Film rivisti: About a boy, Carlito’s way
Eccoci qui per l’ultimo capitolo di questa appassionante annata di cinema: il vostro è in procinto di partire, in questo momento ho già un piede sull’aereo per Barcellona, ma prima di congedarmi dalla città eterna è mio dovere raccontarvi di quest’ultima settimana da cinefilo. Un anno fa, agli esordi di questa rubrica, stavo per partire in direzione Monaco di Baviera, e mi ritrovai così a guardarmi Munich per motivi non molto razionali, ma era un modo come un altro per ingannare il tempo in attesa del viaggio. Seguendo lo stesso ragionamento avrei dovuto rivedere L’appartamento spagnolo probabilmente, perché è ambientato a Barcellona, ma avendo “vissuto” quel film durante quest’anno non avevo una gran voglia di rivedere ancora una volta quella storia, proprio ora che è tutto finito… Così mi sono consolato con altri sei film, tre in sala, un vecchio classico e due riproposizioni apprezzatissime. Prima di cominciare vi annoio con un dato significativo: da gennaio ho visto 102 film al cinema, e considerando che il mio record (appartenente al 2007) è di 110 film in un anno, penso proprio che sto per disintegrarlo, polverizzarlo, farlo a pezzi; il tempo di tornare dalle vacanze.
Accadde una notte (1934) di Frank Capra è un film importantissimo per la Hollywood di quel periodo: in un certo senso lanciò il genere della commedia romantica, e fu il primo film ad essere premiato con i cinque oscar più importanti. Avrei dovuto vederlo molti anni fa durante una corso di storia del cinema all’università, ma quella volta mi addormentai e poi me ne andai a casa: dopo tanto tempo ho avuto il desiderio di vedere questo film, e forse sono rimasto un po’ deluso. Certo, conosco il buonismo di Capra, e avrei dovuto farmi trovare preparato sulla scontatezza della storia, ma in qualche modo non ho trovato praticamente un solo punto di interesse in questa pellicola. Una ereditiera scappa di casa per andare a New York a sposare un arrampicatore sociale, su un autobus incontra il giornalista Clark Gable che la aiuta in cambio dello scoop finale: i due litigano sempre ma piano piano scoprono di amarsi. Ammetto di non aver mai avuto una grande simpatia per Gable, e ho trovato Claudette Colbert veramente irritante. Ho rispetto per l’importanza di questo film nel contesto in cui è stato realizzato e presentato, ma visto per la prima volta nel 2008 appare scontato e banale: senza offesa per il grande Frank Capra, ma questo film non l’ho digerito.
About a boy (2002) di Chris e Paul Weisz prima di questa settimana lo avevo visto solo una volta al cinema, sei anni fa, e avevo da tempo molta voglia di rivederlo: primo, perchè è tratto da un libro di Nick Hornby (il mio scrittore preferito, a cui devo la nascita di questa rubrica), secondo, perché Hugh Grant mi fa morire da ridere e terzo perché ricordavo di essermi divertito molto al cinema, e dunque perché non rivederlo una seconda volta? Hugh Grant è un viziato riccone che passa le giornate a cercare di rimorchiare donne e a guardare la televisione; nel tentativo di far colpo su una ragazza madre incontra Marcus, il figlio di un’amica di lei, che vede Hugh Grant come un tipo in gamba che può dargli le dritte giuste per far sì che non venga più trattato da sfigato a scuola. La storia è ben più sottile di quest’accozzaglia di parole che ho messo una dopo l’altra nelle righe precedenti, fatto sta che il rapporto tra i due è divertente, il ragazzo del titolo sono in realtà entrambi, e dal loro confronto i due capiranno il loro modo di stare al mondo. Una bella commedia, piacevolissima e gustosa. Un film che va bene con tutto: una serata a casa da soli, con la ragazza, con gli amici, coi genitori o con il vostro gatto o con tutti quanti insieme.
Dante 01 (2008) di Marc Caro è un film di fantascienza francese: si potrebbe definire la risposta francese a 2001 e a Solaris, ma in fondo nessuno ha chiesto a Marc Caro di rispondere! Il film è girato bene, ambientato bene, ma è noioso, con una storia particolare e non molto interessante a dire la verità, in poche parole non l’ho gradito molto. In una prigione spaziale arriva un nuovo detenuto, una sorta di messia dei carcerati, in grado di guarire le ferite e di togliere i peccati e i dolori dal corpo degli altri. Ma essendo speciale è anche malvisto da alcuni detenuti che lo vogliono morto, in tutto ciò la stazione spaziale viene dirottata verso un pianeta infuocato e il resto è uno sbadiglio. Tecnicamente ben realizzato, ma a dire la verità speravo in ben altro.
