What color are your thoughts dyeing your soul today?
"The soul becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts." — Marcus Aurelius
Written nearly 2,000 years ago, in a private journal never meant for an audience. Still holds up.

A quote that inspired me today from Marcus Aurelius’s “Meditations”:
“Wheresoever thou mayest live, there it is in thy power to live well and happy.”

"Are there briars in your path? Turn aside. That is enough. Do not go on and say, 'Why were things of this sort ever brought into the world?'"

Imagine for a moment
That you are a jellyfish
That you trail long, beautiful, protective tentacles with you wherever you go
And yet you simply ride the current. The water is warm, though your perception is only that of equilibrium and not warmth
The air is still, though your perception is only that of equilibrium and not stillness
For the water surely inhales,
Exhales
And you along with it
Inhales,
Exhales,
Between continentsWithout discursive considerations or liberal moralisms or analytical consciousness there is
Only
The perception
Of equilibrium. -
Sometimes I get really escalated about something and then I take a deep breath and remember I am not central, not even to my own physical existence, and that I am but a moment, a being, a thread in the Great Web, and I feel bliss.

Who would you be without category? Who are you in relation to all of the things you can name your relation to?

Continuing to appreciate #TheDailyStoic as a desk reader. I'm leaving yesterday's page here for your consideration accordingly.
The older I get, the now I appreciate that being #kind is one of the most impactful ways to make the world a better place. Our choices define who we are as people. Choice is one of the few things that is always under our control. Cheers friends.

Stirner, two ways:
I am not nothing in the sense of emptiness, but am the creative nothing, the nothing out of which I myself create everything as creator. (trans. Wolfi Landstreicher, 2017)
I am not nothing in the sense of emptiness, but am rather the creative nothingness, the nothingness on which I draw as the creator of all things. (trans. Malcolm Green, 1989).

As a struggling writer trying to get out of the #Devops , because at 53, it is pretty well grinding me.
I ask those to consider my #OC. A morning #news digest, and the deconstruction work I do, along with #queer fiction. And then a whole bevy of #druid stuff (#meditations , #herbal guides.).
I offer #KoFi , #Liberapay , and normal publication subs. All Paid subs get #signal & #discord and can be a space story character if you want.

Sharing a bit of perspective, fitting for these (and all) times. From “Meditations” by Marcus Aurelius:
“Look back, and consider both how quickly all things that are, are forgotten, and what an immense chaos of eternity was before, and will follow after all things.”

This quote from The Third Book in Meditations by Marcus Aurelius hit home for me today, as I struggle to stay on task and avoid the distractions of the news commentators and social media influencers. "Spend not the remnant of thy days in thoughts and fancies concerning other men, when it is not in relation to some common good, when by it thou art hindered from some other better work."
He goes on to exhort us to spend less time thinking about ideas that are "idle or impertinent...especially whatsoever is curious and malicious" so that we can converse in a way that is "sincere and peaceable" and "free from all contentiousness, envy, and suspicion."
I shall endeavor to take these suggestions to heart.

The Last Postcard Evelyn saved her first paycheck, bought a vintage postcard from 1958, and sent it to her future self. Decades later, finding it in her late mother's attic, she smiled at the faded ink. #ai_art #art #ai_writing #writing #errtlings #bookcafe #pleasant_things #life #meditations

Wrote a bit of a post on this, now public on the ol' Bloggo.
"If there is anything to the philosophy of determinism and necessity, this is it, isn’t it? It’s that there is nothing outside reality’s matrix of cause and effect, and with a powerful enough computer, you could reproduce every detail of the history of the universe from any complete cross-section."

Used to hate when he said it during tough times. Felt dismissive. Now I say it to myself during victories. The big win, the perfect moment with my kids, the breakthrough insight — all passing. Not to be morbid, but to be present. If it's all temporary, maybe we can stop clinging so hard. Maybe we can actually enjoy it while it's here.

A quotation from Marcus Aurelius
Taking it all together, keep always in view that human life is transitory and cheap: yesterday a drop of semen, tomorrow a buried corpse or ashes. So make your way through this brief moment in time in line with nature and let go of your life gladly, as an olive might fall when ripe, blessing the earth that bore it and grateful to the tree that gave it growth.
