  1. Seems like we're starting to get into summer in #Austin -- school's out, sure, and we've also got warmer and muggier weather. But still just fine for biking!

So the younger kid and I biked for breakfast tacos and then to the park to play some basketball.
He went off to find some friends, so I went out on the bike again -- this time a nice lazy meandering bike ride around town.
Stopped by the pond in Mueller and read for a while (lots of ducks and grackles!).
Stopped again for coffee and a pastry (I guess that makes it a #coffeeneuring ride?).
    Stopped at a sculpture park.
Stopped one more time to chat with some Engineers Without Borders folks having a bake sale on the wishbone bridge (hadn't heard of this, but sounds interesting .. ewbgreateraustin.org ).
    Saw some turtles.

  2. Moin,

  3. This arrived. No motor on my bike, but I'll give it a go anyway. Should make coffeeneuring a bit less random, should I ever attempt it.

  4. @meganL #MotorNormativity for people talking about transport policy and #CarBrain .

#UrbanCycling for cycling in towns and cities, usually for transport purposes.

#CyclingUK for cycling in the UK (and presumably for what was previously the CTC).

#Coffeeneuring for folks who #AlwaysBeCoffeeneuring or who are taking part in the annual challenge (ride a bike 7 times at least 2 miles and have a beverage).

Have also seen #SustainableTransport , although that's not cycling specific.

  5. Keeping the @coffeeneuring group thread active with my monthly post. Since the time change last weekend, our weekly 7am commuter ride gives us a glorious sunrise.

  6. Mapped out a route for a group ride next Sunday this afternoon. One reason I always ride every part of a route before taking others on it: Nashville is basically all hills and so what looks like a cute little side detour could be a brutal slog up a bizarrely steep hill. The views were great! But not something I want to lead others on. Did a bit of #coffeeneuring on the way. #BikeTooter

  7. @geonz @ascentale @InkySchwartz @bikenite the annual #coffeeneuring challenge is much fun, big thumbs up to chasingmailboxes for organising it each year

  8. Had to go out to the (ugh) AT&T store to get a SIM card for the teen’s new phone. As we pulled up, @timcoffman suggested I just keep biking rather than waiting. So I did and had a nice ride. Then we decided to try out a newish Swahili-inspired coffee shop, which was great. #BikeTooter #coffeeneuring

  9. A round up blog post for this year's #coffeeneuring challenge.

Six lattes, one chai, seven different coffee shops, five new-to-me coffee shops, several croissants, no rain, 141.3km of bike riding and seven hand drawn maps.

  10. My instance went down for a hardware replacement. So I took the opportunity for a break in doom scrolling, to take a mug of tea for a ride, and complete my last #Coffeeneuring ride for this year. Also swapped to a better pair of cycling gloves, resulting in nice warm hands today.

  11. Coffeeneuring 7 of 7. Today we stopped for a morning a coffee on our way to see friends who live on the outskirts of the city. Because it would be a longer (and steeper) ride than our otherwise coffeeneurs my partner opted for her touring bike with its extra gears. I stubbornly (foolishly?) stuck to my city bike.

  12. Moin,
    still freezing cold in northern #Germany #SchleswigHolstein (27,5 F/-2,5 ° C)
Today I brought my own #coffee and a selfmade vegan spelt-blueberry muffin and had a #Sunday break at the iceblue frozen pond at the nature reserve for my final #coffeeneuring no 7
I really love this place in #Winter, especially, since artic winter birds can be seen here.
Distance was limited to only 15,72 miles (25,3 km) though due to frozen feets ;-)

  13. Seventh (& last) #coffeeneuring ride of the season took an outbound route down a boring main road to a new(ish) coffee shop belonging to a small chain. I’ve only been in one branch before which wasn’t great, this was perfectly nice and I would go back.

To get home I decided to take the slightly longer route through the country lanes, not too many close passing speedy drivers today but also nothing really interesting to see.

Then I find the level crossing gates down and lights flashing. Always exciting! I realise there are more pedestrians waiting than I’d expect. A family with a toddler and a couple of old blokes, one of them has a camera with a long lens and everyone else has their phone camera ready.

I ask if we’re expecting something special. Yep, it’s a steam train! 🚂 That rather overshadows anything else I might have seen today.

I go home and look it up and find it is the LMS Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 4871 and tell my partner about it. Oh, a Black 5, he says, the last steam trains that ran on British Rail in 1968, and produces a model of the very last one, a sibling of the one I saw.

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LMS_Stan

Anyway, I find it’s going back later in the afternoon and we walked up to a better vantage point on a bridge near home to watch it go past and envelope us in clouds of steam. I’ll put the video in a reply.

So what I thought was going to be a pretty boring ride turned out to be unexpectedly exciting!

  14. @ascentale @bikenite #BikeNite A8. Hanging out for the unusually cold & grey november to get back to the near-summer as expected

Called in for a #coffeeneuring #coffee on a little detour on my commute on monday

  15. Moin,
    freezing cold today 26,6 F (-3° C), so I decided, I deserve to get a #coffee for #coffeeneuring no 6
Stopped by at the farmers market and also bought some curly kale (green cabbage) which is a very popular vegetable during #winter here in nothern #Germany #SchleswigHolstein.
Well, it wasn't a long ride, just 10,66 miles (17,15 km), but really enjoyed the cristal cold air and the heated gloves did their job.
