Green vinylA bright, beautiful Saturday afternoon, and I’m keeping it cheerful with this masterpiece.
Just a continuation of the inordinate amount of Mort Garson I’ve been listening to lately.
I also have an original pressing of this, WITH the book included, and with the original sticker of the mattress store that gave them away when you bought a new mattress.
I try not to listen to my OG TOO often, but this reissue sounds great regardless.
Just a masterpiece.

Didn’t You Hear?
2020 U.S. reissueI’ve been doing a DEEP dive of Mort Garson lately, & I knew I was gonna save this for last.
Touted as the first “completely electronic film score”, this was originally released in 1970, only available in the lobby of the Seattle movie theatre where it was first screened.
Sacred Bones did a great job of remastering this from the original tapes, & those who have been looking for it all these years will be very happy that it’s finally available & sounding great.This is pre-Plantasia Mort, & it sounds like a mix of what he usually does, crossed with John Carpenter if he was drunk & at his synthesizer.
I could easily hear some of this shit being in Halloween, The Thing, or Escape From New York.A quick note on the actual movie:
It’s AWFUL.
And features a young Gary Busey.

An Electronic Odyssey
1968 Canada pressingA truly bizarre and twisted gem.
I’ve been digging into a lot of Mort Garson lately, and I pulled this out of a box I had in my basement this morning, totally unaware that I had it.
The music on this album was composed and executed by Garson, but the whole project is conceived and written by Jacques Wilson.
It trippily re-imagines the 1939 film The Wizard Of Oz, but sets the story in the #psychedelic 60’s, giving all the characters a hippie identity.
Dorothy is an acid-head flower child seeking the “far-out” and “where it’s at”.It’s all quite hysterical and ridiculous, but Garson’s music is the PERFECT backdrop for what’s going on. By this point, Garson had MASTERED the Moog #synth , and these was nothing he couldn’t do with it.
A really wild and entertaining record.

Mort Garson was a genius.
Although he’s most known for his PLANTASIA album, his entire discography is just stellar.THIS is super-fun.
It compiles the soundtrack to the 1974 blaxploitation film BLACK EYE, as well as some unearthed (and unused) pieces of music created for various advertisements.There’s also a few pieces from a 1970 National Geographic special (the album opener “Zoos Of The World”), but the most captivating stuff here is Garson’s soundtrack to the live 1969 broadcast of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
It’s friggin GLORIOUS.Load up your bongs, man.
It’s time to go to space.Just an awesome and totally unique collection.
Also came with a huge poster and pamphlet for all of the Mort merch via Sacred Bones.

I captured one of the Signs Of The Zodiac releases, Aries, from a reel-to-reel 7.5 IPS release. Unfortunately this capture is both flawed and incomplete, however the quality is very nice despite the flaws.
