I'm not giving up on a pure analog signal path, but this confirms my worst fear:

"The shift to digital processing in vinyl production began in 1979 when Ampex released their ADD-1 Digital Delay. This device, built specifically for vinyl cutting, soon became standard equipment in mastering studios across the globe."

They cite one and only one at-time-of-writing holdout; there must be more!

Hi to all, I updated the page about the #RevoxB77 mk II on my home site. I studyed the effect of the popular mod that consists in replacing the original fixed roller on the right tape guide with a ball bearing. The results seem marginally better with the original factory configuration, though.

I used my reel to reel recorder as a tape delay in Soupçons, you can hear it in the drum machine track at the very beginning (further processed via a bandpass filter driven almost to self oscillate and a chorus). I created a tape loop that was quite flimsy and the imperfections added a lot to the character 😍#ReelToReel #MusicProduction #AnalogAudio #RevoxB77

I intend to gift some of my friends the walkman cassette players, since i already gifted them some tapes. I managed to find a pack of three players from the 90s for 25€. All need new belts and two of them had completely trusted battery pins. However after putting new pins, all of them work (at last the radio does). The sound is clear and the lcd displays work as well. Now i need to get those replacement belts 🥰

Ortofon Blue cartridge mounted and aligned! My biggest fear of snapping the wire from the connector has been averted. Note tiny needle nose pliers are a must. But there’s a new complication… My tone arm counterweight is now too light so I can’t set tracking force. Hoping a 10g larger weight will solve the problem. I think today is the day I attempt to repplace/upgrade the cartridge/stylus on our turntable. In principle, seems simple enough... couple of screws and couple of wires. However, I hear the wire connectors are notiously fragile and I've never aligned a cartridge. I have the required protractor and a dozen how-to web pages. Gonna need to hold my breath and just begin.

Holy cow! I received some #SM900 magnetic #tape from #RTM. I previously used the #LPR90 that is similar (but thinner). The SM900 can yield a higher signal, so as a result, the noise is kept quite low during playback. I tried it with a new album I'm preparing in this moment and with 2-track at 15 ips, the results are astounding, even without noise reduction 😎 #AnalogAudio #RevoxB77

I printed and laminated a label for the #RevoxB77 remote control. I like the result 😍 I still have to wire the varispeed circuit. However it was not trivial to build a connector for the #recorder originally an unobtanium Hirschmann WIST-9. I #3Dprinted a support, then put pins taken from DIN connectors. I'm very interested to learn if someone is able to listen to some artifacts or not. By the way, I inspected the inside of the #dbx150x unit I got and it is a nice sandwich construction. 😍 #AnalogAudio

I received the #dbx150x type I #noise reduction system. I had to import it from USA as I couldn’t find one in Europe at a decent price. I tried recording some tracks with it on the #RevoxB77 and I couldn’t distinguish them from the originals. It is clearly the best analog audio quality I have ever listened to 😍 I didn’t notice any “pumping” artefact some people complain about dealing with #dbx. It’s incredible. #AnalogAudio
