forecast is partly illusory, as inflation pushes up tax revenues, but the government pretends that it doesn’t lead to the need for increased public spending”
