  7. We've had some warm temperatures here on the prairies the last couple of days, and it's mostly looking like above-freezing during the day for the foreseeable future [1]. So today I pulled the snow tires off the cars and put the "all-season" [2] ones on.

Please join me tomorrow in celebrating the semi-annual festival of Oh My Gawd Why Are My Knees On Fire And I Didn't Even Know I Had Muscles In That Part Of My Thigh.

[1] To be fair, this is about 5-6 days max. They don't bother to even try forecasting further out than that here.

[2] Really "three-season", if you live anywhere where it gets more than a handful of degrees below freezing.

  8. A while back a former friend (who I unfortunately had to break contact with as he went too far down the rabbithole of #ToxicMasculinity and #addiction) said "getting a #HotHatch at my age wasn't age-appropriate" (he didn't even drive himself or have a licence!), and seemed to think I should pick a "sensible family saloon", or worse, an SUV (I am single and childless!)

Where the fuck are lads getting these daft ideas into their heads? That whole #tradmasc lifestyle seems completely miserable if you can't even enjoy a decent #car in your #MiddleAge because of bullshit generational #stereotypes

  9. Middle age is when you've met so many people that every new person you meet reminds you of someone else.

  10. Embrace Graceful Aging: Practices for Inner Wisdom

Embracing graceful aging is a path open to each of us on our journey through our particular life experiences. Presence in our bodies and minds allows deep wisdom to be slowly revealed. Join me on this journey to touch the sacred wisdom of our aging forms, ever present within.

As we navigate through the journey of life, it is not uncommon to perceive that our physical bodies may not be keeping pace with our inner aspirations. We might notice the etchings of time in the form of wrinkles, the occasional ache, and a slower, sometimes overwhelming rhythm. However, instead of harboring fear towards the inevitable process of aging, we can choose to embrace it as a profound opportunity for inner exploration and self-reflection.

We may not have control over the passage of time itself, but we do possess the power to consciously influence our experience of the aging process. One way to enhance this journey is through the adoption of various practices that foster a deeper connection between the mind, body, and spirit.

    Graceful Aging Through Mindfulness Practices

Meditation, for instance, allows us to cultivate a sense of calmness and clarity amidst the chaos of daily life. By dedicating a few moments of each day to quiet contemplation, we can access a tranquil space within ourselves, where worries fade and tranquility flourishes. Visualization techniques enable us to harness the immense power of our imagination, creating a vivid mental landscape that nurtures positivity and aids in envisioning our desired outcomes.

In conjunction with meditation and visualization, positive affirmations serve as transformative tools that help rewire our brains and shape our thoughts. By replacing self-limiting beliefs with empowering and uplifting statements, we can foster a profound sense of self-compassion and cultivate a mindset that is conducive to overall well-being.

Surprisingly, these practices not only impact our mental and emotional well-being but can also positively influence our physical health as well. Scientific research suggests that practices such as meditation and visualization have the potential to affect our bodily functions by boosting the immune system, reducing stress-related ailments, and even alleviating chronic pain.

    The Wisdom of Aging Gracefully

As we journey through life, we can embrace the incredible wisdom that accompanies the natural progression of time. By incorporating practices such as meditation, visualization, and positive affirmations into our daily routines, we can foster a harmonious and balanced existence where the mind, body, and spirit intertwine, creating a life of purpose, fulfillment, and grace.

Remember, the process of aging gracefully is not about defying the natural order of life but rather about embracing it with open arms, cherishing each moment, and embarking on a transformative journey of self-discovery and growth. So, as we traverse the path of life, let us do so with grace, gratitude, and an unwavering commitment to living a life of profound authenticity and purpose.

Allow the beautiful interconnectedness of our existence to unfold as we cultivate a profound sense of awareness towards the timeless essence that resides within us. In this four-day series on Aging Gracefully, we shall embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-compassion, embracing the process of aging with grace and empathy. Together, let us explore the wisdom and beauty that comes with the passage of time, as we nourish our souls and nurture our inner selves.

    What You Will Learn

    Embracing Change

Over the upcoming four days, our focus will be on delving into the concept of aging as a privilege, exploring the various aspects of well-being as we grow older, reflecting on the practice of gratitude, and learning to embrace the inevitability of change

    Exploring Timelessness

We will explore the depths of our inner selves, embracing the unique and timeless essence that resides within each of us. By doing so, we aim to nurture and cultivate a heightened sense of present-moment awareness, allowing us to fully engage with the richness of the world around us and the experiences that unfold within it.

    Deepening Practice

We will explore Somatic Experiencing to deepen our mind-body connection and cultivate a greater awareness of our inner selves. Through this practice, we aim to embrace each day as it comes, fostering a sense of presence and resilience in the face of life’s challenges.

By delving into the nuances of somatic awareness, timelessness, and gratitude, we cultivate a deep connection with our physical and emotional experiences. Through these practices, we seek to develop a more profound understanding of ourselves and our reactions, allowing for a more authentic and grounded experience of everyday life.

  11. I'm both impressed and slightly unnerved with how quickly I got used to the extra power of the #VW #GolfGTI - within a week of getting it it felt to some extent like "an ordinary #car" from inside during normal driving (unless I put my foot down, when the performance becomes immediately obvious. I suspect this is also why it has the #Soundaktor with artificial engine noise..)

I'm glad I only started #driving in #middleage - as I'm not so tempted to be leadfooted, being aware of the consequences, both #roadsafety related and the #law (#speedlimits are enforced strictly here with #ANPR #cameras, with #fines for more egregious offences proportional to income), but I can see how #carCulture encourages young lads to go faster than they should (sometimes with unfortunate results)

  12. A quotation from Thoreau

The youth gets together his materials to build a bridge to the moon, or perchance a palace or temple on the earth, and at length the middle-aged man concludes to build a woodshed of them.

  13. You know you’re old when your wife asks you if you have any interest in going to bed and just sitting up reading for a little while before nodding off for the night…

    And it’s not even 8:00pm yet…

And you are absolutely interested. Absolutely.
