Bedroom wall is slowly getting wetter. I have sent another email to the school (the leak is on a party wall between the two buildings) they said they’d fix it but still nothing has happened. These pictures are on top of our wardrobe but the damp patch spreads below as well. I am concerned that it will begin to go mouldy where the air can’t circulate… aaargh. #BigHouse

Good news! The cooker is fixed and now the door shuts. The man that came blamed a ‘poor supply’ of the original gaskets. Which means they actually sold and installed a stove they knew had a defective part and we’ve waited 18 months for them to fix it! 🤬 But done now. AND the plumber came and is going to give us a quote to remove the dead leg on the mains and put a modern stopcock on our system at the back door. #BigHouse

Todays #BigHouse issue is an old lead water main in our wall which was capped with plastic when we had work done to the house and is now leaking/attracting condensation. I have cut away the mouldy plasterboard but need to call a plumber to dig up the courtyard and cap this pipe away from the building. I had my doubts about capping it indoors last time and I think any more fixes in place will just cause more trouble than they are worth. Hoping it won’t ‘blow’ in the meantime. 🤞🤞🤞Some jobs are not #DIY.

Today I am tidying. I hate tidying. Yesterday I watched some tidying videos and they sap my soul. The women were all so cheery and shouty. Like having a happy shouting person tell me how easy this all is will help? I’m going to watch dolls house unboxing videos today. I’m hoping I will sort more stuff to happy quiet voices. And finally! #DIY #BigHouse #MakersHour all done with hand tools, a multi tool and a jig saw… 😍 I’m knackered. For each floorboard run I have been up and down the stairs at least twice, measuring up here and cutting in the kitchen.

Flooring update! We have got to the doorway and need to stop and do some more with the multi-tool. I also drew many wrong lines until I actually put the set square against the wall… as ever I should have trusted my measurements and not tried to make it square because it isn’t square! #Phew #DIY #BigHouse

Update! We have flooring. #DIY #BigHouse #AdviceWelcome. Things they don’t tell me in the videos: 1) as I have lathe and plaster walls every time I hit the flooring with a wooden mallet plaster leaps out the wall all over the place (I mean 1.5m spread of dusty grit).
2) if you have lathe and plaster walls the cute little plastic wedges also jump out when the flooring goes together.
3) if the flooring expert is 5ft tall and not well built with muscle, you won’t be able to ‘click’ the flooring together by hand!
So 1) I am working with the hoover between every board! 2) I’m replacing the wedges every 2 second and 3) I have sacrificed a whole board to use as a buffer between my wooden mallet and the floor to be my ‘hands’. Next plan is to cut some of my offcuts into ‘spacers’ to replace the wedges… let’s hope I can get the out again at the end! 😂💪 -

I am looking at oscillating multi-tools like this one, which, following the advice above is at the lower end on the decent budget rather than the bottom of the cheap budget. (I have a dremel but it won’t do the cutting/scraping stuff for floor prep.) And its sanding attachments are really for modelling purposes. #BigHouse my jigsaw takes any clip in type blade (universal).