Con il pretesto di dover finire una cassa di birre, con un paio di amici ci siamo riuniti una sera per bere un po’ e soprattutto rivederci uno dei capolavori di Brian De Palma: Carlito’s way (1993). Coincidenza vuole che mi sia comprato una maglietta di questo film proprio due sere prima di rivederlo, si tratta di un film inamovibile dalla top 10 dei miei film preferiti ed è veramente una pellicola meravigliosa. Al Pacino è un ex-spacciatore uscito di galera dopo cinque anni: ritrova il suo quartiere cambiato, decide di lavorare onestamente e di chiudere con la vecchia vita, ma si ritroverà continuamente coinvolto in situazioni pericolose, indipendentemente dalla sua volontà (“Non me la vado certo a cercare io questa merda, è lei che viene da me: io scappo, lei mi insegue”). La lotta di un uomo verso una rinascita che non riuscirà a completare, un gangster movie tendente al noir, un film veramente unico nel suo genere e per questo meraviglioso (anche grazie ad un Al Pacino devastante nel ruolo di Carlito, a un grande Sean Penn e alla straordinaria regia di De Palma). Amo questo film, le sue atmosfere, il grande carisma del personaggio di Carlito Brigante: saggio, malinconico, nostalgico, caparbio, sognante, leale. Un film d’altri tempi, un capolavoro sempre troppo sottovalutato dalla critica parruccona, ma dal valore inossidabile per gli amanti del cinema.
Gli ultimi due film di questa annata, prima delle mia partenza per Barcellona prima e per il solito mare della Puglia poi, provengono entrambi dalla sala. Per onorare l’ultima serata cinematografica, con gli amici di cui sopra abbiamo deciso di sperimentare una doppia visione: un film dopo l’altro allo stesso cinema, dopo aver minuziosamente calcolato i tempi di ognuno. Alle 22.30 ci siamo visti il bellissimo Grace is gone (2007) di James C. Strouse, un film commovente ed emozionante, mai banale, costruito su un grande dolore e sul bellissimo personaggio di John Cusack, perfetto in ogni sfumatura del viso e in ogni ruga della fronte. Cusack è un ex-militare allontanato dall’esercito a causa di un problema alla vista, al posto suo sua moglie, anch’essa militare, è andata in Iraq a combattere la guerra. Un giorno al buon John viene comunicata la morte della moglie in battaglia, e il protagonista non sa come esprimere il suo dolore e senso di colpa: decide di prendere le sue bambine e di portarle nel loro parco giochi preferito, in Florida, non riuscendo al momento a dir loro della scomparsa della madre. La famigliola si confronta, si forma e piano piano si crea un legame magico tra John Cusack, le due bambine e gli spettatori: un film veramente bello, un vero gioiello in questa estate un po’ misera di buoni film (e poi è musicato da Clint Eastwood!).
L’altra faccia della medaglia è rappresentata dal film seguente, visto alle 00.10: The love guru (2008) di Marco Schnabel, una commedia che speravamo potesse farci chiudere in bellezza la stagione cinematografica. Scelta sbagliata: il film è stupidissimo e fa ridere davvero poco, ha una trama senza capo né coda (Mike Myers è un guru indiano ingaggiato dalla presidentessa Jessica Alba per rimettere in sesto un campione di hockey depresso dalla separazione con la sua donna, la quale ora sta insieme al superdotato portiere rivale Justin Timberlake). Si salva Timberlake, che fa ridere sul serio (soprattutto quando intona e balla Celine Dion), e il “remake” del videoclip di More Than Words degli Extreme, con Myers che suona il sitar e canta sotto gli occhi di Jessica Alba (ah, certo, salvo anche lei ovviamente, davvero troppo troppo bella per essere criticata). Film sciocco, giustamente uscito ad agosto (al contario di Grace is gone, che meritava di certo una collocazione e una distribuzione più degna).
Ci siamo, è finito anche questo luglio, è tempo di saluti anche per noi, miei cari affezionatissimi. Vi lascio senza troppi giri di parole, perché ho la valigia ancora da preparare e l’aereo in pista. Ci ritroveremo qui, per un’altra annata di cinema, molto presto: per citare un grande capolavoro degli anni 90 (ma non vi dirò quale) tornerò prima che voi possiate dire “crostata di mirtilli”.

