So as I have changed my legal names and all that, I have moved from my old rotten #rancher #kubernetes to a sweet #talos one. But you could fine me at @ailnoth before. But that server is dying.... So I will not cause chaos from this account instead.

1) I log to corporate #VPN
2) I log to #Rancher
3) I copy the (now refreshed) .kube/config to my local machine
4) I am able to run `kube` token refresh cli command
5) I log into corporate #GitLab instance
6) I insert refreshed token to the #CI
7) I am allowed to make a release^^ Surely the #security dance is worth it. Every. Two. Weeks.

Raspberry Pi Zero Wireless with a nice little enclosure case and a few attachments.
I'm gonna be using this to automate some stuff.
I got in touch with a rancher who was talking about wanting to be able to monitor their stock tanks for water as well as having some cameras and a bunch of other stuff.
And I'm curious if I can get all of that done with a raspberry pie.

Vandaag #Debezium-corvee.

In the coming days, I'll attend @fosdem and #CfgMgmtCamp
Feel free to reach out if you want to talk about OSS, Infrastructure, #Rancher, @kubewarden or my work on #Updatecli
Simply sharing a drink is great too
See you there

Very excited to have gotten through a pretty big lift + refactor in the #homelab over the last few weeks. For a while, I’ve had one foot in my old, disorganized, scattered Docker services, and one foot in a new, fully automated, #gitops pseudo-prod for home.
Well, no more. I’ve cleaned up all of the old shit. Centralized config, linted, backed up, refactored, and smoke tested the core platform. It completely spins up and down, with one Playbook, data fully backed up, etc.
Hardware:
- 3x #amd mini PC’s w/32GB RAM
- #synology DS1813+
- 1x Intel miniPC for #homeassistant OS
- TP-Link #Omada gateway, PoE switch, and AP’sMy core stack is, going from hardware to workload lifecycle and access:
- #proxmox
- #fedora #fedora_coreos VM’s
- #k3s #Rancher #kubernetes
- #nfs subdir provisioner
- #ansible
- #argocd
- #Tailscale
- #1password Kubernetes Operator
- #veleroI just did a DR drill with my kids’ #minecraft servers, and it worked great, and I’m super pumped with #selfhosting #paperlessngx!
Those are the first family-facing apps that I’ve deployed, and I’ve got a laundry list of more services on the way.
It was far, far more work than it probably needed to be…but I also can fully trust it with our most important personal docs, which was priority one.

I finished my Hack Week 25 project "SUSE Virtualization (Harvester): VM Import UI flow"!
Currently, migrating VMs requires writing Kubernetes manifests.
So I thought, wouldn't it be cool to do this through the Harvester UI directly?
Who knows, maybe you'll see this feature in a future release ;)Read more on my blog: http://dominik.wombacher.cc/posts/hack-week-25-vm-import-ui-flow-harvester.html

Updated #Orked, my collection of scripts to help set up a production-ready #RKE2 #Kubernetes cluster in your #homelab. This update brings general improvements to the scripts, improved documentation, #HAProxy load balancer support for load balancing multiple Master nodes, and upgraded all components including RKE2, #Longhorn, #Nginx Ingress, #Cert-manager, #MetalLB, #Rancher, etc. to their latest versions.
I still hope someday to support more Kubernetes distributions like #k3s, but haven't gotten around to it. I've also been planning to support more #Linux distros as the base too, instead of only #RockyLinux/#RHEL, but that'll have to wait as well for now. Regardless, I am quite happy with how mature and stable these scripts have turned out to be. If you'd like to set up a cluster of your own, maybe check it out!

Hmm my services are running fine as far as I can tell, but my #Rancher/#RKE2 #Kubernetes cluster is acting up - possibly #etcd related?
Biggest tell being how the control plane/API server not being the most responsive, and some essential pods failing/restarting including #cert-manager,cloud-controller-manager,csi-smb-controller,kube-apiserver,kube-scheduler,rke2-snapshot-controller,csi-provisioner+-resizer,-snapshotter, yadda yadda.
Not sure what could be causing it just yet. -

The "that was quick and easy to deploy pipeline" this week:
* Infisical (secrets vault by environment)
* Git forge (Forgejo)
* Jenkins (build, test, deploy)
* Harbor (container registry)
* Rancher (Kubernetes - test and production deployments)
* ansible, ha_proxy, cert-manager, prometheus, etc., etc., etc. There's a particular joy in #DevOps when your devs get to focus on writing the code and tests and the rest of it from there just feels like magic.

Very glad that Docker (and containers) exists.
You don't know how tedious is to set up a development environment to fix one line.
It would be great if you could mount a file as a filesystem but I guess the performance penalty would be greater than... well, just mounting a folder.

#Rancher? #K3s? #Portainer? Oder klassisch mit #Linux-HA und #DRBD? Oder ganz anders? -

A new version of check_rancher2, an #opensource monitoring-plugin for #Kubernetes clusters managed by @SUSE Rancher, is now available!
Version 1.13.0 introduces a new check type "api-token" to monitor the #API token expiry used by the plugin.
Since #Rancher 2.8, the API tokens are (by default) set to expire after 3 months. With this new check type you can do a pro-active #monitoring on the API token, before it expires (and avoid your monitoring going blank).

Here's the interesting thing about that, though: It is *not* currently possible to run an Elemental downstream cluster in Harvester, but it should be possible to deploy a TalosLinux cluster on Harvester, though not as a Rancher downstream cluster, by provision nor adoption, since Rancher agent very much assumes you're running k3s/RKE2. But you could just spin up Talos VMs in Harvester with bridged networking, etc, and it should work.
-
Someone at SCaLE asked me about running #Rancher on #TalosLinux. Strictly speaking, it should be possible in #Harvester since I remember getting it to run in Eucalyptus. It is possible to do #Longhorn in Talos as well, but I don't know about k3s/RKE2, but it doesn't seem practical (or possible, or in any way supported) to do that over Sidero Metal for Talos or SLEMicro for Rancher.
-
Thanks to all who came to my baremetal #Kubernetes talk at #SCaLE22x today! I appreciated the good questions at the end as well!
