On avait dit qu’on publierait les sources KiCad et FreeCAD du #Quacken après avoir livré le premier lot, on a deux semaines de retard, désolé ! On a eu des imprévus sur le #QuackMatrix, qu’il a fallu traiter en urgence.

Nota : les sources de la version 25.10 présentée au CdL2025 étaient en ligne depuis novembre 2025, et ce modèle est fonctionnel (je l’utilise en ce moment même) — mais uniquement en monobloc. Il nous a fallu trois protos supplémentaires avant de parvenir à faire fonctionner le mode split (25.11, 25.12, 26.01), c’est ce qui a causé tant de retard dans le projet.

En achetant le Quacken auprès des Ergonautes vous nous aidez à proposer des claviers à bas prix (magie de l’achat groupé) et vous participez au financement des protos des autres projets (#QMx2040 par exemple), mais n’hésitez pas à construire votre Quacken vous-mêmes à partir de ces sources ! Ou, mieux : personnalisez-le, améliorez-le, et partagez vos modifications avec la communauté (#GPLv3).

I just came across a tool to download+decrypt #windevine content.

Interesting in theory but looks abandoned.

What I find very interesting though is that it comes with a #EULA that summarises to "don't pirate" – presumably to keep the lawyers at bay. The code is licensed under #GPLv3 however.

Little known GPLv3 fact: If the software you received has "further restrictions" placed upon it, it grants you the explicit permission to remove them!

I would like to coin this tactic "#DMCA-condom" ;D

Can someone please go back to the last OSS source of #DuckStation and #Fork it? The maintainer/developer is doing many things that are questionably legal at best. (I am not a Lawyer, but I'm pretty sure you need more than a text change to change the license lol)

Like Relicensing #GPLv3 to #CC-BY-NC-ND among other things.

They're also being actively hostile to people packaging their Incorrectly Licensed Open Source Software.

So what exactly constitutes "prominent notices stating that you modified it, and giving a relevant date" for #GPLv3 code?

For example, I'm working on a personal project and writing licensing it under the GPLv3. If I want to take and modify a single function (or a few) from another GPLv3-licened projected, how do I state the modifications and the date? Do git commits count? What exactly do I need to do?

Have the open source and open data communities, including organizations like the @eff, @creativecommons, or the @fsf, given any thought yet to updating various #FOSS and other licenses to address the current #SaaS problem of code or data that isn't necessarily being "redistributed," allowing these companies to dodge the obligation to contribute changes back upstream? How about the privatization and unauthorized commercialization of material licensed under the #GPLv3 and #FDL, #CreativeCommons licenses, and other open-license content that is often scooped up regardless of licensing into #AI #datasets that are then put behind #paywalls?

To me, this seems very similar to the #Tivoization problem that led to the evolution of #GPLv2 to #GPLv3. It seems wrong that #OpenAI or #GitHub_Copilot can profit by putting licensed code, writing, or other data into a walled garden where even the original contributors that they rely on are charged for access.

I'm not anti-business. If these companies were at least making the data sets freely available, there's nothing intrinsically wrong with making value-added profit off of properly-licensed data, although examples like CC-BY-NC 4.0 are a notable exception that should also be considered. Companies like Canonical, Red Hat, IBM, and others have been making money legally off of open source software for decades.

Just because the label "AI" is slapped on something doesn't mean that companies should be allowed to ignore copyrights or licensing terms. If they want to do that, and licensing or requiring free access to open-content data can't prevent this land-grab, perhaps its time we collectively revisit the whole framework around #intellectualproperty that currently allows corporations like #Disney and uncountable #PatentTrolls to create ever-expanding assertions of property rights that prevent almost any material from entering the public domain within a single human lifetime.

The average #EndUser is most likely so #TechIlliterate they'd not even know how to file an issue on #GitHub, much less provide any patches to it.

#GPLv3 harmed #FLOSS as a net negative for being more of an ideological manifesto than a useable license, demanding stuff that goes completely against existing laws and reality (espechally in terms of patents) and basically opened up the floodgates to what I consider "asshole licensing" that solely exists to stifle any competition and enshure said FLOSS can't be freely used. (see #SSPL, which is worse than a CC-BY-NC-SA as it literally has provisions that may not be strictly legal in many juristictions)...

"Freedoms" also don't work if they ain't real choices:
We can't claim people ain't forced to do wagework when not having a job will cause them to get homeless, die from starvation and sickness.

#TechLiteracy is seriously underdeveloped and in fact we see massive amounts of #regression.

The Idea of OS/1337 is to build something that is actually auditable and reproduceable even at the cost of functionality...

Because only the freedoms one can actually exercise against the will of the state are effective!
