From 2007: "This is several exposures of hedges near PSU. I don't remember how many in a row I shot, but they are lined up equidistant & I tried to catch each from roughly the same distance. Only the last one had the pole directly in front of it. It becomes quite ghostly."

The day had started well. A gentle wind scented with verdant greenery stirred my hair. Bright violets bloomed along my path, mingling with yellow buttercups and brilliant orange poppies. Thrushes and titmice flitted in the #hedges. It was truly the kind of day where wandering the byways was a goddess-given blessing.

So wondrous was the day that I didn’t even mind the occasional burr that attached itself to my mage’s robes or the dense foliage that forced me to walk. The moss-covered path was easy on my feet. The occasional brook sang to me. Butterflies as bright as the star brooch of my profession delighted my eyes.

Started cutting the daft ammount of hedging. I always try to do it manually as I find the quiet snip snipping quite centering and post long covid I can only do stuff in small bursts and a pair of clippers is minimal setup (I know I could get a battery powered electric but hey).
Already I've hit the usual bonus. Passers by and neighbours stop to chat as I clip clip away. It really is a bigger reward than exhausting myself with big electric clippers and ear defenders. I'm quite good at small talk. It's the longer conversations where I probably struggle more.
I'm not the only old schooler hedge cutting wise.
A much older neighbour down the road cuts his hedge by hand too though he hasn't got this vastness of hedge.

#Cotoneaster #berries. They're similar to firethorn plants but are thornless with serated leaf margins. Their flowers & fruits are toxic for humans but have excellent #WildlifeValue.
These are #larval food plants for several insects. Their flowers attract many #pollinators. Their fruits are eaten by multiple birds - blackbirds especially love eating these berries in Winter.
It's been cultivated by landscapers for wildlife value & soil erosion prevention. It's grown in many public & private areas around here - I see it almost everywhere. Birds have spread their seeds afar.

I don't know which variety of cotoneaster this is - there are a lot of varieties.