Magnum (Wonder Man)

Estreia: 27 de janeiro de 2026O ano de 2026 da Marvel começa já em janeiro com o lançamento de “Wonder Man” ou como é conhecido no Brasil “Magnum“, a 17ª série de televisão do Universo Cinematográfico Marvel (MCU), produzida pela Marvel Studios através de seu selo Marvel Television. A série também é produzida pela Family Owned e Onyx Collective.
Nesta minissérie de oito episódios criada por Destin Daniel Cretton e Andrew Guest, acompanhamos Simon Williams — vivido por Yahya Abdul-Mateen II — um ator frustrado e cheio de ambições que vai de rejeições em audições até a chance de uma vida: interpretar o icônico Wonder Man numa nova versão do filme de super-herói dos anos 1970.
O showrunner Andrew Guest descreveu o personagem como “incrivelmente poderoso de uma forma que nem ele mesmo tem plena consciência”, com o executivo da Marvel Studios, Brian Gay, acrescentando que Simon “nem sabe a extensão de seus poderes”, embora ambos tenham observado que o personagem não se importa de ter poderes e simplesmente quer ser um ator de sucesso como Daniel Day-Lewis.
Abdul-Mateen explicou que Simon esconde seus poderes porque eles são malvistos na Hollywood ficcional do MCU. O personagem permitiu que ele explorasse “alguma tridimensionalidade” entre seu passado e seu relacionamento com a família, enquanto ainda era um super-herói.
Ben Kingsley retorna como Trevor Slattery, ator que fracassado que anteriormente assumiu a identidade do Mandarim , trabalhando para Aldrich Killian em Homem de Ferro 3, e que mais tarde foi sequestrado pela organização Dez Anéis de Xu Wenwu em Shang-Chi e a Lenda dos Déz Anéis, que também está fazendo testes para o filme do Wonder Man.
Slattery retorna a Hollywood após o rompimento com o Mandarim e os Dez Anéis para encontrar uma “segunda chance” como ator e provar à sua mãe, Dorothy, que ele era “o ator que [ela] sempre esperou que ele fosse”, com o Wonder Man mostrando Slattery assumindo a responsabilidade por seu comportamento passado.
Guest chamou Slattery de um “personagem tipo Forrest Gump , tipo Chauncey Gardiner ” que consegue se “envolver em coisas maiores”. O produtor executivo e presidente da Marvel Television, Brad Winderbaum disse que o personagem tinha uma “estrutura de três atos muito interessante” dentro da série, que era “muito sincera, muito séria [e] não cínica”, com Kingsley acrescentando que Slattery é “puxado em duas direções”, incluindo a busca por sua ambição, mas “a um custo terrível”.
O elenco ainda conta com Arian Moayed como P. Cleary, um agente do Departamento de Controle de Danos, Zlatko Burić como Von Kovak, diretor célebre que está dirigindo o remake de Wonder Man, Demetrius Grosse como Eric Williams/Ceifador, o irmão mais velho “estável” de Simon, X Mayo, Olivia Thirlby, Byron Bowers, Josh Gad, Lauren Glazier, Béchir Sylvain, Manny McCord, Simon Templeman, Joe Pantoliano,Dane Larsen, Phumzile Sitole, Jere Burns e Ed Harris como o agente de Simon, Neal Saroyan.
“Magnum” é descrito como autoconsciente e metalinguístico, uma sátira que comenta, com humor e sensibilidade, sobre a própria cultura dos super-heróis e a saturação do gênero, sem perder de vista a jornada humana de seus protagonistas.

O filme é baseado na saga em quadrinhos do Batman de mesmo nome, lançada em três partes entre 1993 e 1994. Foi criada por Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Dennis O’Neil, Peter David, Jo Duffy, Jim Aparo, Graham Nolan, Norm Breyfogle e Jim Balent.

Moore como Curtis Hoyle, um amigo próximo de Frank Castle e ex-SARC da Marinha dos EUA, que se tornou o líder de um grupo de terapia depois de perder a parte inferior da perna esquerda em combate.

No entanto, diferentemente de sua antecessora, a formação muda de episódio para episódio e é refletida nos créditos de abertura.

Matthew Chauncey, roteirista da primeira série animada da Marvel Studios, “What If…?” (2021–2024), foi contratado para substituir DeMayo como roteirista principal da série a partir da 3ª temporada que já está confirmada.

