During this period Jerusalem was heavily "Islamised" to enhance its Muslim character at the expense of Jews and Christians.

Durante siglos, además, hubo dudas sobre si Pilato había existido realmente o si era una figura literaria de los Evangelios.
Ese debate terminó en 1961 cuando arqueólogos encontraron en Cesarea Marítima una inscripción conocida como la “Piedra de Pilato”, donde aparece su nombre y su título oficial como prefecto de Judea.
Fue una confirmación histórica rotunda.Pero lo más sorprendente llega con algunas tradiciones cristianas orientales.
En la Iglesia Ortodoxa Etíope ocurre algo que desconcierta a muchos: Pilato y su esposa son considerados santos.
Sí, el mismo hombre que ordenó la crucifixión de Jesús.La razón está en textos apócrifos como el Paradosis Pilati.
Según esta tradición, Pilato terminó arrepintiéndose profundamente y se convirtió al cristianismo después de la resurrección.
Incluso habría defendido la inocencia de Jesús ante Roma.En ese contexto aparece un documento muy curioso: la llamada Anaphora Pilati o “Informe de Pilato”.
Aunque los historiadores lo consideran apócrifo, el texto describe una carta enviada al emperador Tiberio.
En ella, Pilato relata los milagros de Jesús: ciegos que recuperan la vista, leprosos curados, paralíticos que vuelven a caminar e incluso muertos que regresan a la vida.En ese mismo informe Pilato asegura que durante el juicio no encontró ninguna culpa real en Jesús y acusa directamente a los líderes religiosos de Jerusalén de presionarlo para que dictara la sentencia.
El relato se vuelve todavía más dramático cuando describe fenómenos sobrenaturales durante la crucifixión: el sol oscureciéndose al mediodía, la tierra temblando y muertos levantándose de sus tumbas y caminando por Jerusalén.
También menciona el momento de la resurrección.
Según esa versión, los soldados romanos que custodiaban la tumba quedaron paralizados de terror al ver a los ángeles y descubrir que el cuerpo de Jesús ya no estaba allí.Existe incluso otro texto, llamado Mors Pilati (La muerte de Pilato), donde se cuenta que cuando Tiberio leyó el informe se enfureció tanto por la ejecución de un hombre milagroso que ordenó traer a Pilato a Roma para castigarlo.
Pero las leyendas medievales fueron todavía más lejos.
Una de las más inquietantes habla del destino de su cadáver.Según esta tradición, tras su muerte en Roma su cuerpo fue arrojado al Río Tíber.
El problema, dicen las crónicas, es que comenzaron a ocurrir cosas extrañas: tormentas violentas, inundaciones y aguas que parecían hervir.
Los romanos, aterrados, decidieron sacar el cuerpo del río.Entonces lo trasladaron a Vienne y lo arrojaron al Ródano.
Pero la historia volvió a repetirse: tormentas, remolinos y fenómenos extraños que los habitantes interpretaron como señales demoníacas.Finalmente decidieron llevar el cadáver a los Alpes y arrojarlo a un lago oscuro en una montaña cercana a Lucerna.
Desde entonces esa montaña se conoce como Monte Pilatus.La leyenda dice que el espíritu de Pilato solo descansaba un día al año: el Viernes Santo.
Ese día su sombra emergía del lago, se sentaba en un trono de piedra y repetía eternamente el gesto de lavarse las manos.Durante siglos el miedo fue tan real que las autoridades de Lucerna prohibieron subir a la montaña.
Creían que si alguien perturbaba el lago, el espíritu del antiguo prefecto despertaría y provocaría tormentas devastadoras.Entre historia, religión y mito, Poncio Pilato sigue siendo uno de los personajes más ambiguos de la Antigüedad.
Para algunos es el símbolo de la cobardía.
Para otros, un gobernador romano atrapado en una situación imposible.
Y para una pequeña tradición cristiana… incluso un santo arrepentido.Un destino curioso para el hombre que, según la historia, intentó quitarse la culpa simplemente lavándose las manos.
