Introduction Situated to the south of the Outer Cape and Lower Cape areas is the Middle Cape area, representative of the portion of Barnstable County closest to Nantucket Island and containing Monomoy Point at the southern end. #EPA weighing controversial #geoengineering #ocean experiment south of #MarthasVineyard
Scientists await approval to release a 6,600-gallon mixture of sodium hydroxide solution and freshwater into the open ocean 10m SW of Martha’s Vineyard in a first-of-its-kind trial. If that test goes well, next summer scientists would conduct an experiment 10 times the first amount — 66,000 gallons — into #WilkinsonBasin, a deepwater section of #GulfofMaine.

Two more #NewEngland #offshorewind farms just got the all-clear
#Avangrid (NYSE: $AGR) now has full federal approval of the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) for the New England Wind 1 and 2 offshore #windfarms.
The two offshore wind farms would be approximately 20 nautical miles south of #MarthasVineyard, #Massachusetts, and about 24 nm southwest of #Nantucket, Massachusetts. The COP includes up to 129 #windturbines.

"A research flight made 161 sightings of seven different species of #whales on May 25 south of #MarthasVineyard and southeast of #Nantucket... The sightings included 93 of #SeiWhales, and that is one of the highest concentrations of the rare whale during a single flight... There were also endangered North Atlantic #RightWhales as well as humpback, fin, minke and #SpermWhales"

#NewEngland to become the second #coal-free region in the #US. That’s following a settlement between #SierraClub, The Conservation Law Foundation (#CLF), #EPA, and #GraniteShorePower. Retiring #coal plant #SchillerStation, will host a #solar and battery storage system.