Com roteiro escrito por Ana Nogueira (que irá escrever o futuro filme da Mulher-Maravilha), o longa acompanha Kara Zor-El viajando pela galáxia par comemorar seu 23º aniversário com a companhia do seu cachorro Krypto, como vimos no final do filme do Superman. Ao longo do caminho, ela conhece a jovem Ruthye Marye Knoll e se depara com uma tragédia que a leva a uma “busca assassina por vingança”.
Milly Alcock estrela como Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, prima de Kal-El / Superman, criada em um pedaço do planeta destruído Krypton e que viu todos ao seu redor morrerem, tornando-a uma pessoa mais cínica do que seu primo, que foi criado na Terra por pais amorosos. Como os kryptonianos são curados e ganham poderes com sóis amarelos, a Supergirl gosta de festejar em planetas com sóis vermelhos, onde pode se embriagar.
O produtor do filme e co-CEO da DC Studios, James Gunn imaginou a Supergirl como uma “personagem meio fada , mas com muita atitude”. Estreia: Entre Julho e Setembro de 2026Após anos de desenvolvimento, iniciado originalmente em 2019 como uma produção da HBO Max, com envolvimento de Greg Berlanti, e estrelada por Finn Wittrock como Guy Gardner e Jeremy Irvine como Alan Scott em 2021, a série dos Lanternas Verdes foi completamente reformulada com a chegada de James Gunn e Peter Safran como co-presidentes e co-CEOs da recém-formada DC Studios em outubro de 2022.
Desta vez a produção que veremos neste ano se concentrar em John Stewart fazendo dupla com a lenda da Tropa Hal Jordan. Com criação de Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof e Tom King, a série “Lanternas” acompanha o experiente Lanterna Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) e o recruta novato John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) enquanto investigam um assassinato no Nebraska, o que os leva a mistérios e acertos de contas mais sombrios.
Kyle Chandler viverá Hal Jordan, um ex-piloto de testes e membro lendário da Tropa dos Lanternas Verdes que está se aproximando da aposentadoria, e está treinando John Stewart. Os roteiristas se inspiraram na interpretação de Sam Shepard como Chuck Yeager no filme “Os Eleitos” (1983).
O showrunner Chris Mundy sentiu que Chandler tinha as mesmas qualidades, bem como um humor seco que eles consideravam importante para Jordan.
Aaron Pierre será John Stewart, um novo recruta dos Lanternas Verdes que Jordan está treinando para substituí-lo. Mundy disse que irão adaptar as duas origens do personagem, em que ele era tanto um fuzileiro naval quanto um arquiteto, e sentiu que Pierre poderia retratar ambos os aspectos.
Ele disse que Pierre era um “ator de teatro sério, mas também parece ter sido construído em um laboratório para ser uma estrela de ação”. O diretor James Hawes disse que Pierre tinha “uma presença magnífica. Ele parece tão imponente, tão frio, tão discreto.”

Outro nome especulado é o de Laura Linney, indicada três vezes ao Oscar e ao Emmy, como possível Carol Ferris, interesse romântico de Hal Jordan que também assume o papel de Safira Estrela nos quadrinhos.

Tom Rhys Harries viverá Matt Hagen, um ator promissor que, após ter o rosto desfigurado por um gângster, se submete a um experimento da cientista Caitlin Bates (interpretada por Naomi Ackie), CEO de uma start-up de biotecnologia. O tratamento, no entanto, o transforma em uma criatura capaz de remodelar o corpo como argila e assumir múltiplas formas humanas. Max Minghella e Eddie Marsan também estão no elenco.

Kore-eda, cujos créditos incluem o vencedor da Palma de Ouro “Assunto de Família (Shoplifters)“, os filmes da competição de Cannes “Monster“, “Broker” e “Pais e Filhos“, está atualmente em pós-produção do longa-metragem após as filmagens em Nikaho City.
Fujimoto, criador do mangá de sucesso “Chainsaw Man“, que vendeu mais de 34 milhões de cópias em todo o mundo, disse: “Se o diretor Kore-eda for mesmo filmar ‘Look Back‘, não tenho mais nada a dizer. Estou ansioso para ver o filme.”

