This evening, I got into the #Nintendo #Switch for the first time in years. Actually, it was my sister's Switch 2 after I mistook it for the original family Switch. As such, I skimmed through Nintendo's (obviously) since updated #EULA. Let's just say it's a sober reminder that we own little to nothing in today's age of #gaming, yet scrupulous players like me just cannot bring ourselves to downloading unauthorized copies of things still being sold. At least I own my Fedora computer in whole.

Gamers, I think we have reached a point of no return. With physical media disappearing and developers forcing ever more burdensome Digital Restrictions Management upon us, while also quietly censoring or yanking things we allegedly "own", I doubt I will ever buy another console again for as long as I live. At least my Fedora computer does not come with strings attached.

I am beginning to think that #Nintendo has become a bad influence on gaming. Yes, its games are good, but I am only now realizing this is a company that litigates aggressively on copyright matters, kills off support for its old games so that it can resell them virtually unchanged on new consoles, and expects us to abide by its tedious #EULA or risk bricking our devices. So ask yourselves this: are you playing the game, or is Nintendo playing you?

I just came across a tool to download+decrypt #windevine content.
Interesting in theory but looks abandoned.
What I find very interesting though is that it comes with a #EULA that summarises to "don't pirate" – presumably to keep the lawyers at bay. The code is licensed under #GPLv3 however.
Little known GPLv3 fact: If the software you received has "further restrictions" placed upon it, it grants you the explicit permission to remove them!
I would like to coin this tactic "#DMCA-condom" ;D

When a company ends support for the last version of a given #software product compatible with any subset of the supported #hardware, or ends support for a given software product altogether, or ends support for a software-controlled hardware product, the warranty #disclaimer, limitation of #liability, indemnity, and related #EULA terms should be deemed without force or effect regarding any future harms resulting from software defects unless the company releases all information and legal permissions necessary for arbitrary independent parties to patch those defects and distribute and install those patches.
Either release the complete and corresponding source code (including any keys necessary to install or run a compiled version) with a license to make and distribute fixes, or fix your up stuff forever, or face unlimited liability for the consequences of your refusal to fix or allow fixing.

No streaming disservices or prerequisites. Even pre-Microsoft Minecraft, in retrospect, was a relief from signing expansive EULA agreements and possibly trading off privacy for the product. Those days are worth returning to.

Malware as we know it is obviously detrimental to the user and their computer, but how "malware" is defined is so narrow that it overlooks how willing developers of "legitimate" proprietary software—including video games—are willing to mistreat their customers. Antivirus software has become practically a joke. At least I know #Luanti respects my privacy, unlike Microsoft #Minecraft.

2b2t should be held accountable by the people not a faceless corporation. Microsoft isn't punishing 2b2t to fight fascism, they likely wont even do anything about this. But even if they do it will be a worrying development that microsoft has legal control over a server you run on your own hardware with your own money
This is why I play Mineclonia on Luanti because its a FLOSS project the project has no technical ability to prevent you from running a server, I have a server with a friend, most minecraft features are implemented and its very fun for us.
Reminder that microsoft bans servers/mods that put guns or adult content into the game according to their EULA, and is currently being sued for unenforceable terms of the EULA

Dovolil jsem si v rámci experimentu zažádat o refund #scam hry #GloryToTheHeroes, protože mi to přišlo jako výbornej test customer service Nintenda.
14 dní si s nima dopisuju po e-mailu, aby mi 4 dny zpátky řekli, že prověří, jestli je to scam. Dneska bez dalších detailů "na vaši žádost sereme, v #EULA je uvedeno, že co se dá, to se nevydá!".
Za tenhle přístup bych jim joycony narval do nosu a #Switch vrátil...

Immagina di leggere , affitta al posto di acquista …. Poi se vuoi procedi. Ma sappi che quella licenza la possono revocare quando vogliono oppure cambiare retro attivamente le clausole e tu non puoi fare nulla. #stopdestroyingvideogames #supportofisico
