  2. Thanks, #cloudflare, for the notification that users must immediately upgrade all #cloudflared instances (#brotli?). Except you didn't provide updates for all platforms or coordinate with the open-source distros that ship it as a package, like #Fedora and #FreeBSD.

(update; this seems to be #eMudhra related).

  4. RE: mastodon.social/@FirefoxOffici

I just left Firefox after over 20 years because of all the shit Mozilla has been shoveling into the browser in the last few years.

Maybe listen to your users, but what do I know.

  5. RIP Walter Koenig

  6. Seeing people weirdly are saying “Apple products have always been bad quality and not durable” and no, that’s absolutely not the case.

Amongst many other things I’ve an Apple computer literally from the 1970s and it still works fine (everything is factory).

  8. Because Roose has repeatedly shown himself to have the critical thinking skills of a golden retriever puppy, and I have higher standards for myself.

(There's a reasonable amount of pushback in this interview, given that the interviewer is clearly personally friendly with the subject, but I still think it's criminal to talk to Roose about anything and not ask why we should take him seriously after his stances on NFTs and crypto in the paper of record.)

  11. Good morning to everyone except Reflect Orbital.

  12. #26 Lust for a Vampire (1971)

Generally considered the worst of the Karnstein trilogy (quadrilogy, considering there's a throwaway line in Captain Kronos?), although I think Hammer fans generally overstate the quality of its median output--e.g., this is not a better film than, say, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, but I don't think it's categorically worse, either.

  14. I'm finally reading John H. Zammito's "A Nice Derangement of Epistemes Post-Positivism in the Study of Science from Quine to Latour"

When talking about theories of the social I'm personally skeptical of Laudan and Leplin's statement.

A fine book, by the way.

  17. I disabled KDE's notification widget on my primary monitor (and set them to "do not disturb" on the secondary) last month, and it's been a notable improvement in my experience. Notifications on desktop are a scourge, make the computer work on your schedule instead of the reverse.

  23. #25 Rabid (1977)

I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of Cronenberg, especially the later era, but The Brood and Videodrome are two of my favorites. Even by those standards, this one is weird: an experimental skin graft causes a woman to develop a vampire armpit stinger that infects victims with super-rabies. I can't find anything that says Cronenberg was inspired by Typhoid Mary, but there's a lot of her story in Marilyn Chambers' unsettling performance, as she alternates between instinctive predation and blank innocence.
