Bcachefs 1.38 fixes mount stalls, improves discard handling, and speeds up snapshot-heavy systems with journal and allocator changes.

In my mind, every time I read #bcachefs, I'm always pronouncing it as B-C-A-Chefs instead of B-Cache-FS.
This, unfortunately, cannot stop

Haven't looked at this since I broke it. There really isn't any way to recover that #filesystem or files is there?
Most of my files were backed up one way or another. I'm sure I'm losing some things, but shouldn't be anything too important or critical, luckily.
I suppose this is an opportunity to redo the hard drive all together and maybe it's time I tried something other than #ext4. I don't think I would use #bcachefs tho, so I suppose that only leaves #zfs. Idk, need to do some reading.

Yet another Linux filesystem creator loses his mind. This time to AI psychosis https://www.theregister.com/2026/02/25/bcachefs_creator_ai/

So apparently the filesystem bcachefs is meant to be read B Cache FS and not the delicious sounding BCA Chefs that I've been calling it #bcachefs

The #bcachefs Situation is crazy!
A claude code instance got convinced it is sentient. The developer of bcachefs, Kent Overstreet thinks it is, just because it can reason and pretend to be intelligent.
Later, the chatbot comes out as trans and lesbian. -

😳🥺😞 y tho?
#BcacheFS was on my docket, but with all the drama in the kernel mailing list and being kicked out by @torvalds from the kernel dev tree - after many, many reprieves and much leeway - I thought: "hey, it's not the first out of tree kernel module I've used". But then, this.
Can somebody send him to therapy please?

:headache: Another opensource hero going through a full psychotic meltdown thx to AI.
It's so sad to witness this, but even sadder how normalized it has become.

Linus Torvalds hat durchblicken lassen, die experimentelle Unterstützung für das noch junge #Dateisystem #Bcachefs bei #Linux6.17 entfernen zu wollen. Ob es tatsächlich so kommt, bleibt noch abzuwarten;

#Linux 6.18 Will Further Complicate Non-#GPL Out-Of-Tree #FileSystems
A patch queued up for Linux 6.18 merge window removes #write_cache_pages. In turn this will cause issues for #nonGPL out-of-tree file-systems for writing dirty data from the page cache. After the #NTFS3 and #Bcachefs in-tree users of the iterator were moved off of it, for Linux 6.18 the "write_cache_pages" will be removed that is depended upon by out-of-tree, non-GPL file-systems.

Ohai, that instantly worked on the first reboot attempt 😳👏🏼
Cool, so now I have #Fedora booting with #systemdboot from #BCacheFS with the root and home each in it's own subvolumes. 🥳
-
Ok, first attempt I did now, was the root being directly on the top of the bcachefs partition. 💁🏼
Works fine using #systemdboot after adding bcachefs to the initramfs filesystems and disabling #selinux.
Next thing is: I want to have my root and home each in subvolumes. Atm this ends in an emergency shell where I have to do two bind mounts, then it boots up just fine.
I'll try to work around that with a script hooked in before the switch_root happens 🤔 -

#Bcachefs #Btrfs #EXT4 #F2FS & #XFS #FileSystem Performance On Linux 6.15.
When taking the geometric mean of all the file-systems tested, XFS was by far the fastest with this testing on #Linux 6.15 and using a Crucial T705 #NVMe PCIe 5.0 SSD. With each file-system at its defaults, XFS was 20% faster than F2FS as the next fastest file-system. EXT4 and Btrfs meanwhile were tied for third. Bcachefs out-of-the-box on this PCIe 5 SSD was in a distant last place on Linux 6.15 Git.
