Fediverse spam doesn't work as easily here on Hubzilla.
Spammers can try to mention-spam me all they want. I won't even notice. If someone whom I don't follow mentions me outside any thread I follow, I'm neither notified, nor do I receive the mention in my channel stream (= local timeline). Unlike on Mastodon. That is, I could turn this behaviour on on Hubzilla if I wanted to, but it's off by default.
If you want to spam my channel stream, the following criteria have to be met:- I must be following you. Whether or not I do is entirely my decision.
- I must have allowed you to send messages to my channel stream. Again, that's my decision. And I don't unless I explicitly want to. Yes, Hubzilla has such a permission setting. Amongst many others.
- I must not have you on ignore (which keeps me from seeing your stuff, and you won't notice).
- I must not have you on block (which keeps you from sending me stuff in the first place, but you may notice).
- I must not have you on Superblock which wipes you out of existence entirely from my channel's perspective.
Spamming a thread that started on Hubzilla can be prevented by the thread starter. On Hubzilla, the thread starter owns the whole thread, all comments included. If you comment on this post, it's still me who's the owner of your comment within my thread. And I can turn off comments for either specific comments or for the post itself and thereby the whole thread.
And yes, this keeps even Mastodon users from commenting. It may not keep them from sending a post in reply. But that post will not appear in the thread at least for anyone using a project that understands Hubzilla's one-post-many-comments conversation model, myself included.
If bad came to worse, I could even only allow certain users to comment on my posts in the first place. But that'd be overkill.
Oh, and by the way, even if a thread was started by someone else and appears in my channel stream, I can turn off comments for myself, but otherwise the same way that I can turn them off for my own threads. Yes, even if the thread was started on Mastodon.
If it's one bad actor or a few spamming streams and threads: Again, there's Superblock which works regardless of whether I'm connected to someone.
And if bad really came to worse, my last resort would be to pull up the drawbridge and turn ActivityPub off entirely for as long as needed. Then nothing would even be able to come in, not from Mastodon, not from Misskey, not from anything else that uses ActivityPub to communicate with Hubzilla.
Poor Mastodon users who only have "mute", "block" and "hope for mods to step in" at their disposal.

@bahmanm @galdor #AGPL is often used together with CLA:s to ensure the owner of the code does not have to comply with the #AGPL terms, only everyone else in the community.
This means that players in the community are not on equal terms.
I think #BSLLicense is more honest in this regard. It doesn’t hide the motives by pointing to an OSI approved license and as such leaves a more level playing field after the change date.

#TodaysBikeRide is a #GeoHash expedition alongsioe the Garonne's Lateral Canal to Eurocentre, a logistics platform north of Toulouse with lots of warehouse, a mail sorting center and the like. Nothing new for me: I used to work there a few years ago,when the owner of a company I worked (as a software engineer) for decided he didn't want to waste time in traffic jams entering the city, and moved us outside the city. @trashheap Using a built-in software feature, like “reshare”/“boost”, is not a #Copyright infringement. I can't remember which case it was, but a high court in the USA explained the different between re-uploading/redistribution vs. using a platform's built-in “reshare” feature.
What can be considered as infringement are:
* Re-uploading / redistributing an image/photo/art/fiction/ebook/story. Since these are automatically Copyrighted to the author/creator/writer.
* Creating a derivative, or a reproduction, work without permission or a license.On screenshots, it is case-by-case:
* Was it a screenshot of a scene from an animation or live-action production? It is infringement, however, in countries where there is Fair Use, or similar, they can get away with it depending on usage. (Example, in an article or review, it falls under Fair Use. [But if you overdo it, you still might get in trouble.])
* Was it a screenshot of a post where a Copyrighted work was included? If the subject is clearly about the post and not the Copyrighted material, it is fine. Otherwise, it's a grey area. If the owner of the Copyrighted material that was included in that screenshot, can prove their Rights were infringed, they can potentially win in court. (But using a platform's “reshare” feature is, again, fine as you simply re-shared it, not re-uploaded.)How about text-only posts?
* Generally, text-only posts in microblogging platforms, are not Copyrighted as those do not fall under any conditions of the Copyright Law. If the post owner can prove their post was a creative work, then they can try it in court.Of course, the Copyright landscape is constantly changing in our fast evolving cyberspace. For example, in many platforms today, they allow threading of a post. In some, even though the platform doesn't have any threading feature, mobile apps can add such features (example, Trunks can display a Mastodon thread properly even though Mastodon's web and mobile interface don't support threading).
So, if a user can prove that it is a “thread”, then there is a chance it can be Copyrightable. But, again, largely, “no”.
