  8. Rockstar Issues Statement About GTA 6 Leaks, Apologises For The Wait

When I opened up Rockstar’s official X page and saw an image of a black background and white text, I almost had a heartattacking. Turns out, it isn’t GTA 6 being delayed, it’s an official message from Rockstar about their “heartbreaking” week.

    Advertisements

Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, an individual or group going by Cyberleek has managed to acquire a playable build of GTA 6 and has been posting clips from the game, while asking people to buy cryptocurrently to help support them and their “commandments” which includes trying to save physical games, ending digital pre-orders and getting rid of day-1 DLC that’s already in the game.

    https://twitter.com/RockstarGames/status/2092574304571433078

So far, the gameplay has at least been spoiler free, but after allowing people to vote, it seems that might start changing.

Rockstar has now addressed the whole messy situation.

“We know that many of you have been waiting to hear from us regarding the events of the past week,” says Rockstar. ” It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously now how we intended for you to see the game after all this time.”

Slightly surprisingly, the team also apologised for how long it has taken to get the game ready and to actually show it to the world.

“We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has – from getting the game finished (nearly there!) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know.”

Rockstar points to tomorrow’s “Extended Look” which will debut exclusively on Netflix, another point of contention for fans who are already miffed about the lack of a physical edition and the extra missions being locked behind the Ultimate Edition of the game.

The “extended look” at GTA 6 will be officially available on Youtube 6-hours later, though. Although I expect it will be available about 5-minutes later given the speed of folk on the Internet.

“We want to thank everyone in the community who has reached out with messages of support this week – your words have meant more to this team than you can imagine. Ultimate, we are making this game for you, and without you, we would not have the provilege of making games,” says Rockstar.

There’s still plenty of people who think this is a massive marketing stunt by Rockstar, but that seems highly unlikely because official subpoena requets have been filed for Take-Two against Microsoft and Discord in an effort to find the identity of Cyberleek.

  9. seems that Rockstar going scorched earth on everyone to identify those people, but the funniest part for me is... leakers still haven't released any spoiler moments up to date.

if it was any other game publisher, I'd have actually argued it's a smart PR campaign - but considering what I heard about security protections in Rockstar, and CyberLeek demands - it's so hilarious and I have less empathy for Rockstar lol.

  36. Cyberleek Threatens To Release GTA 6 If They Are Caught

The Grand Theft Auto saga continues to become more tangled and crazy as the days go on. We’re now just 5 days away from the big gameplay debut on Netflix, but apparently if Rockstar manages to catch the leaker/s, we could be days away from GTA 6 being available worldwide.

According to Cyberleek – the group or individual who has some form of playable build of GTA 6 – there is a sort of dead man’s switch in place that stops the stolen build from being released onto the web.

    Advertisements

Cyberleek claims that the game has now been copied to multiple locations around the globe, many of which are out of reach of Take-Two and Rockstar, and that it is ready to release. And in fact, it is apparently set up to release automatically if Cyberleek doesn’t explicitly deny it every 24 hours.

“Every day, CYBERLEEK must choose to cancel its release,” claims the leaker/s. “If it ever misses a morning, the cancellations end on their own.”

The thread is simple then: if Rockstar and Take-Two manage to find Cyberleek and have him arrested, detained or beat up and tossed in a ditch, the build will be released onto the internet, at which point it will be impossible to contain.

“Rockstar’s best move is to tread lightly,” says Cyberleek.

The 10 Best Grand Theft Auto Missions of All Time, Ranked

From disastrous bank robberies and military shootouts to jetpacks, betrayals and an irresponsible number of dead police officers. These are the best missions GTA has to offer.

    by Baden RonieAugust 16, 2026

The timing is important, because Take-Two has filed DMCA subpoenas seeking information from Microsoft and Discord that could help identify Cyberleek.

There are a lot of caveats here to consider, of course. One, we don’t know what build Cyberleek actually has. Word is it’s from around a year ago, but is it the entire game from start to finish, or just a section? If either is released, it isn’t great for Rockstar, but the worst-case scenario is the entire game from start to finish, with the majority of content available and playable.

And there may not be any form of automated system. Hell, there’s still a chance Cyberleek doesn’t have the game and is being sent this stuff by an insider.

    Advertisements

On the other hand, it could be true. In which case, Take-Two has a big choice to make: keep chasing Cyberleek and risk their game being illegally distributed, or give up and let the leaks continue.

