  3. #Zoomposium with Dr. #Wanja #Wiese: “The #mathematization of #consciousness or can #mind be #simulated?”

I had been aware of Wanja Wiese for some time, as his name has often been mentioned in the context of the application of the #philosophical #concepts of “#predictive #coding/#processing” and the “#free#energy #principle” (#Karl #Friston) in connection with the elucidation of the constitution of consciousness.

  8. FINISHED! Yesterday I made my first #Houdini vellum fluid sim. I'm using velocity as a color attribute, and lots of smoothing trickeries for the final mesh. Enjoy!

  18. So let's talk about #generative #AI. #LLMs, specifically.

I was reading an article in the Guardian this morning. They had an interview with a couple of experts on AI
#research. And I don't mean developers of LLMs, I mean experts in the field. One of them made a statement that in his opinion, GPT-4 "has a 'brain' about the size of a squirrel". And that before rushing ahead, we need to get a good understanding of what that kind of a 'brain' can actually do before we race ahead to, say, a hedgehog.

Now consider all of the companies who are rushing ahead to roll out LLMs in this class, putting LLMs on their help desk, using LLMs to write code, using LLMs to make decisions about customers. Even, in more than one recent famous case, asking LLMs to write legal briefs for them.

All of these people are delegating decisions that are crucial to their business to a chunk of code with a
    #simulated #brain the size of a squirrel's.

Apparently because THEY THINK THE #SQUIRREL IS #SMARTER.

    Think about it.

    (And, well, yeah,
also because they don't have to pay the squirrel.)
