Low-Water Level at Bowen Park
I went for a short walk in Bowen Park this morning and noticed that the water level in the Millstone River was very low. At one point, following the sound of trickling water, I went off the main pathway onto what I thought was a trail but it eventually dead-ended, so I turned around.
As I did that, I surprised a young man who said he was doing some carving, seated in a space between some large rocks. Actually, I think we surprised each other. Once we had said “hello” and assured ourselves neither of us was a threat, I went on my way. I never did see what he was carving.

Guys!! i think my very pointed whining (with spreadsheets!) back in September to my local bus service may have borne fruit.
1) A month ago I sent an email asking for an update on getting me some historical schedules to continue my comparison and (!!) was informed the person in charge of scheduling had moved on…
2) the manager committed to get me the schedules within the month.
3) yesterday I got an email from the manager saying the schedules were ready for me to pickup. (all the way back to 2000!)
4) Today I see this service notice for changes coming January 5 which includes additional buses and, most interestingly *3* changes to the Qualicum-Woodgrove including increased service and 'minor route changes’.
They haven't published the schedule itself yet but hope springs eternal that this could be an improvement that allows me to get back on the bus more often! This fall has been the least I have taken the bus in probably 15 years purely out of deteriorating schedules.

When Zoe Todd finally got her #TinyHome settled onto a new property with her father & sister in #Nanoose, she breathed a sigh of relief.
It had been quite the journey from where they had all lived in #Errington. With her dad on a fixed income & a COVID-related health scare that had her feeling vulnerable, they all had a vision of trying to find somewhere big enough where they could live in community & look after each other.
Though sometimes described as #MissingMiddleHousing, tiny home living is effectively #illegal in many regions, including Nanaimo.
Years after first investigating the possibility of permitting tiny homes as a solution to the #HousingCrisis & even advocating for their use at the 2022 #UnionOfBCMunicipalities convention, the #RDN appears to be backtracking — cracking down on residents like Todd & more clearly defining a six-month limit on those living in RVs in parks & campgrounds.
