That’s so true - now you say it - there *is* a really noticeable aesthetic to their work - having looked through about two pages of it now, including the Christmas compilation. One briefly showed the tech for the projections; it must be a real art just finding suitable buildings & somewhere safe to project from.
Noticed that below the animation of Patel rolling his eyes was the text: “paid for by Lincoln Project Advocacy” or similar but can’t find anything on their website. -

« Stop War », calligraphie de l’artiste polonaise Barbara Galińska. Puissance de la typographie : le message est simple et direct ; et le visuel frappant et élégant à la fois.
Signe des temps (et de l’état du monde), ce visuel c’est largement diffusé et surtout a été réutilisé et détourné massivement et de façon créative de par le monde.
« Il y a déjà eu une fresque à Brooklyn, une autre sera réalisée en Suisse. Ses affiches étaient présentes à la FOA National March for Palestine. Les enfants de l’organisation caritative CISV (Children International Summer Village) en Italie portent des t-shirts avec ce motif graphique. Il y a même eu une inscription “Stop Wart” de 77 mètres sur la plage de Bridlington South en Angleterre. Des affiches et des autocollants sont visibles dans les rues de nombreuses villes en Europe et en Amérique. À Varsovie, à l’occasion de l’anniversaire du déclenchement de la guerre en Ukraine, la visuel a été affichée en grand format sur le mur du centre culturel, et un “Stop War” de deux mètres de haut se dresse au milieu de la verdure » (Artsper).
Barbara Galińska est polonaise, architecte de formation, elle a travaillé sur des animations et des décors de dessins animés, et a été illustratrice et graphiste pendant de nombreuses années. La typographie et la calligraphie occupent depuis longtemps une place importante dans son travail créatif.

Cette photo puissante d’un pochoir sur un mur prise par Jacob Rubner a été choisie par l’hebdomadaire « Politis » pour illustrer un article consacré à l’histoire d’amour entre une jeune journaliste gazaouie et l’homme dont elle est tombée amoureuse en pleine guerre...
L’image est non seulement magnifique, mais elle semble donner au premier abord un sens politique au récit de cette romance résistante. Sauf que...
Sauf que... D’une part, elle est publiée sans légende (du moins dans la version en ligne de l’article) ce qui introduit un doute sur le lieu même et le contexte où la photo a été prise. D’autre part, les graffitis en arabe (en arrière plan sur le mur), valident instinctivement un lien qui n’est qu’apparent entre la situation du récit et le contenu de l’image (le pochoir).
En fait cette photographie a été publiée par son auteur sur le site Unsplash en octobre 2019. Si elle n’y est pas non plus accompagnée d’une légende, les hashtag associés indiquent comme localisation probable Bethléem Est (بَيْت لَحْم). Nous sommes donc en Cisjordanie, en territoire Palestinien au Sud de Jérusalem... Donc dans un tout autre lieu/contexte que celui suggéré au premier abord.
Rien de très grave en fait (et je précise que cette note n’est pas une attaque contre « Politis » que vous pouvez continuer à lire sans honte).
Ce qui m’interroge par contre c’est la perte de culture du sens de l’image, sa réduction aussi à un élément décoratif ou marketing, qui sont induits par l’effet de brouillage du flux pléthorique d’images misent en circulation sur le Web.
Si l’hebdomadaire avait accompagné cette photo d’une légende, en plus de la créditer, celle-ci aurait été sans ambiguïté une image d’illustration entrant en resonance avec le contenu de l’article. Inversement, l’absence de celle-ci suggère de façon trompeuse une relation d’actualité et de validation entre la photo et le récit qu’elle accompagne.
Or, ce que je trouve puissant dans cette image — la photo tout autant que le pochoir — c’est justement qu’elle ne soit pas localisée à Gaza, et qu’elle soit antérieure à la Guerre de Gaza... Ce qui dit en fait beaucoup de la situation en Palestine, et en particulier de la guerre permanent qui est conduite par l’Etat Israélien.
