The #DeltaChat server that I was using seems to have stopped working for receiving messages, which sucks 😞 but such is the nature of decentralisation 🤷
It's really easy just to start a new account on a new server - so that's not really a problem - but I'm lucky that I only have one contact that message on the app because "re-adding" people isn't super straight forward. 🤔

I use Wire. I switched years ago. Canada's DND, the German govt, amnesty international and other countries, militaries and major NGO's use Wire. It is free for personal use and cross platform. Get it from your app store.

Good news for anyone tired of online scams! WhatsApp is adding screen-sharing warnings, and Messenger is deploying AI to detect suspicious messages. Are these new features truly effective, or will scammers just find new workarounds?

Admit it, you've almost (or actually) sent that 'highly confidential' meme to your boss instead of your friends. Good news! iOS 26 is apparently rolling out custom backgrounds for Messages to prevent such digital faux pas. Is this the feature we truly needed, or just more shiny pixels?

I see a lot of people talk about XMPP like it is/was amazing and would still be a viable alternative to discord/slack/matrix/ect. I’ve heard it’s decentralized and I see a lot of clients out there but I don’t see any servers. Am I missing something? Are there only a handful of obscure servers out there? Can an XMPP server be self-hosted? Does XMPP only need clients? I am unfamiliar with the protocol and how it is used.

Signal Rejects AI and Ads, Distinguishing Itself from WhatsApp
#Advertising #artificialintelligence #messagingapps #signal #whatsapp

#WhatsApp has introduced channels, music in status etc. and has made WhatsApp into another social media and less of a mainstream #messenger.
👿 The bad:
• It is targeting people who are not on social media to be hooked.
• I feel there's a possibility of WhatsApp removing encryption in future , now that its even less serious form of messenger.
😈 The good:
• It seems to be so distractive and cluttered that it makes #signal , #simplex and other #floss options more attractive.

⚠️ App security alert: TM SGNL — a custom Signal fork used by high-level U.S. officials — was reportedly hacked 📱🔓
Key findings via researchers:
🛠️ Hardcoded credentials found in the app’s source code
📥 Hacker claims to have breached TeleMessage (creator of TM SGNL) in minutes
📁 Archive server may store unencrypted copies of sensitive messages
📇 Leaked data includes government contacts, messages, and backend access🚨 Why it matters:
🔐 TM SGNL modifies Signal to support message archiving — possibly before encryption
⚠️ That’s a potential plaintext vulnerability — even if E2EE is in place
💬 Raises urgent questions about how U.S. officials handle sensitive digital comms🛡️ Security leaders should:
📱 Vet third-party forks of secure messaging apps rigorously
🚫 Avoid using unofficial tools for sensitive communication
🧾 Align secure messaging practices with compliance and cybersecurityThis incident isn’t just a breach — it’s a wake-up call about assuming encryption = security.