At least so far, Cyberleek has refrained from posting story spoilers or anything of that sort, so there is a sort of consideration for the regular gamers. But that’s also kind of weird, as some people have pointed out. Cyberleek has “commandments” it wants to see come to reality, like bringing back physical discs and getting rid of digital pre-orders, but is also content to post fairly mundane stuff so far, like Jason driving around, flying, etc.

There’s even a conspiracy theory that this is a seriously elaborate marketing campaign, although that fell through as soon as Take-Two filed genuine legal documents.

So, by the time you wake up tomorrow, GTA 6 might be right there. Illegally, mind you, but there. What a crazy world we live in.

  38. Take-Two Has Subpoenaed Microsoft & Discord To Help Catch GTA 6 Leaker

Look, the ongoing GTA 6 leak scandal has taken over the news cycle, and every other thing I write seems to be about it. But it’s hard to ignore the biggest current news story in gaming, so here we go: Take-Two, the publisher behind GTA 6, has officially filed DMCA subpoena requests seeking information from Microsoft and Discord to help track down the leaker/s.

    Advertisements

Take-Two is requesting any files and documentation that might help identify Cyberleek, the individual or group who seems to have a playable build of GTA 6, or has someone on the inside supplying them with videos. These requests include access to Xbox accounts, user profiles and anything else potentially linked to Cyberleek.

Take-Two has asked for the data to be handed over by September 4.

Below is a snippet from the request to Microsoft, obtained by Kotaku.

“All identifying information associated with all user accounts that are/were members communicating with the Discord server(s) listed below during the time period from June 1, 2026 to present; and for those accounts, provide any associated device/telemetry records where one or more of the tool/file artifacts below were present on the system. For each returned account, provide: the account ID, registration email, registration and last-login IP addresses, phone number, linked connections (Google/Xbox/etc.), any associated device identifiers (MachineGuid/MSA), and content related to Grand Theft Auto (‘GTA’), Rockstar or Cyberleek from their OneDrive account.”

Microsoft and Discord cannot legally ignore this request, but may also not have to supply everything asked for. They can negotiate the scope, request more time, or ask the court to modify the subpoena if, for example, it is overly broad, unduly burdensome or seeks protected information.

    Advertisements

At first, the leaker appeared to only have footage from the game, perhaps stolen off a server within Rockstar or leaked by an angry employee. But it became clearer that the leak was far bigger when they ended one video by spelling the word “leek” on a wall using a gun. The obvious assumption is that they have a playable version of the game.

Cyberleek claims to be doing all of this as a way of fighting back against practices it disagrees with, such as the cessation of physical discs, locking away DLC that’s already in the game, digital pre-orders and many other things. They state that they will do the same thing to other companies if things do not change.

At the same time, Cyberleek is running a memecoin cryptocurrency, which it claims will help fund their operation, including some mystery project. Understandably, there’s doubt surrounding this claim.

According to one online user who investigated the memecoin, Cyberleek may have already pulled in $50,000 and counting.

GTA 6 will be getting an extended look on August 27 via Netflix, before appearing on Youtube 6 hours later.

    #News #PlayStation #rockstar #TakeTwo #Xbox
  39. GTA 6 Leaker CyberLeek May Have Already Made $50,000 From Its Meme Coin

The person/people behind the latest GTA 6 leaks may have already earned around $50,000 from the meme coin being promoted alongside the stolen footage, according to some Internet sleuthing.

That estimate comes from GTA Forums user Vice Cit, who claims to have studied digital forensics and has now published two reports examining the wallets connected to CyberLeek’s website, uploads and cryptocurrency. Go read both reports if you want a moe detailed breakdown of everything, including the lively discussion surrounding it all.

    Advertisements

This is still research conducted by an unknown forum user, so none of it should be treated as definitive proof of any of the claims made in the report. In other words, people, lots of salt. Not just a pinch. A shovelful.

However, much of the underlying transaction history is publicly visible and the basic money trail appears to check out, at least to my limited skillset.

CyberLeek is potentially a serious problem for Rockstar. The group’s (or individual’s) latest video appeared to show someone controlling the game and shooting the word “LEEK” into a wall. That would suggest CyberLeek either has access to a playable GTA 6 build or is working with someone within Rockstar who does.

