Photos from last Sunday when we had our first #snow of the season. A fairly mild to warm week and most of it is gone, with little bits in some shady spots. Today cloudy with chance of rain/thunderstorms (I'm doubtful) but another week forecast to be mostly above average. View from this morning of one of the #RockGardens in front of the house, as the sun was just coming into the yard. Now, later afternoon much of the snow has melted, but there is still a line- similar to the shadow line you see farther back in the photo- where the trees behind keep it shaded and the snow remains! That little mound above left centre is winter snow still. This rain and snow should have the grass greening soon #garden #snow #spring #Alberta #Canada #SnowMother #weather

#Spring #snow? Maybe kinda but really early March is still winter here. After warm and dry weather for a while, we had fresh snow Monday- not cold, just near average- a little above freezing daytime, colder nights. The moisture is important for soil, trees, wetland recharging etc.

2.5 hours shovelling snow this morning, then all afternoon/evening (apart from eating, coffee etc!) has been working on the minor floor repair/painting etc I mentioned earlier.
I went out briefly just after sunset (5pm now) to take care of Pearly and restock firewood. These are my views in each direction as I went out to the road to check the mail.

First, a wild #Rose- colour still glowing in the afternoon sun- they are among the first and last things with #Autumn colour.

We also mark the arrival of winter at this time: although #SnowMother does a season long dance of advancing and receding, in recent years we've generally had snow that remains, in places, from around this time until spring! The few centimetres we received the other day is gone from roads, sunny sides of buildings and trees, etc, but remains in shady bare spots etc. The beauty of a new season begins.

In the woods on the farm today where I was harvesting deadwood for firewood. Light #snow all day and around -22 at that time. Luckily inside this wood, no wind (outside, another story, slight, but still deadly).

#SnowMother brought #winter October 23 and it stayed! After a few cold days, it's been near/ often above average (before avg was around +5 daytime, now +2day/-9 night) nights still well below freezing, days 3-9 for the coming week. Lots of snow has gone, but by no means all of it! Still lingering bits of colour, sometimes lots of it in the #sky but the season becomes more about contrasting #light / #shadow / #texture #Alberta #animist #Latvian

#FoliageFriday #SnowMother came suddenly and seriously this week, with no regard for the remaining efforts of #LeafMother 'Your time is done', she said, 'Saule turns ever more to the south and Great Mother needs her cloak of white."
...still, traces of the season's final colour remain amidst the white..

(see photos in main post) it was a warm week with daytime temperatures from 5 to nearly 15C, nights -5 to -10ish; cooling off starting yesterday- the real drop comes this week, with daytimes as low as -20C.
