I find myself at a point where I'm encountering irreconcilable differences between my moral, ethical, and technical objections to the use of LLMs, and my employer's leadership's desire to force the use of LLMs into every aspect of day to day operations. As a result, I find myself #OpenToWork .
I have decades of experience in the #SysAdmin / #SRE / #DevOps / #CICD / #CloudComputing range of skills. Currently acting as a subject matter expert on #Kubernetes , #Terraform , and #Observability . Mostly supporting #GCP platforms these days, but I am comfortable pivoting to other #cloud platforms like #AWS or even #OnPrem . Can do #ProjectManagement and #TeamLeadership. Experienced in #DevSecOps and #FedRAMP processes.
I would strongly prefer to deal with no LLM tooling at all, but will settle for having to use it less than in the current environment.

Do we have any owners of one of those Ryzen AI Max+ 395 128GB UMA boxes here that operate them on the daily for at least a few months as a claude LLM coding server and are capable of giving a comparative run down on their performance vs the OG claude and its collection of formal prose generators?
Also: Especially curious to hear any numbers that came out of a watt meter in daily consumption and base/peak numbers. Same with the used models, their size, their respective achieved tok/s and response times.
And should you have had the opportunity of comparing this against non-UMA beefy dGPUs on the above parameters that'd also be quote interesting.

However, I can't help but feel sceptical about the article posted. It sounds too much like a #salesPitch. I'm especially bothered by point 4 ‐ #cloudFirst. #CloudServices have plenty of sensible #useCases. However, for many businesses, the number drops radically once #BusinessObjectives are considered. #DataStorage is often best done #onprem, in many cases, purely from a financial perspective [1]. Google seems to hint at this approach introducing security issues. /2

💻 Hello Old Friend, Talos II 💻
This was my first IBM POWER9 system, acquired in 2020 and built for home/desk use. Dual socket SMT4 Sforza, 144 threads, 256-512GB RAM, various storage/net/accelerators over the years. [1]
As expected, I fell in love and acquired four IBM Power System L922-2U [2], which are presently in the colo awaiting network rebuild (remote hands this time).
The Talos II has served a variety of purposes, with most of its time running FreeBSD PPC64le (&a bit of PPC64be for fun). Sometimes also Linux, back when I was tearing into qemu code for compiler optimization hypothesis testing, RTX GPU passthrough, +validating assumptions about qemu on P9/le handling amd64 & arm64 emulation.
So, out of storage! Into the rack! New user accounts! But first it needs updated OS drives (the 3x 64GB SATADOM in Raid-Z1 need to be repurposed), and a NIC (25G-DP CX-5 or X710-DA4).
