I try not to post much Van Gogh or Monet because they're so well known and ubiquitous. But this I didn't realize was Van Gogh, although it didn't surprise me. He did amazing things with dark and light and shapes and strokes that I can see but couldn't reproduce. To me, there's something really natural about it, messy in the way that life is messy? idk I think it's amazing

putting this up because I'm reading "A Question of Re-entry" by J. G. Ballard right now in my Ballard short story collection. It caught my eye flipping through my folder.
I think the cover looks more like a Philip K. Dick story. I've read a few of his that are heavy on androids and what it means to be human. The eyeless face seems like it was part of the human skin worn by the robot, and it looks like it's screaming, maybe something cool about how our humanity is terrified of the androids we've become, something like that. Or the reverse, the androids are terrified of humans, it's taking off the suit because it doesn't want to be mistaken for one of us. haha

I bet people called him Mel. I love this. Taken literally, nearby, a flying or jumping tortoise, we are low to the ground looking up at it, or in the distance, the true form of God, or a god, above the city. Or figuratively maybe some kind of commentary on this place or time or something idk. I think it's rad.
It could be that the artist painted a city and a tortoise on the same piece of paper for practice, but he made something magic nonetheless 😁 ❤️

Seems to be a popular Soviet Era children's book. The bear got the Sun back from the crocodile. I liked the image without knowing the source because I think we all have a crocodile brain and a bear brain behind our human brain. And a Sun brain. I love this one, I may have posted it before, when I hadn't worked out my filing system yet. It looks to me like a bird with its wings at its side, shooting straight toward us, and its relative below brings like a sentience into the scene. There is an outline around it that looks a little like a cartoon cat? .. and without anything else to go on I'm taking that as part of these Dark Gods' stories, their counterpart, maybe their target or their victory. They have found the life beyond the Death represented by their natural predator? I'm spitballing, idk love this

I'm reading a book of short stories by J.G. Ballard and I read one last night that I really liked. A scientist that was slowly succumbing to a disease basically did some science magic to himself to activate secret mutations and he developed the sense ability to see and hear time and the stars and the ultimate source of the universe. Really enjoying the author's work, highly recommend.