This is a story of a #monopoly. It is also a story of #government #licensing, and #accessibility. There’s a bit of #MLM, but not the usual kind.
I am seeking employment as an #administrative #professional (#administrativeAssistant, #executiveAssistant, basically, #administrativeSupport). I was on a #contract with a #BigTech company, and the program I was supporting is sundowning, so about two-thirds of us were let go at the end of the fiscal year.
I’ve been applying to many places, some of which turned out to be #scams (any company with the word “travel”, “adventure”, or “vacation” in their name, and who claims to be looking for administrative anything is a scam. Ten times out of ten).
I also managed to apply to an insurance … organization. They are agents selling policies from a specific #BigInsurance, only through “agencies” (and sub-agencies - they unfortunately invited prospects (including me) to join their "huddles" on Zoom and I'm observant) and they are looking for prospects in specific regions of the #USA and #Canada.
This costs money, as this is a profession where you need a #license. The investment was reasonable, $49 for #training, another $49 for the #test, and another $50 for the license application, plus $45ish for #fingerprinting. Even if I choose not to work for the people who recruited me, credentials tend to be useful in some way.
I paid for the training on 04 Nov, paid for the test on 12 Nov (scheduled for 26 Nov), did the fingerprinting on 16 Nov. Also on 12 Nov, I tried to initiate the #accommodations process with the testing company, (the above-mentioned monopoly) Pearson VUE.
To apply for accommodations, the test-taker is asked to create an additional account on the accommodations portal. The final step of this process is to follow the steps in a “verification email” that may take up to fifteen minutes to be sent.
I /never/ received this email. Thus, I was never able to verify my account, or move forward in the process. After several telephone calls, I was provided an email address for the accessibility team.
On 21 Nov, I emailed the Pearson Accessibility team with a detailed, step-by-step, description of what I was doing, what I was seeing, and the fact that their system never provided me that verification email. Of course, since I’d already created the account, I was attempting to use the “Resend verification email” link (it runs a script). I included ten marked-up screenshots, and asked for a Read #Receipt.
I actually got a reply. However, the reply was “you actually sent this to the wrong place.” It also stated that Pearson VUE did /not/ manage accommodations requests, that was done by the entity who owned the test.
I replied to that email, copy-pasted the email with the steps, attached the screenshots, and asked for another Read Receipt. In that email, I said, “This should be a simple process. I have invested hours of my time in documenting the behavior I am seeing because no one at Pearson VUE accepts my word that I'm following the procedure and it is not working. This will also cost me money to extend my access to training materials until I'm able to test.”
This got a reply where I was informed my account had been locked due to “too many attempts.” On 22 November, I was able to actually log into the portal and get the information I needed to request the appropriate document from my #VocRehab counselor. I sent an email to both my counselor and her assistant, including the #IDC codes corresponding to my current situation (I’ve been an administrative pro long enough to know that the easier the request, the quicker it’s completed).
I received a request on 02 December to complete a DocuSign granting permission for my counselor to share the info with Pearson. Pearson’s website says the process can take “up to ten days,” so I scheduled my test for Friday, 20 Dec, figuring that would work.
On 13 Dec, Pearson notified my counselor that my request had been accepted, and the email included specific instructions for scheduling. The only option is to call a specific phone number. And they aren’t open on the weekend.
On Monday, 16 Dec, when I called, I was on hold “for the next available…” for 40 minutes. When I was finally able to speak to someone, they asked me to verify absolutely every bit of personal data they have on me. Then, I was told I would have to schedule the test at a Pearson Testing Center (there are several local ones). The first center, the one closest to me, did not have any openings until February. The next-closest had an availability for noon on January 17. I was put on hold while the agent tried to request that time. The call dropped.
Another 45 minutes waiting for an agent, and, again, I had to verify all the data. This time, after three “brief” holds of 5+ minutes, I was told the request was pending, and that I would receive a call.
I did receive a call on Thursday, 19 Dec, but my caller ID said it was from “State of California.” Which is /not/ Pearson, so I sent it to voicemail. The voicemail said I had to confirm that I wanted that time “within two business days” and I called back. After another long wait time, the agent said they needed to reach out to “that department” and after even more hold times, I was told that “Marcus” would call me back /that day/.
Of course he did not. I called back Friday morning, and, again, long hold times, and give the agent all the information. And “Marcus” wasn’t going to be in for twenty minutes (it was 9:40 CST, so, aha! he’s on PST). I called back at about 3:00 pm PST (5:00 pm my time). I used to support folks in all five time zones in the contiguous 48, so this is second nature). After another 45 minutes and stuff, the agent said that time was no longer available.
I followed all their steps and procedures. Apparently, the accommodations department at Pearson VUE is dependent on one person, Marcus. I should have been able to take this test by now. Nowhere on the website does it say that test takers requesting accommodations should NOT schedule online. I even deliberately scheduled to test at a local college because I /know/ they have the capability to provide the accommodations I need.
The really stupid part of this is all that time on hold and all that time documenting the misbehavior of their system.
I was promised a call on Monday, 23 Dec. Of course, I'm calling them.

