This will be one of our very first (non-woody) wildflowers (someone else beat them those pics to come!)- nothing open yet 3 days ago, there could be by now, I'll check again soon... I love the early leaves anyway- Caltha like many plants has extra red/purple pigments in the emerging leaves- this may help them withstand the inevitable cold nights or even days after emergence!

My 3rd #VietnameseCoriander container is now totally full of happy plants! I propagated these ones from my main repurposed bathtub planter, in June. They are left outside in Winter & they survive through snow/ice. We harvest them year round on an as needed basis.
⚠️DO NOT put these into the ground. Grow in containers so you can control them. They spread fast, if put into ground.

Although I've always loved the beautiful foliage of #JapaneseBarberry shrubs, we've avoided adding any to our own gardens. They're highly invasive if not heavily controlled. Japanese barberry provides prime environments for #ticks to breed due to the high humidity in barberry's dense foliage. It's believed that spread of barberry is correlated with the spread of #LymeDisease.
I really wish stores/nurseries that sell plants would inform customers on problematic ones so folks can make more informed decisions. Many uninformed customers often buy Japanese barberry shrubs because they're deer resistant & visually appealing. I suggest avoiding it. It's been banned for sale in some USA states.

The cold bugs are waning...🤧
I love this time of year as the gently unfolding leaves of our #Japanese #Maples spread their joy in our little garden.
This one is called Miwa and is one of the reticulated group of maples with nice spring colour and interesting shaped leaves.
Most have different coloured veins to the #leaf #colour too.
Best in #shade where they can hold into their colours a little longer each @spring.