In its manifesto, CyberLeek presents itself as a group fighting for consumer rights. Its demands include an end to digital pre-orders and paid single-player DLC that’s already in the game, better preservation of online games and support for physical media. All things a lot of gamers feel pasionate about.

Alongside those demands, however, CyberLeek has also been heavily promoting its own CYBERLEEK meme coin which is based on Solana. The group claims money raised through the coin will fund its operation and an unspecified mystery future project designed to further its goals. And the group has threatened other publishers and developers with the same fate should they not apologise and attempt to fix the issues.

    https://youtu.be/VQRLujxTm3c?si=GXUMOD8p-qC9ru9n&t=1

According to Vice Cit’s research, the wallets used to fund the CyberLeek website, permanent copies of its uploads and the creation of the meme coin can all be connected to the same small cluster of wallets.

That does not prove they are all controlled by one person. CyberLeek could be an individual, a group or someone working with an insider. What it does show is that the website, uploads and cryptocurrency appear to have been prepared as parts of the same operation before the GTA 6 footage became public. That’s not shocking in particuilar, but still interesting.

Vice Cit also traced part of the original funding back through several wallets to a known KuCoin exchange wallet. Because KuCoin accepts formal requests for customer information from law enforcement and requires a form of ID to sign up, this could potentially provide investigators with a useful lead.

    Advertisements

However, there’s a big caveat: it’s nowhere near as simple as finding a name on a KuCoin account and immediately arresting the GTA 6 leaker. The account could belong to another member of the group, an outside source of funding, a money mule, or even someone whose account was compromised and stolen. KuCoin has also previously pleaded guilty over serious failures in its identity-checking and anti-money-laundering systems, confusing things even more.

The more immediately interesting part is how the meme coin generates money. When CYBERLEEK was launched, its creator put 730 million coins and approximately 330 SOL—worth around $29,000 at the time—into the pool people use to buy and sell it.

That money has since been permanently locked, meaning the creator cannot simply withdraw it and run. However, they can continue collecting a small fee whenever anybody trades the coin, which is how generates income.

The CYBERLEEK trading pool has already processed around $19 million in trades. Based on Raydium’s published fee structure, that could have generated approximately $40,000 in fees for whoever controls the locked funds.

The pool also appears to have a separate creator fee enabled, potentially adding another $9,500 and bringing the total close to $50,000.

    CyberLeek’s mascot.

That does not necessarily mean CyberLeek has withdrawn $50,000 in clean profit. The value of cryptocurrency can change rapidly, fees may be held in different currencies and the original $29,000 investment remains permanently locked. Still, the available figures make Vice Cit’s overall estimate reasonably plausible.

Another wallet connected to the coin’s creation continues to hold 270 million CYBERLEEK tokens, carrying a theoretical value of several hundred thousand dollars. That is mostly paper money, though. Attempting to sell all of them would crash the price and return only a fraction of that amount. Chances are, these tokens would have to be sold slowly over time to avoid that crash.

This gives CyberLeek an obvious financial incentive to keep people interested. Every new GTA 6 clip brings more attention, more trading and potentially more fees. The group’s decision to slowly release footage and allow visitors to vote on what comes next could therefore be about maximising income rather than fighting for gamers.

On top of that, the CyberLeek website has introduced Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond membership tiers based on how many CYBERLEEK tokens somebody keeps in their wallet, openly encouraging users to “buy more to climb”. The promised rewards include early announcements and voting rights to private channels, boosted token giveaways and alleged USDC payouts. It effectively turns the leak campaign into a token-gated members’ club—giving followers another reason to buy and hold the coin while every new GTA 6 clip keeps attention, trading and potentially its price alive.

There’s a lot of speculation here. CyberLeek may genuinely believe in its manifesto, or at least parts of it. But when your supposed consumer-rights campaign comes with its own highly speculative meme coin and a potentially lucrative fee system, people are entitled to question whether this is a noble crusade or an unusually elaborate way to make a pile of money. Or both.

And the ultimate irony is, it’s probably not even regular gamers helping fund this. Chances are, it’s speculative traders looking to make a quick buck that are buying into the coin so they can sell it right before the value crashes.

I also think that while Rockstar is undoubtedly furious about this leak, it will barely even be a scratch in the sales of GTA 6 when it launches, and has probably acted more like a massive free marketing boost for the game.
