Day Before Dark Moon
Pluto Retrograde
Rainy and cool
You can read the latest on the garden on Gratitude and Growth. I actually have a decent-sized post up this week!
Yesterday morning, I worked my way through the draft of BETTING MAN, adding in the layers and the red herrings I needed in order to move forward. One wouldn’t think that could take all morning, but it did. Those fourteen chapters hold together better than I thought, which is a relief, and now there’s enough foundation to move forward.
The tension builds better now around the attacks that have happened since before the book opens. The first death is at the beginning of Chapter Five – again, farther in than I usually like to put it, but that’s where it needs to be for this book. I’m about to drop another body when I move forward, and then two more in pretty rapid succession after that. There’s enough detail and differentiation in the thoroughbred racing scenes and the polo match scenes to give readers a sense of each without being overly expositional (I hope).
The Nina books are more category length than standard length – usually between 60-70K.
I did the day’s marketing. I wrote the blurb for BETTING MAN and created the page for the book on the Nina Bell website. I haven’t put the cover art up yet. I’ll do that when the edited version of the book goes through production. I did a bit of housework, in case the friend I’m taking to Lenox today comes up to the apartment. It’s not ready for a photo shoot, but I will vacuum and do a little more tidying up this morning, and it will be what it is, in transition between winter and spring.
I did a nice chunk of work on the ghostwriting, although I don’t have a deadline for this assignment yet. I’m waiting on notes from the assignment I turned in Tuesday last week.
It was a solid, balanced workday, which gave me a sense of satisfaction. I got the scripts for Monday night’s session with Athena, and will probably read them over the weekend.
I’m pondering an LOI to a local organization doing a restructuring. I may work on that a bit tomorrow and next week, and then see if it’s worth sending.
I dropped off/picked up books at the library, ran into Big Y for a big batch of cilantro that I need for today’s crockpot meal, and then picked up my CSA box at Savvy Hive. It was raining, so I did all the errands by car instead of on foot. There were too many books to lug around on foot anyway, and I wanted to get those errands out of the way yesterday to free up some time today.
I’m skipping online meditation this morning, because I want to get my errands out of the way and get some work done before my friend and I head down to Lenox for the Clark Art Institute’s event down at Shakespeare & Co.
I hope the rain lets up while we drive there and back. Driving through Pittsfield is always a nightmare because the drivers are so careless. Driving through Pittsfield in bad weather is even worse. But it will work out. If I need to drive like the little old lady from Pasadena, that’s what I will do.
I will miss the library meeting and the library cohort meeting tonight, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. I’ve been there quite steadily, so missing a meeting here and there isn’t a tragedy for any of us. I always let them know ahead of time.
I hope you have a lovely Thursday!

That Time of Year
It is that time of year again. The time where my loyal readers (all zero of you) start getting inundated with posts where I say something like, just you watch… tomorrow I’m going to go to the ocean and take pics of the sunrise.
I haven’t taken a photo-walk or anything like that since last August. Eight months. I have the day off tomorrow and the forecast calls for clear skies at sunrise. Let’s do this!
The way this works is… I say I am going to go to the ocean to take pics of the sunrise the next day, and then the next day arrives and I stay in bed. That’s how these things usually go. Will that be the case this time?
Probably.

This week is particularly intense. Next week will be even worse, with electricians all over the house rewiring the system, meaning long power outages during the day.
But the sun is out and I feel like being outdoors. I think I'll take a nice break in nature shortly, before lunch.
After all, today in Ferrara is a public holiday. -
So, this is a pan around the bedroom, starting from opposite the door and moving anti-clockwise, and finishing with a pan over the bed.

