CW: "The Book of Dust" by Philip Pullman
Philip Pullman started his saga with a well-aimed arrow at CS Lewis and the heavy-handed biblical parody of the Narnia series. The BBC compared him to Lewis' pal Tolkien, which Pullman also rejected.
At the end of "The Rose Field" I got strong vibes of Madeleine L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time". I will revisit it and see how well it resonates in that context.
