It's funny how Unity was absolutely slammed when it came out and now people are coming around to it long after Canonical abandoned it. Saw someone on #Bluesky saying it was attractive.

I downloaded #UbuntuUnity 24.04 to test in #VirtualBox but, I just have not got around to it. I really enjoyed the #Unity #Desktop, it had some great features like the HUD & lenses. Plus, it was actually pretty good with the keyboard and amazing at reducing mouse travel. #FOSS is amazing since the community now keeps it alive at https://ubuntuunity.org/ but, without commercial backing, I don't think it can create new features & tech on its own just adapt it from other desktop environments #Ubuntu

خوبی #UbuntuUnity تازه اینه که اولین نسخهٔ با پشتیبانی بلندمدتی هست که روی زیرساخت پروژهٔ #اوبونتو منتشر شده و اعتماد بهش آسونتره. و خب #یونیتی هم که حرفی برای گفتن باقی نمیگذاره.

@eroc1990 Sort of but they ship with their own desktop environment. I like Ubuntu's Gnome desktop with the Ubuntu extension. That or the Unity interface that #UbuntuUnity recently brought back from the dead.
Honestly, I haven't tested Pop!_OS in a couple of years now so maybe I should give it another go.

Over the years I have used many #linux desktop environments: #kde #Xfce, #cinnamon, #UbuntuUnity, #Gnome 2 and 3...
Without shame I admit that I love point-and-click. Gnome 44 on my #Fedora 38 laptop is just a beautiful smooth mouse-based experience.
What are your thoughts on desktop environments for keyboard-lazy users?

My #3 #laptop is this heckin chonker of an absolute unit, a HP Pavilion dv7 from 2009 or so. It's been with me for a very long time, as the battle scars would attest. I got this from my sister as a hand-me-down after my 2006 MacBook died suddenly. It was the first computer I ever successfully installed #Linux on, #ubuntu 12.04 as a matter of fact. So that's why I'm gonna be installing classic #ubuntuunity on it tonight... (well, if the nvidia graphics drivers don't give me a hard time.)

Finally figured out why #AppImages weren't opening on my new #UbuntuUnity installation. Turns out the libfuse2 package was missing, even though the @itsfoss instructions were for #Ubuntu 22.04. 🤔
That's my main headache over though, with this installation, which I'm happy about. 🙂

That was a good bit of time spent. Finally got #Flatpak working on my new #UbuntuUnity install, now just have to figure out why #AppImages aren't working!
