I am doing another thermal cleaning and battery replacement on an Intel NUC8 mini computer.
View of the motherboard and heatsink outside of the case, as you rarely see these little boards outside of their little box cases.
If the CMOS battery hadn't failed, I probably would not have completely disassembled. But to get to the battery to replace, the board has to come out of the case and the cooling fan removed... so might as well do a thermal cleaning and reapplication of thermal paste.
Once refurbished, this little computer with be sold to a local customer.

My little #nuc media server on #ubuntu ran fine for 9 months with the fan speed fixed at 2500rpm, barely ever exceeding 50°C
Today it suddenly kernel panicked and after a hard reboot the BIOS showed CPU at 80°C
After cooling it down I switched to a quiet fan profile, will see how that works.
I am puzzled at the sudden change however. -
