My mother is beginning testing a #linuxmint laptop as her daily driver while taking notes about issues. It's been 4 days and I haven't received a call about any issues.I finally killed the dragon and got windows off the new gaming lappy and got #pop_os installed successfully and relatively smoothly. HAving to access the bios form within Windows via recovery because the BIOS was locked out from boot (F12 failed to work) to turn off Secure UEFI was the biggest fight.
Getting the apps set up so far has been smooth. I need to do a little more with some technical side apps for video capture and editing on there.
I need to check in with my buddy rocking the #cachyOS box used for lighter gaming (stock business desktop graphics from 3 years ago) and internet browsing and see how that's going.
There is good forward progress.

I can load up any other gaming Linux. This won’t run. I picked the appropriate hardware config. And it won’t run. Two different usb sticks, it won’t even be read. #ubuntu #linuxmint #pop_os #NobaraLinux just work. But not Bazzite. Not on a recycled computer. Not on a brand new gaming laptop.Lesson learned. Ich bin an Linux Mint & Fedora gewöhnt. Beides OS, die unauffällig im Hintergrund laufen. Ab & an probiere ich neue Linux-OS auf meinem alten Laptop aus. Heute war es PopOS, weil ich den Cosmic-Desktop hübsch finde. Hübsch ist er, doch obwohl PopOS auf Ubuntu aufbaut, war es ein sehr instabiles Erlebnis mit vielen eingefrorenen Bildschirmen, inkonsistenten Icons & nicht mehr zurück finden zu den ursprünglichen Konfigurationen.

#linux #pop_os #COSMICDesktop is breaking me. You can't even hold control to drag and drop copy files in their file browser. This needs more time in the oven sorry. It's definitely snappy! But I guess that's not hard when you rip out so much functionality

Wayland is pretty quick on @system76 's Cosmic desktop. Faster. I did lose a bunch of xdotool custom keyboard shortcuts, but wtype works fine as a substitute. If you update, screenshot and save your shortcuts first, so you can rebuild 'em.

Except they have videos about all of #Debian, #Mint, #ChachyOS, #Pop_os ... whatever.
And I'm like: Dude, you are telling me about all these things, but at the same time it's so superficial (of course...) it smells like you haven't even figured what *you* like and why.

I use #AlmaLinux 8 on bare meta, and #CentOS 7 and #RockyLinux 9 VM's on Windows, #RHEL 7 in data center VM's, Rocky Linux 8 cloud containers, and occasionally, Rocky Linux 9 containers in the *EL VM's on Windows. I don't actually like *EL or Windows OS's, but my employer does. At home I use #NixOS, #Rasbian and occasionally #Pop_OS.

Update on buying a #Linux #computer. Pulled the trigger last night on ordering a #System76 #Pangolin #laptop. #AMDRyzen9 96GB of RAM (probably overkill) and two internal 4TB SSDs. Did get the 3-year warranty in case I need it. Did set it to come with #Pop_OS to try it out but might choose a different distro if I don’t like it. Excited to leave the #Apple ecosystem, though.
