  1. It's not good enough to just say everyone should stop using AI because reasons. It makes a lot of people's lives easier. I think everyone should stop using cars because reasons, but people won't unless a good alternative is available.

We need fewer highways and more high-speed rail. We need fewer systems that can be gamed by using AI and more that reward human endeavor.

  2. Finally got around to seeing #Digger this weekend. Fascinating movie, and I can see why people are so split about it. Those who hate it need to focus more on the B-plot, I think – I’m on board with this (spoiler-free) argument from ABC News:

  3. The video version of this week's podcast is going to be available tomorrow. Probably.

Youtube is having some down time. Along with claude, so makes me think there's something bigger going on.

  4. Its kinda doomed that when theres a provincial deficit problem Conservatives will want to cut taxes anyway, NDP will think charging the very rich a “little bit more” is a winning line, and Greens will propose a “one-time wealth tax” which is bad policy done irresponsibly.

  6. Europe must still be online cuz my follower count is going up and not down. I know that will change shortly after the #EU has to go to bed. America doesn't do #MissKitty. I think I may have more followers from overseas + #Canada than from America. That tells me a lot. America is #fascist. Even Dems.

I think this is well done. The tops of the grass bending down in the wind makes me think of spirits passing through, or luck passing through. Maybe catching a little chill, not just from the wind, the blank-faced statues are quietly present, unflinching in the elements.

These guys are considered a positive, protective spirit but it's still spookier than if it were an empty field. 😁 😑 🙏 ❤️

  8. I... I do try too hard because deep down I'm afraid I am what everyone thinks I am, and I suppress my discomfort because I'm worried it makes me look weak and I wanna be strong, and I think I'm failing all the time and I only take what you say personally because you're the only one in my life who *ever* believed in me, even when I don't even believe in myself! And I should have told you that... No one else in the *world* matters to me more than you do, either.

  13. We expect voters to keep up with the news, research every candidate and understand every proposition. I don't think we have to meet that bar to vote with more care.

A smaller step works: Choose one issue you already care about and look at how the person who already has the job actually voted.

  16. Since Thursday Morning, I have been battling with my #Datbase for #Friendica, along with a few dozen minor code issues, I think I have them pretty well ironed out, Thursday Afternoon I implemented trash protocols and insured all rubbish was in the proper receptacle and transported it to the road side collection point, Friday Morning, I returned to my battle of Enduring Upgrade Rectification, fighting with code and database the majority of the day, in where throughout I had several other tasks to complete, after refuse collection, I returned the receptacle to it's central collection point, I sought out collected and relocated several hand yard implements to a far more logical and sustainable storage and retrieval unit, Friday Evening I had 5 Canines entrusted to my temporary care that I needed to feed, air and tend to their kennels, Friday Night again was wrought with battling code and database, Saturday Morning I again began the task of beating into submission code and database tables, in between the Morning I again had to tend to 5 Canine units and all that entails, I facilitated and embarked the termination and removal of a dead non-bearing fruit tree, in where the wood of use was transferred to the winter heating supply, while the remainder was translocated to an awaiting brush pile, the termination concluded with me in a tractor removing the remaining stump and integrating it to said brush pile, I then returned within the confines of my cave, to again continue forcing the yield of code and database, to an end that I as normal emerged victorious, with the caveat that there may still be mines laying in wait for ambush, early this evening I again provided care for the 5 canines, I managed to precure a shower in where I ran out of hot water, simply due to the fact it took me that long for my body to cleanse it's self, as I provide you with some rather useless points of my hours spent, I am in fact in pain, I am in fact exhausted, and I am in fact hungry, as both neither time has allowed nor dose my existence to have adequate nutritional uptake, not to mention I still have Sunday to contend with, and any subsequent day that follows thereafter;

  18. Been running Linux for two decades, building homelab clusters for six years. Think that makes me done learning? Nope. Even AI still teaches me useful stuff nearly every day. Get off my lawn, sure — but like any tool, it's neither a weapon nor a toy by itself. Depends who's holding it.

  19. Some of the most horrid sexism I've encountered in music, especially considering Kurt Cobain's strong feminism, has been directed at Courtney Love. So I especially love to tell those fuckers that I think Hole's first two albums are in fact way better, especially lyrically, than Nirvana's best shit.

The plan is to start two new plants every two weeks for as long as the temp holds (which I think will do so all winter long here)

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be going to it this time, as we went food shopping this weekend already.

If you are in the area and fancy trying some local food and crafts, it's all indoors, so it'll be sheltered, even if the weather isn't great!

  23. I was also very impressed with the Hope In The City Demo. It's been on my wishlist for a while.

Don't look at it & think low poly means low quality - it's custom/well art-directed low poly, with very smooth movement, interfaces etc. THe characters are all recognisably different & well designed.

It's 3rd person, allowing for good exploration around the city, with a nice mechanism for discovering objects & 'Thoughts', which can then be combined into 'Insights' or 'Breakthroughs'. These objects & Thoughts can then be presented to NPCs, allowing you to ask all the questions you'd like.

It's also an interesting look at modern China (via Canadian developers with a strong interest in that country), including political commentary on wealth vs city poverty vs rural poverty.

Dan and I biked to Avondale Ale Day for a dubious coffeeneuring. None of the drinks were obvious fall-types, but I think the spirit of coffeeneuring was with us. Hopefully I’ll have enough n+1 outings for it to not matter.

  26. Finished reading "Bicycle / Race: Transportation, Culture & Resistance." I knew racism existed everywhere, but seeing it deeply embedded in bicycle safety advocacy hit me hard.
I tend to focus on physical infrastructure myself when I think about cycling safety. This book is a reminder that ensuring road safety isn't just about physical protection—it's equally important, or even more, to protect systemically vulnerable populations.

  28. Tomlin describes TJ Watt as an ‘Angry Little Brother’: “T.J. is an angry little brother. He is. I know that because I’m an angry little brother. I think there’s something to being a little brother. Michael Jordan is a little brother. I think you’ll find a lot of people that are great at what they do are little brothers. I go to his Pro Day, and I take him out to dinner the night before his pro day. And I was like, ‘Man, there’s an underlying rage here that is familiar and attractive.” #Steelers #NFL

  29. #WritersCoffeeClub – 25th Oct. Tell us about inspiration from an unlikely source.

Had a weird lucid dream/sleep paralysis (that I still think was real). What occurred during it became the first book in a series I had published way back in 2016.
