-

Wow - just saw something explode over us - not a meteor, more like space debris

Does YOUR town need more healthcare workers or tourist $$?
Our local #Nanaimo Infusion event has resulted in 200+ nurses and doctors moving to #VancouverIsland, and more than a 1M dollars in tourism revenue.
Jocelyn and I wrote a guide on how it worked — copy & use it free!

"I saw a TikTok video of something called the Vancouver Island Healthcare Infusion... an invitation for U.S. medical professionals to visit in the hope of convincing some to fill the Island’s dire need for doctors and nurses. Hundreds came.
Watching those TikToks, I thought, Maybe I could live there."

made to the early ferry (though thankfully not the EARLIEST ferry)
This one has the best view from the foot passenger waiting lounge of any.
Looking out to Gabriola Island from Duke Point.
Wish us sunny skies for the ball game!

Does anyone in #Nanaimo know how much it would cost to charter a seaplane from Nanaimo harbour to Holberg, and then back again? Like, roughly.

@tod I mean well done to you and Jocelyn, but talking to a ward manager today at NRGH, they are hemorrhaging nurses and care aides still and she figured by fall beds would be closing
And she also said the recruitment for the new cancer center being built now was shambolic

“[The #Nanaimo Infusion] has provided a noticeable boost in staffing — not only at the hospital, but also at medical clinics across the region, helping address a chronic shortage of care providers.
“The success, according to organizers Tod and Jocelyn Maffin, is the grassroots nature of the Infusion premise, which has since expanded to dozens of other communities nationwide.”

Hell, I'll pay for the costumes - set up some RCMP on Terminal Ave. in Nanaimo to catch the mufflerless asshats who make everyone's lives miserable
Insufferable, pathetic dicks who think making noise is somehow manly
-
Throwing things and swearing a lot - our son's nurse called from Nanaimo hospital, new patient in his room under 'droplet' protocol and would it be ok for him to wear a mask (as an FYI, hardly anyone masks there)
Won't say if it's Covid, but likely
1: Droplet protocol is gaslighting, anything respiratory is aerosol
2: Why isn't that patient isolated?
I'm fuming

Two older women just wandered down our front path, well into our property and started picking from our blackberry and blueberry patch - like WTAF?!
Well dressed Lululemon types thinking it's just fine to trespass and steal our fruit
Seen some weird behaviour last few years from people who appear normal, but that was stunningly audacious - total breaking of social norms, and illegal
-
shit posting, here and Blue Sky, plus contacting a few journalists works. Our son's hospital called this evening because a 'ton of supplies just got flown in, some reporter has been calling the hospital all day' - procedure going ahead this evening
Pressure and embarrassing the hell out of admin idiots

Yellow Heat warning issued for Vancouver Island - humidex of 37 forecast for this afternoon