On 13 Dec, Pearson notified my counselor that my request had been accepted, and the email included specific instructions for scheduling. The only option is to call a specific phone number. And they aren’t open on the weekend.
On Monday, 16 Dec, when I called, I was on hold “for the next available…” for 40 minutes. When I was finally able to speak to someone, they asked me to verify absolutely every bit of personal data they have on me. Then, I was told I would have to schedule the test at a Pearson Testing Center (there are several local ones). The first center, the one closest to me, did not have any openings until February. The next-closest had an availability for noon on January 17. I was put on hold while the agent tried to request that time. The call dropped.
Another 45 minutes waiting for an agent, and, again, I had to verify all the data. This time, after three “brief” holds of 5+ minutes, I was told the request was pending, and that I would receive a call.
I did receive a call on Thursday, 19 Dec, but my caller ID said it was from “State of California.” Which is /not/ Pearson, so I sent it to voicemail. The voicemail said I had to confirm that I wanted that time “within two business days” and I called back. After another long wait time, the agent said they needed to reach out to “that department” and after even more hold times, I was told that “Marcus” would call me back /that day/.
Of course he did not. I called back Friday morning, and, again, long hold times, and give the agent all the information. And “Marcus” wasn’t going to be in for twenty minutes (it was 9:40 CST, so, aha! he’s on PST). I called back at about 3:00 pm PST (5:00 pm my time). I used to support folks in all five time zones in the contiguous 48, so this is second nature). After another 45 minutes and stuff, the agent said that time was no longer available.
I followed all their steps and procedures. Apparently, the accommodations department at Pearson VUE is dependent on one person, Marcus. I should have been able to take this test by now. Nowhere on the website does it say that test takers requesting accommodations should NOT schedule online. I even deliberately scheduled to test at a local college because I /know/ they have the capability to provide the accommodations I need.
The really stupid part of this is all that time on hold and all that time documenting the misbehavior of their system.

They are agents selling policies from a specific #BigInsurance, only through “agencies” (and sub-agencies - they unfortunately invited prospects (including me) to join their "huddles" on Zoom and I'm observant) and they are looking for prospects in specific regions of the #USA and #Canada.
This costs money, as this is a profession where you need a #license. The investment was reasonable, $49 for #training, another $49 for the #test, and another $50 for the license application, plus $45ish for #fingerprinting. Even if I choose not to work for the people who recruited me, credentials tend to be useful in some way.
I paid for the training on 04 Nov, paid for the test on 12 Nov (scheduled for 26 Nov), did the fingerprinting on 16 Nov. Also on 12 Nov, I tried to initiate the #accommodations process with the testing company, (the above-mentioned monopoly) Pearson VUE.
To apply for accommodations, the test-taker is asked to create an additional account on the accommodations portal. The final step of this process is to follow the steps in a “verification email” that may take up to fifteen minutes to be sent.
I /never/ received this email. Thus, I was never able to verify my account, or move forward in the process. After several telephone calls, I was provided an email address for the accessibility team.
On 21 Nov, I emailed the Pearson Accessibility team with a detailed, step-by-step, description of what I was doing, what I was seeing, and the fact that their system never provided me that verification email. Of course, since I’d already created the account, I was attempting to use the “Resend verification email” link (it runs a script). I included ten marked-up screenshots, and asked for a Read #Receipt.
I actually got a reply. However, the reply was “you actually sent this to the wrong place.” It also stated that Pearson VUE did /not/ manage accommodations requests, that was done by the entity who owned the test.
I replied to that email, copy-pasted the email with the steps, attached the screenshots, and asked for another Read Receipt. In that email, I said, “This should be a simple process. I have invested hours of my time in documenting the behavior I am seeing because no one at Pearson VUE accepts my word that I'm following the procedure and it is not working. This will also cost me money to extend my access to training materials until I'm able to test.”
This got a reply where I was informed my account had been locked due to “too many attempts.” On 22 November, I was able to actually log into the portal and get the information I needed to request the appropriate document from my #VocRehab counselor. On 9 January, the European Year for Development was launched officially at a special event in Riga in conjunction with the opening of Latvia’s presidency of the Council of the EU.
Two days earlier the European Union was attacked on its values. Therefore may citicenzs and politicians came onto the streets to show others they may never forget that the European Union is based on values.The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) representing the various economic and social components of organised civil society, with its president Mr Malosse has called for a reform of European development policy and asks never commercial interests to be our guiding principle, the foundation of all our work, especially in the EU’s action beyond our borders. Nothing must detract from our values.
This does not mean imposing our values, or becoming another superpower, but rather adhering to them ourselves and taking a firm stance in dialogue.

