Se oli lopulta helppoa: aloitetaan päivitys vahingossa komennolla ”zypper up” (eikä ”zypper dup”), keskeytetään se hätäpäissään Ctrl-C:llä latausvaiheessa ja yritetään sitten antaa oikea komento. Kun useampi kymmenen ratkaistavaa ongelmaa oli zypper minulle esittänyt, annoin periksi. Jyrään koko osion ja asennan siihen muuta. #Debian minulla ykköskäyttis onkin. #linux #FLOSS #atkjuttuja

I found a weird quirk when switching DEs on openSUSE Tumbleweed: if I logout and try to login to another DE after being logged into another one. It does not allow me to log into the other one. I need to reboot every time in order to login to a different DE. This behavior only manifested after the GNOME 50 Update dropped...
This is a mild inconvenience, as my boot times are so fast, I often don't notice when I get back into a log-in screen.
There is probably a solution for this issue (as this is a new behavior).
I might have to switch away from GNOME, likely back up all my stuff and install openSUSE Tumbleweed with a different DE.

In case anyone is wondering what caused my recent rant, I just did a fresh install of #OpenSuseSlowroll - basically, it's a delayed rolling release. It's like #OpenSuseTumbleweed except the updates come monthly instead of more or less constantly. The idea is to strike a balance between the sometimes unstable Rolling Release model and the sometimes out of date Fixed Release or "Stable" model.
Anyway, I used the new Agama Live ISO. It's well laid out, and while not quite as user friendly as Calamares, it's more powerful without being overwhelming. It's also *fast* which I love.
That said…
During install, you go in and pick, say, Gnome Desktop Environment, Multimedia, and Office Software, plus Base System and Enhanced Base System, the YaST utilities (OpenSuse's magnificent suite of system management tools), and other minimal options.

I decided to make the switch to #arch #linux because I wanted to give it a try, and my existing #opensusetumbleweed install had been around for almost two years and was getting quite cluttered. (Plus I had a windows dual boot I was no longer using)
I opted to use archinstall after testing a manual install in a VM, and found it quite painless. I've now gotten most everything I use regularly up and running again! (although I'm sure I'll immediately find stuff I forgot)