So why is all my stuff in one room?
Kinda a why not, it'll help me judge how much space I'll need when I downsize. There is more, but not much more, a record player and stand in the living room, along with a futon and coffee table, plus also a dining table. Not sure I care about those last three though. The big thing this shows is how little of me was in here.I've not really talked about it before or after my husband passed, but we had a kinda dysfunctional relationship, and I'd been mulling over what to do about it, though financially leaving wasn't exactly something I could do. I kinda took care of making sure bills got paid and things worked, he wasn't much into that. I don't mean he was poor, I mean going through things here I found a letter from his dad saying he was helping him out one last time from back in the 90s. This wasn't new, I took over household finances because he'd pay bills if'n he remembered, and balancing accounts was something he didn't bother with, not fun to be the room mate of someone like that. When money was tight, since I've never really had the ability to get attached to people, places or things, I'd cut back, sell my stuff, whatever was needed, and he… Well, didn't
Don't get me wrong, I like having things to do, I've never really had any hobbies, never really got into sports or show or anything, so taking care of bills, cleaning and keeping moving along was good, but the lack of help got tiring after a while with little help, if I was lucky he'd promise, but changes would last maybe a month if'n I was lucky. The end result of putting the house and him ahead of me was practically a case of this being Vik's house and me living here, not quite that bad, but as you can see, the reason I have so much to get rid of here is because Vik was constantly buying things, so much so that we have a 1500 square foot house, and almost everything I have can fit in the master bedroom. Kinda makes the downsizing plan make sense, no?
Trying to sell the bed, a queen is too big for one person. I do think the twinXL is a touch too small, and there is a fullXL which might be a better fit, but I imagine mattresses, beds and bedding are hard to get for that, I mean how often do you hear full size being mentioned? Kids, teens and college students get twin or twinXL, adults queen and king, full size is just sorta the oddball. We'll sort that out, for now I just bought a cheap bed so I can test out the TXL and see if'n it'll work. I did have fun getting a pair of kids bed sets, comforter, sheets, etc, you can see the pillows on the bed, just because I'm old doesn't mean I have to get boring bedding after all.
So what does the future bring?
Not sure, once the estate is sorted and I downsize, I'm likely to have a lot of time on my hands and no real use for it, that'll have to be fixed. I am thinking of getting into 3D printing, as much as a business as a hobby, I wanna make MLP bat pony gargoyles for example if for no other reason than I want one. Also might finally get caught up on my reading, but then that's been neglected simply because I've not been motivated.I guess I need to finally figure out who I am and what I want even though its a bit late for that.

Waning Moon
Cloudy and cool
It may be cloudy and cool now, but it’s supposed to get up into the 80’s F later this week, and then drop back to the 50’s F next week. Good opportunity to oil the teak furniture!
The Community Tarot Reading for the Week is here.
This week, I hope to take advantage of the astrological energies of sustainable building. We have all this Aries go-go-go energy, but Saturn in Aries and Jupiter in Cancer encourage taking action for long-term stability. I mean, in this state of the world, there’s no such thing really, but we do what we can. The morning routine of yoga – meditation – free write sets a firm foundation for me for the day, letting me meet it with a clear head and a sense of purpose. Now I want to build on that with other habits that support and streamline the work, without making me feel trapped by overly-tight scheduling that just makes me feel resentful and sabotage myself. I want flexibility when necessary, but without feeling guilty if I have to change something because things have to change.
In other words, I’m working on a structure that is strong, but can sway in the winds of life without breaking.
This week, I’m not running around all that much, except for a panel with WAM tomorrow afternoon. I am head-down-working for most of the week. Next weekend, I will nip down to the gallery on Saturday to support my friend’s event, and then teach my own on Sunday. The following two weeks are very tightly packed, and then it should level out a little again. So I will frontload this week as much as I can, so I’m not overwhelmed when it gets busier.
I had hoped to read my friend’s book this weekend, but didn’t manage it. So that will be my treat in the coming days when I get things done.
I need to finish the pitch for my Llewellyn editor today and get it off latest by tomorrow (although I will try to get it done today), work on BETTING MAN, work on the ghostwriting, finish up two reviews and get them out the door, and work on contest entries. I will head down to the post office at some point this morning and get our tax returns hand-cancelled (no, I do not file them online, and no, I will not do so). Getting them out the door during the waning moon seems fitting, somehow.
Have a great week, and we’ll have our long catch-up tomorrow.