In this respect, we must build up a dialogue of equals with our partners and return to the principles that prevailed when the Lomé Convention was signed: to negotiate, not grant favours. Let’s stop giving aid and instead work together for shared development!
For the EESC it is clear that
the European model of regional integration, cultural dialogue and true partnership must be at the forefront of this process, as one of the best ways of bringing about development.
Though we must not forget and be careful not to overlook another important task to ensure that it is ordinary people who benefit from the support – not the local middle-men, oligarchs or corrupt officials.
“We have to seize the occasion of the European Year for Development to make our policy more effective in resolving the huge problem of poverty. First of all, we should make the policy for development a Community policy.”
“It is also vital to redesign procedures, by reducing the bureaucracy involved, and to concentrate our funding efforts on populations’ concrete needs”.The EESC, which had to hear that there are not enough human resources to implement multiple, complex projects, has played an influential role in establishing 2015 as the official European Year for Development (EYD2015). In 2013, the EESC adopted a special opinion on the European Year of Development with rapporteur Andris Gobiņš, which provided firm support for the first ever European Year with a strong global and rights-based dimension. The idea was consistently promoted by the EESC, together with other civil society organisations, the most prominent of which was CONCORD – the European confederation for relief and development – until EYD2015 received official approval from the EU institutions in the spring of 2014.
“It is the first year which explicitly looks beyond the EU’s geographic territory and seeks to be more than just about informing people or campaigning. It aims to increase engagement and discussion, and puts civil society at the core of the process. It presents a great chance to go beyond the traditional players by involving more stakeholders, including those from the private sector, trade unions, consumers, environmentalists, NGOs“,
said EESC member Andris Gobiņš. The EESC has worked to put civil society at the core of EYD2015 and supported the establishment of a broad alliance of civil society organisations, coordinated by CONCORD, to play a key role in designing a wide civil society action programme.
The EESC is willing to look for and to find solutions, relying more for example on the social partners and civil society organisations, especially in countries where civil society is strong and active, as is the case in Ukraine, for instance. They are familiar with the field and can provide effective leverage for the EU.
To do this, we must go beyond mere consultation (and even that does not always happen, or is just a formality) and devise innovative tools for implementation other than traditional projects or budgetary support.
Malosse said. He pleaded further:
Ladies and gentlemen, my plea is that this year, the European Year for Development, should be a real opportunity to reform this policy. It has become bogged down in technical detail, red tape and procedures over the last 20 years, but today we can once again make it one of the EU’s flagship missions.

Giving others the chance our ancestors had
Lots of American citizens seem to have forgotten where they originally came from. They consider themselves true Americans, but are they so true ‘virgin’ Americans?

Today the United States like many West-European countries is facing an immigration problem. They have to do a lot with economical refugees. But they may not forget that there are also several people who want to come and live in the ‘New World‘ for the same reason as the ancestors of those contemporary ‘Americans’.
In the United States of America as well as in the European Union a wide range of issues are currently under critical discussion: the extent to which our high-tech industries will be able to recruit high-skill workers, the ways in which agricultural labour flows will be stabilized and those workers protected, the degree to which family reunification remains a guiding principle for decisions about who to let into the country and how. Also how people should be able to go work and live form one state into the other and under which conditions.
With the many people thinking the grass is greener over here than in their country and because of the big problematic human trafficking the issues most important for our states is insuring a clear and rapid road map to citizenship for the unauthorized or “undocumented” migrant population.
The American president wants to start a national debate. Across the country, the ‘Americans’ have a serious discussion about how they can build a fair and effective immigration system that lives up to their heritage as a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants.
And they need the help of many voices from al over, to make sure that genuine, personal perspectives are part of the conversation. The truth is, that if those ‘Americans’ go back far enough, nearly every American story begins somewhere else — so often with ancestors setting out in search of a different life, carving out a future for their children in that place that all of them now call home.
America’s immigration system is broken. Too many employers game the system by hiring undocumented workers and there are 11 million people living in the shadows. Neither is good for the economy or the country.
The President’s plan is to create an Immigration System for the 21st century, building a smart, effective immigration system that continues efforts to secure their borders and cracks down on employers who hire undocumented immigrants.
It’s a plan that requires anyone who’s undocumented to get right with the law by paying their taxes and a penalty, learning English, and undergoing background checks before they can be eligible to earn citizenship. It requires every business and every worker to play by the same set of rules.And that is also what they should do in Europe to stop unwanted scum and profiteers who do not want to contribute to the glory of the country but just want to fill their pocket by being the spongers of society. We should avoid any leeches.We may not take away the right of people to dream to make a better live for themselves. We never can deny the freedom and the glorious experiment some our ancestors got to build the live we can enjoy today. Together we should and can build a fair, effective and common sense immigration system that lives up to our heritage as a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants.

