Klikając przycisk zakupu w cyfrowym sklepie, większość z nas jest przekonana, że nabywa dany produkt na własność. Nic bardziej mylnego.
Sony właśnie przypomina swoim klientom, że wirtualne półki to w rzeczywistości tylko drogie wypożyczalnie. Z kont użytkowników PlayStation masowo znikają opłacone filmy, co obnaża słabości cyfrowej dystrybucji.
Znikające klasyki i licencje z datą ważności
Sony rozpoczęło wysyłkę maili do użytkowników PlayStation w Wielkiej Brytanii oraz części Europy z informacją, że 1 września 2026 roku z ich bibliotek wyparuje 551 filmów i seriali z dystrybucji StudioCanal. Co ważne, mówimy o tytułach, za które gracze zapłacili pełną kwotę w PlayStation Store. Na liście przeznaczonej do skasowania znalazły się takie głośne produkcje jak „Terminator 2: Judgment Day”, „Dziennik Bridget Jones”, „Apocalypse Now” czy „Rambo”.
Komunikat producenta jest lakoniczny. Firma nie oferuje żadnych zwrotów pieniędzy ani form rekompensaty za utracone treści. Niefortunnym zbiegiem okoliczności – co szybko wyłapali oburzeni klienci – oficjalne wiadomości o usunięciu dostępu do filmów kończą się firmowym sloganem „Play Has No Limits” (Gra nie ma granic), który w tym kontekście brzmi jak nieśmieszny żart.
Cyfrowa własność to rynkowa iluzja
Sytuacja ta nie jest wynikiem luki w prawie, lecz standardem, na który zgadzamy się podczas akceptacji wielostronicowych regulaminów. Zapisy w PlayStation Store – podobnie jak na platformach Steam, Xbox, Apple czy Amazon – precyzują, że użytkownik nie kupuje filmu, a jedynie licencję na dostęp do niego.
Prawo do odtwarzania treści obowiązuje tylko tak długo, jak długo operator platformy (w tym przypadku Sony) posiada podpisaną umowę z zewnętrznym dystrybutorem. Gdy kontrakt wygasa, cyfrowe pliki stają się bezużyteczne, a dostęp zostaje odcięty. Stanowi to kontrast w stosunku do nośników fizycznych, takich jak Blu-ray czy DVD, których nikt zdalnie nie usunie z naszej domowej kolekcji.
Powtórka z rozrywki, do której musimy przywyknąć
Obecne zamieszanie w Wielkiej Brytanii nie jest precedensem w wykonaniu japońskiego giganta. Sony wykonało identyczny ruch w 2022 roku, usuwając tytuły StudioCanal z kont użytkowników w Niemczech i Austrii. Z kolei próba wygaszenia dostępu do opłaconych programów stacji Discovery w USA została częściowo odroczona wyłącznie dzięki masowemu buntowi konsumentów.
To zjawisko to branżowy standard i jasny sygnał ostrzegawczy dla wszystkich, którzy budują swoje biblioteki wyłącznie w zamkniętych ekosystemach pojedynczych korporacji. Problem znikających licencji będzie powracał, o ile klienci nie zaczną częściej głosować portfelem na powrót do nośników fizycznych.
