The rest of us are just the staff.

  4. "Your taxes subsidize Amazon and Walmart poverty wages. These are trillion dollar companies, but 33% of Amazon workers need public assistance and 25% of Walmart workers need SNAP to survive. We investigated how corporations are taking advantage of workers—and all of us."

  5. All of these billionaires want to be treated as if they're super stars.

Well... to be a star... first you have to burn.

    Let's make them all stars.

  6. @terminaltilt Him and all the other billionaires and tech bros can go fuck a cactus. 🌵 They can kiss it and call it Ramona if they want. Billionaires should not exist. They’re the cancer of our societies. #BillionairesShouldNotExist

  7. I mean, we don't have to eat the billionaires. We could tax them back to millionaires instead. It has the added benefit that we don't need to think about what to serve the vegans and vegetarian.

  8. I'm currently fighting with Express Scripts insurance over a compounded prescription I get that actually helps my #chronicpain.

Compounded prescriptions in the US can't be billed to insurance directly it seems, you have to pay for it yourself and then file for reimbursement.

This one costs me $339.99 for a 1 month supply.

The first bit of this journey through insurance hell is that if even a single component of the prescription isn't covered, they will refuse to reimburse you.

They will not tell you ahead of time what is and is not covered, you have to get lucky. "Ah" you say "But they have a coverage list on their website you can use, right?"

Very astute. You'd think their coverage list would give you this information but you would be wrong, the rules are different for compounded medications apparently as the coverage is based not just on the medicine itself but the amount and how it is used. And no, they do not have a separate list for compounded prescriptions.

After finally getting someone on the phone who I could keep on the phone long enough to help me, we get to the second part of this journey through hell.

A compounded prescription lists the NDC, or National Drug Code for every component in your prescription.

They declined my recent request for reimbursement of the topical pain lotion because there were components in it that weren't covered because they are OTC.

You ready for what they are?

    1. The solvent that is used to dissolve the solid powdered medication
    2. The component that holds them in a suspension
    3. The chemical that allows it to absorb through the skin
    4. THE FUCKING LOTION ITSELF
    5. THE FUCKING PUMP APPLICATOR

So basically their stance is, "Hey, you can get the medications, you just also need to have a commercial-grade pharmacy in your home and the expertise needed to dissolve these powders, titrate the mixture, hold them in suspension, mix them with chemicals that are somehow simultaneously OTC and yet only available to be sold to a licensed pharmacist, and then apply the exact amount prescribed to you without the pump applicator that doses the exact amount you are supposed to apply."

The insurance in this country is a fucking joke.

For my friends not in the US who are reading this, please don't reply by sharing how much better your insurance is than that of the US.

    I know it is.

    We all know it is.

    I'm already angry.

  9. Like many people, I cancelled my Amazon Prime account once Jeff Bezos sided with Donald Trump. I've said before that I was already frustrated with Amazon because their quality had been declining for years, to the point Amazon is pretty useless as a shopping site unless you're very tolerant of scams and low quality products. The more I think about it, the more I see these things as directly connected, and also connected to Amazon's atrocious labor practices.

  11. If it wasn't clear in before it is perfectly clear now, billionaire owned news organizations, all of the big ones today, are at best crap approximations of real journalism driven by the whims of their billionaire owners on any topic that affects their owner's wealth and power status (most topics). #msm #BillionairesShouldNotExist

Revisiting the Difference Between Mutual Aid and #Charity

    2025

"Much has been made of the distinction between charity and mutual aid. Charity is top-down and unidirectional, while mutual aid is supposed to be horizontal, reciprocal, and participatory. In practice, however, the majority of today’s self-described mutual aid projects remain more or less unidirectional efforts to provide goods and services to those in need.

"This has contributed to a situation in which conventional non-profit organizations are rebranding themselves with the language of 'mutual aid,' while some anarchists have given up on the concept entirely, fed up with a rhetoric that some say amounts to 'mutual aid being good and radical, and charity being bad and conservative.'

"Is there more to the distinction than this? How could we unlock the revolutionary potential of mutual aid?"

Claims he has been a target of assassins within the past 8 months not once, but twice.

  17. We need to stop thinking of consumerism as our go-to answer to problems – we can never overcome billionaires by "voting with our wallets"!

Instead we need to vote with our labour power. Oh you're a bad person? A bad institution? A bad system? Well, we collectively won't work for you then and we collectively will build alternatives!

  18. Trevor Milton deserved every bit of his prison sentence as did huckster Elizabeth Holmes. Yet the exaggerations and invented claims that Milton made were on the order of but not even as egregious as the ones Musk was making at the time, had been making for years before, and continues to make. In Musk's case it didn't just defraud investors but also government subsidies programs (the infamous battery exchange invented demo). So when is Musk going to get the same treatment? #ElonMusk #tesla #TrevorMilton #BillionairesShouldNotExist

  19. Being filthy rich is not a qualification.
That one has shitloads of #money doesn't mean they are smart, intelligent, educated, clever, or skilled. It often doesn't even mean that they're good at doing #business.

Why, then, do we let the filthy rich mess with everything?

  20. @molly0xfff

Wow, a #billionaire #techbro / #cryptobro is actually being held to the same legal standard as an ordinary citizen? What the heck is going on here?

Oh, wait... #SBF's net worth effectively disappeared overnight when #FTX and #SVB went belly-up, right?

Ahh, yep, there it is. He's no longer a billionaire, so his #GetOutOfJailFreeCard has been revoked. He's effectively an ordinary citizen again, so he's once again bound by the same laws that apply to everybody else.

Such a sudden, tragic fall from grace! What ever shall he do?! 😂

  21. I finally got to this @changelog episode in my podcast backlog with @pluralistic talking about his and #RebeccaGiblin book "Chokepoint Capitalism". As cynical my opinions are on the current state of our capitalist system before listening to it it's now even lower. I've had the book in my "to read" list for some time because I have wanted to read it but I make even less progress with that backlog than my podcast one. A worthy listening but it will get your blood pressure up. #capitalism #VultureCapitalism #LateStageCapitalism #MonopoliesAndCartels #BillionairesShouldNotExist #BigTechShouldNotExist changelog.com/podcast/535