Legal immigration should be simple and efficient but not excluded from some important rules making that the person wanting to come into the country shows genuine reasons to come and live in a society he respects and is willing to consider as one of his own thoughts.
Undocumented immigrants should be provided with a legal way to earn citizenship so they can come out of the shadows. It should hold them accountable by requiring they pass background checks, pay taxes and a penalty, go to the back of the line, and learn the language of the region they want to live in (For the U.S.A. I would consider English and Spanish. For Belgium I would say they should learn Dutch and French or be fluent enough in German). It requires everyone to play by the same rules.
The government should be stronger in checking the companies if they are using the right workforce at the right price and should penalise any firm which has workers who have to work under the normal prize. It is high time that the governments in the industrialised countries stop businesses from exploiting the system by knowingly hiring undocumented workers or providing grounds to have slaves and human traffickers finding grounds for existence. It should hold these companies accountable, and give employers who want to play by the rules a reliable way to verify that their employees are here in our economical world legally.
Communities should be made safer from crime, enhancing the infrastructure and technology, and strengthening the ability to remove criminals, sending them back to where they came from, and apprehend and prosecute threats to our national security.
On January 29, 2013 president Obama said:
“If we’re truly committed to strengthening our middle class and providing more ladders of opportunity to those who are willing to work hard to make it into the middle class, we’ve got to fix the system. We have to make sure that every business and every worker in America is playing by the same set of rules. We have to bring this shadow economy into the light so that everybody is held accountable — businesses for who they hire, and immigrants for getting on the right side of the law. That’s common sense. And that’s why we need comprehensive immigration reform.”
This counts for every self-respecting country and we should go by those lines and give other people who have less than us the opportunity to grow like we would like to grow in prosperity.

Many settled in California long ago; almost half – 49 percent – of the state’s undocumented immigrants have lived here for more than 10 years. They are not just Latinos. Asians constitute 12 percent of the unauthorized population. And whatever the national origin, they are deeply connected to the state’s citizenry. Of the 6 percent of households headed by undocumented immigrants, nearly three-fourths have at least one citizen living there as well.The potential legalization and eventual naturalization of these immigrants would most likely economically benefit the state. Focusing specifically on the undocumented population, the Center for American Progress recently suggested that a road map to citizenship could generate a 25 percent boost in immigrant income, whereas a more conservative estimate for the state generated last year by USC’s Center for the Study of Immigrant Integration suggests a more modest gain of more than 14 percent. Either means a boost in state GDP, multiplied over several years and many sectors.

On April 10, thousands of immigration reform supporters gathered together in front of the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. to rally for the inclusion of a reliable path to citizenship for the more than 11 million undocumented residents presently living in the United States. The multicultural crowd present that day included immigrant workers from a wide backgrounds of occupations, leaders of civic organizations and their members voicing the opposition against current immigration laws. There is a national consensus that the current immigration system is broken and that some decisions have to be made regarding the status of the undocumented population. The root of the problem goes back to the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA), enacted in 1986. U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services describe IRCA as “a bill that was passed in order to control and deter illegal immigration to the United States. On Monday, the Heritage Foundation published a widely panned study arguing that comprehensive immigration reform that allows undocumented immigrants to earn citizenship would cost taxpayers $6.3 trillion, as the population will take advantage of an array of government programs, including, Social Security, Medicare, unemployment benefits, Medicaid, public education, and population-based services like police and parks. But the study, which comes out under the leadership of conservative former Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), is a sharp departure from a “Backgrounder” the Foundation published in 2006. A new survey published this morning by the Brookings Institution and the Pubic Religion Research Institute reveals that more than 6 in 10 Americans think undocumented immigrants should be granted a path to citizenship. The latest numbers show slow growth in the United States. That’s bad for jobs, income – it’s even bad for those worried about the deficit because it means lower tax revenues. And it has prompted a revival of the partisan debate about what to do about it.Well, there’s one idea out there that could have support from both parties. A study out last week suggests there is one very simple way to increase tax revenue, expand GDP, and create jobs – all at the same time. The study’s authors make the case that legalizing undocumented workers brings them into the formal economy. Now they have to pay income taxes, social security, and health care taxes and all those other things you see on your wage stubs. It also gives them access to many more jobs, and at higher wages. These gains then go on to have ripple effects across the economy, boosting GDP growth.Critics often point out that if illegal immigrants become citizens, they become a burden on the system, impacting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. But these arguments ignore basic economics. Immigrants with legal papers are transformed into contributing members of society. And access to society’s services also makes them safer, healthier, and more productive.

Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev came to the United States in 2002 and were granted asylum. While Tamerlan was a legal resident, Dzhokhar became a U.S. citizen in 2012.Some of those involved in the ongoing immigration debate on Capitol Hill are yanking the reins insisting that the bombing casts a new light on the issue that must be considered.
Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa), for example, urged lawmakers not to rush ahead without giving due consideration to the issues raised by the Boston bombings. He made the remarks during a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Later, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), one of the so-called gang-of-eight who have unveiled a sweeping immigration reform proposal, said he believes the bombing should make immigration reform even more critical.
“What happened in Boston…I think should urge us to act quickly, not slower, when it comes to getting the 11 million [illegal immigrants living in the U.S.] identified,” Graham said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y), another backer of reform, agreed: “We are not going to let them use what happened in Boston as an excuse, because our law toughens things up,” Schumer said on the same show.
